Hey folks - I apologize for mispronouncing Verne Gagne's name. I got into wrestling in the late 80's when the AWA was on the decline and was a WWF fan. I've got no excuse for tryst though!

The whole Randy/Stephanie thing comes down to a promo Vampiro cut in WCW. He and The Misfits were building to a feud with Randy, and he called him out and implied that Randy's then manager and real life girl Gorgeous George was too young (she was 25 when she met Randy) and that Randy liked young girls. But Vampiro used her real name Stephanie as was his thing at the time. Over the years people got confused partly because that Stephanie ran off with Doyle from The Misfits and so the Savage Vampiro feud never happened.

The Streak wasn't really 'the streak' until 2002/2003... IIRC Flair's Challenge to Taker for Mania 18 in '02 (eventually becoming #10) was the first time Taker was Challenged for 'The Streak... meaning that Matches 1-9 were booked as per the needs of the story, so it is wholly plausible that any one of those opponents, or potential opponents, would have been cited in conversation as possibly getting the win

When Bruno Samartino held the world title for so many years it seemed to mean something, but now you hear of these young wrestlers that have been world champion 5 times, or one I heard on YT, a wrestler who had been tag team champion 22 times. It seems to have lost any value when people hold a title for just a few days. But at least everyone gets to be champion.

Yeah, the titles have all been largely devalued, when you have guys who have been World Champion 10 or 20 times.

Yeah, whatever the plan might have been for Diesel-Taker at WM12, one thing is for sure: The word "streak" would never have come up, considering it took nearly another 10 years for the company to even mention it. The streak might have existed on paper, but The Streak was not even close to being a thing at that time (which is probably why Diesel was even considered for the win... he'd already been pushed so hard that a "win for the ages" would have been a wasted booking.)

I stopped watching after the montreal screwjob bit. There's no doubt whatsoever that that was a work. All it takes is actually going back and watching the bret hart story arc leading up to that event (it's literally a year of "being screwed" and being mad at vince) to see how obvious it is that it was a work.
@schooljackson6 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the "documentary" that had unprecedented access, fed right into the story line and literally aired just before the PPV. If that's not enough, If it was a shoot, How is it the camera just happened to catch spitting in the bosses face. Also for the people saying things like Brett wouldn't lie and such. Brett is old school and has worked with some of the best including the "King" of a work people thought was a shoot, Jerry Lawler.
@14yeartwitch144 жыл бұрын
Vince took one hell of a martyr's shot in his office after the fact. If it was a work, HBK did his best acting in that moment after the match when Bret confronted him, that was the most intense "real" locker room tension I've ever seen, and then when Bret's wife called HBK and HHH out right there pointing her finger in their face? I hadn't seen anything that convincing in WWF/E up to that point, nor since. They threw Kayfabe to the wind if that was a work (ironic) at a time that Vince was still HUGE on keeping Kayfabe intact.

Since the PG crap started, I have not even watch their programs anymore except checking out some highlights every now and then at youtube. They should also develop and groom a young talent and see if they can build another major star on the level like the likes of Austin, Rock or Triple H. Pretty dumb as he was getting over geniunely with the crowd unlike some guys which the company pushes to the moon with no success.
