tbh adansonii is one of the plants where I like the green one more. I agree with you on most of this list. I do think pink princess should've been on this list, haha it is stupidly overhyped, and like the dishwater variegation you mentioned, I think most pink princesses have a dirty or muddy look to them and for the price they're going for right now, I'd rather wait. 1. Paraiso Verde: I agree, I've never liked the variegation (sure, there's a couple leaves where I"m like ooh, nice) but for the most part not worth spending the money for and harder to take care of than jose buono or giganteum variegata which are much prettier in my opinion. 2. Caramel Marble: It's a lovely plant but yes so overpriced and if we were to base it on that, I prefer the golden dragon variegata 3. Strawberry Shake: Yep, juvenile leaves are ugly AF and unfortunately that's the only way you're gonna get a hold of these plants in auctions and sales right now, as small 1-2 leaf cuttings, and apparently it's really slow to grow and root too, so not worth my while 4. Adansonii Variegata: I love this plant, yes it is overpriced and there's a lot in circulation in Europe (don't think so as much anywhere else in the world), but that is due to certain people hoarding on a certain plant shop's restock of them selectively, and those private sellers growing and propagating and trying to make 1-2k on a 1-2 leaf cutting, and that's how it's become a lot more prevalent in UK/EU. Hopefully will go down in price in time. 5. Mint anything: I love mint too but nothing is ever truly mint, and it's honestly down to an individual plant's genetics that, as you said, may push a minty looking leaf every now and again under certain conditions, but it isn't stable. Also the adansonii mint is an Indonesian form I'm pretty sure, and it sells for like $15 there but is going for over $1,000 anywhere else in the world, which makes me suss if it is natural or a virus. 6. Strawberry Ice: there are so many prettier syngoniums as you said. This one just looks like baby's vomit to me, end of. Haha! 7. Ace of Spades: love this plant too but not the price and glad to hear it was in TC so hopefully prices will come down to like EU clarinervium levels in a few years! 8. Black Cardinal Variegata: Haven't seen many of these for sale in EU, not my cup of tea, but I remember seeing a whole batch of variegated philodendron in Asia all being listed over the four-figure mark easily (black cardinal, imperial green variegata etc...) 9. Variegated Tetrasperma: The price of these is shocking, I'd rather get a Spiritus Sancti, thanks! Haha! Hopefully this will also be TC on Thai Constellation levels in the next few years and become more accessible. 10. Cream Splash: There's so many variations of this that I can't keep up now (there's a stripe one too), honestly I prefer my plain old brasil. I would love a big bushy cream splash, but never see any for sale and would hate to see what they go for if a 1-2 leaf cutting sells for about $60.

Hot take: All variegated plants are over hyped and are not as pretty as their non-variegated counter part.
@TrungTran-yg3uv4 жыл бұрын
Eeeeeh I'd disagree. This is not a houseplant, but Physostegia virginiana 'variegata', besides the variegated foliage, has pale pink flowers as opposed to the species plant's bubblegum pink, and it's a lot less blocky when massed. There are plenty of other examples too: Salix intergra 'hakuro nishiki', Aspidistra elatior 'variegata', or Cornus alternifolia 'argentea'.
@nadeeyaakira3 жыл бұрын
Depends on the plant. I have variegated a. macrorrhiza and i think its as beautiful as the non-variegated. I do agree that variegated plants prone to revert as I'm struggling with the variegation intensity that decreased. And yes variegated adansonii is ugly lol *sorry for my bad english

I agree with most of these... And it's funny seeing them on purges often and the prices they go for. I can't wait for a syngonium rare plant index and for var. Adasonii to come down. It's still a unicorn for me 🥺

Hi! I totally agree with your list! Would totally love to see a vid on plants you regret buying. Thanks for all the great content💚
I love these sort of vids from you! I would love a "regret" video! 😊

I love my crea splash philo, but I got it as an 6" full pot for $30usd so definitely not complaining! 💛 I wouldn't have spend more than that on it for sure.

Love this video! I remember how I felt when I first got the plant bug 🤪 It’s good to remind people that a lot of this is super over hype-d, right now

Every time I go on Facebook I see someone trying to sell a "variegated" tetrasperma and it's literally 1/4 of the leaf that looks slightly lighter, and it's obviously just a sport mutation on otherwise totally green plants! Gets me so frustrated xD Agree with you on the whole video!

Someone needs to tell the truth! Just really great content. Looking forward to hear about the plants you think that’s worth the hype 👍

I'm so glad you think some of these "splashes" or "shakes" just look muddled! I always felt like I was the only one while others had these on their wish lists! You like what ya like, but there's so many gorgeous variegated plants out there! Varigated Rhaphidora Tetrasperma and varigated Monstera Peru's really are so pretty, but man...the prices lol 😳

Totally agree with you, especially on the paradiso. Bought one, reverted immediately 🤦🏻♀️. (Maybe it was a sign of 2020!) Plants I regret I would love a video on that and maybe if you can, plants I killed?! Surely you have a story or two to tell us so we don't all feel like terrible plant parents! 🙏
@fantail72144 жыл бұрын
Totally agree! IMO plants over hyped here in NZ, string of turtles, hoya Indian rope and now veragated monstera all have ridiculous prices paid for them. Like you say; just wait until T.C'd and the market is flooded and the price will plummet. Someone paid 5k for a hoya and 6.5k for monstera
@sarahvillasenor85144 жыл бұрын
I pretty much agree with everything! I got my 6 in pot of cream splash for $18 back in February and I’ve been able to trade it for several cool plants since then because it suddenly became super sought after! But I would never pay the prices it’s going for now
@Fire-Queen2 жыл бұрын
Uh oh... Dare I ask around to what the price is now? 🤷🏻♀️🙈😂 I bought two small ones last year... I liked how my Brasil cutting was growing and liked the creamer version as well!

I honesty think Syngonium pink ice is really pretty but it’s not an “omg wishlist plant” or anything. I like the combination of colours and that the leaves are all different and think a mature climbing one would look awesome! No idea how much it costs, I’d pay $20 for a small one or $100 for a big healthy one. Not gonna go looking for one but would trade for it/buy it for an ok price if i come across it. Thank you so much for the info on Ace of Spades TC, I will totally wait for that 🖤 Wish I knew about them a few years ago but I was a poor uni student back then with no money to spend on fancy plants. 100% agree about variegated RT and adansonii, I actually prefer the plain green ones of those. I just think variegation looks cooler on bigger leafed plants like the good ole deliciosa. I have several of those and they completely satisfy my desire for “variegated versions of popular tropical plants” lol.
@natleaver4 жыл бұрын
LOL Adansonii (non-variagated) are literally weeds where I live. A house up the street from me has a huge bush of them popping out the front. I live in Costa Rica and I'm fascinated about how tropical plants sell for such high prices overseas.

Fab video, I totally agree with you on all of them but the parisdo verde! I think ‘plants I regret buying in’ would be so interesting! :)
@deborahoverton46253 жыл бұрын
Admittedly, I'm no plant expert in Indiana, USA, but I've never heard of most of these plants and would never pay over $ 50 for a plant unless it cured cancer. Enjoyed your video. Thanks since I'm not going out now.

Well said!! I totally agree with you👏🏼👏🏼 I'm not a huge fan of variegated plants in general and I have time, I can wait until their price drop.

I totally feel you on the philo. Cream splash, brasil and silver stripe are way to similar for me to really care. But I do really want a philo gabby!!!

I own the philo brasil, cream splash, silver stripe and rio, and love them all haha. They're just all a tiny bit different from each other, but all beautiful. And they also earn me a little bit of money which is a lovely bonus.

@jake66814 жыл бұрын
I feel like the variegated adansonii has become like a Borsigniana Albo or an Obliqua in that they’re for sale EVERYWHERE and aren’t unicorns anymore but are at the same time HIGHLY sought after so the prices don’t drop and sometimes even go up in price.
@dagmarbelesova42844 жыл бұрын
I love that you speak your mind in these videos and agree with all of these. People get a bit crazy about variegation I think - the original black cardinal looks much better than the variegated version.
