We finally reached the end of the series but don't be sad because what I planned for this episode is extra special! Yep you saw the thumbnail... That's a real orchestra playing, not just a picture and we are going to bring it to a close by writing a full piece based on our usual theme. The orchestration techniques featured in the grand finale will be a mix of some of your all time favourites and brand new stuff as well.

Brilliant Mattia is all I can say. Your composition and the way you explain things is so great. I like how you just casually say ah yes the harp made a mistake there but thats ok its no big deal. You always look so relaxed when doing your video's which make them so easy to watch and learn. Thankyou for providing us with so much material to learn from. The orchestra sounds incredible playing your composition.

It is really fascinating to hear your observations about the subtleties that differentiate the orchestra from our beloved libraries. What an incredible learning experience. This is truly such a wonderful resource Mattia. I'm so happy you got to have your score played live. That's one day my dream. Can't wait to watch the second part now. I have a small request. Can you please do videos on the music theory part of it. How do you come up with some cinematic chord progressions and modulations? Would love to see your approach on this and maybe some tutorials to go beyond just diatonic chords 😅

@@MattiaChiappa - Thank you!! I'm curious, have you gone over your process of transcribing your midi to the final notation?
@MattiaChiappa
@MattiaChiappa 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t the process is simple though. After a clean export of the midi into Sibelius, I’ve added all the articulations and details that were necessary, formatted, proff read and then made the parts. It’s a very laborious process and it takes forever, particularly when the music is complex like this. The only thing you get from the MIDI is the notes and values which is only 20% of what a good score is. The rest has to be done manually and takes an eternity

Yes, I’ve done everything myself. No I’ve only layered a woodwind run in a spot near the end and some timpani in a couple of places. It sounds exactly the same without tbh, just a tad less focused on those spots

I can’t remember how long it took exactly. Probably about a week maybe 10 days, to compose and make the mock-up. Overall with scores, recording the music, mixing, etc I think it was about a month on and off, doing a couple of other small projects simultaneously. So quite a long time.

Couple of questions about the harp. When inputting midi harp, do you input them manually with the midi piano keyboard? Do you generally use a major or lydian chord? Do you generally go about 2-3 octaves? How do you determine the exact starting and ending notes? What harp library do you use? Thank you!
