We started with Discovery K12 but left after about a week. I noticed that the English assignment was almost exactly the same every day. So I started looking at the entire year. There were 3 assignments circulated for the entire year. 1. Write about something you read today. 2. Create a presentation about a topic of your choice. 3. I honestly can’t remember what the 3rd assignment was. I had signed up for the parent account too. If you cancel within 14 days you can ask for a refund.

What about Acellus ? And foster Penn high school? Bright spire ? , watching your videos it’s very helpful , pulling my son from public school to homeschool online school in February.

These that you mention are online virtual schools which is a little different from an online homeschooling program. I have a video on my channel that explains the difference. Acellus is the same as Power Homeschool except more expensive for the accredited, virtual school version. Hope this helps!

So what does it mean when you say the courses are credited but it is not accredited as a school. We are embarking on our high school journey next year and I know that’s when we have to start keeping transcripts. So I wondering what does that mean for me as the parent. Thank you.

Only a school can be accredited. I apologize if I misspoke in the video. But an accredited school can create and sell a curriculum, and they will say it's "accredited" but what they really mean is the curriculum comes from a school that is accredited. You do not need this in order to homeschool. Just keep good transcripts. The ONLY time you might want to make sure you're using an accredited school is if there's a chance your child may change their mind and want to switch to high school after 9th grade. That can be difficult because a high school may not recognize homeschool credits. But colleges will, so if you're planning to homeschool all through high school you should be good.

Pick one with more customization so you can skip over material your child already knows. So NOT power homeschool. Most of the others should be fine!

*Power Homeschool Just an update... You can skip around in any class you want IF you go into Tutor mode instead of the regular Teacher mode

I really like your overview, but I'm puzzled that you say material being Christian is a possible drawback, but you never mention that a curriculum being Secular is also a possible drawback - for a different set of people.

Allow me to explain! I myself am a Catholic. But in my family, I choose curriculum based on how well I feel it will work to meet our goals for education. If it talks about God and the Bible, that's fine, if not, that's ok too, because we can teach our faith outside of our regular curriculum, attend church, Sunday school, etc. However, for a non-religious person, it would be troubling to purchase a curriculum for, let's say, penmanship, and then it's having you practice handwriting with Bible passages. I hope that makes sense. I do understand that a lot of Christian families are looking for curriculum with a Biblical world view - so for those families I guess certain secular curriculums might not good choices. Hope that makes sense!

@@AmandaMelrose Thank you for the reply - that makes sense. As a Christian, I do use both secular and Christian materials. But, I'm acutely aware that secular curriculum often contains materials that are antagonistic to my faith (as in the case of a secular virtual biology lab my daughter took in which an embryo was "discarded"). I'll use either depending on our needs, but I see "secular" as a definite "con." Thanks so much for the reply - I'm really enjoying your reviews : )

Absolutely, but as it is right now, many of these programs just happen to be christian. Not all of them though!
