Actually it’s called Philodendron Dean McDowell, in memory of a very good friend of the person who crossed two species and produced this hybrid. I think that should be mentioned, cause he said it’s important for him to tell the whole name of the plant ☺️
@you_gullible_fucc Жыл бұрын
Even though I'm not a fan of crawlers I would like to get a Dean McDowell someday because of this information. I heard it was named after the hybridizer's friend who died of AIDS. I don't know if Dean McDowell is queer or not but given the horrible history of ADS and the lives that it took, I feel like it's all the more important to remember those people like Dean who must've meant so much to John Banta (the hybridizer).

This is a fantastic series and I'm so glad you are tackling it. I'm not a beginner per se, but I do proceed with extreme caution when I decide to spend my money on plants. I got into plants in 2019 after suffering through my 3rd miscarriage. The plants really helped with the healing process and I went from zero plants and thinking I had a black thumb, to 65 indoor plants, plus a massive outdoor food and flower garden. Turns out I have quite the understanding of the needs and wants of most plants (except pothos, honestly they hate me). Despite my experience, I still hesitate before purchasing a plant because I don't want to throw my money out of the window. I always find these lists helpful, but when you do them you always provide an angle I don't often see in other similar themed videos. Helps me feel like I'm making a more informed purchase.

Yes, please do an anthurium one next! In terms of philo, I stay away from verrucosum at all costs haha, even though all the different forms are so pretty! But literally, any change in conditions and they kick up a fuss straight away. Some other philos I've found easy are gigas (definitely over juvenile melano) and ushanum which grows like a weed and seems to thrive on neglect haha

Absolutely stunned to hear your take on domesticum variegata. I took two cuttings from mine and put them in Sphagnum moss. They had long and strong roots in less than two weeks. The butt cut of the plant is also pushing out new growth from two different areas. However, I got my plant for an absolute bargain because the seller thought it was reverting and wasn’t sure if cutting it back would bring back the variegation. Time will tell.

I love that the Pink Princess & Verrucosum were both part of the "wrong for you" category. I'm over a year into my plant mama life and I'm only now considering a Pink Princess because I know I'll have the patience and additional knowledge I need to care for it. The Verrucosum is a different story. I got one when I was only just getting on a roll plant-wise because I thought the leaves were gorgeous. What a mistake. It has lost all it's leaves twice since I got it and the 2 it has now are small and dinky. I was definitely not prepared to care for it. Even now I have huge confidence issues taking care of it cause I'm always second guessing myself. ai-ai-ai.

Hee Kaylee, I've been a fan of your video's for quite some time. You bring information that is sometimes difficult to find ! I'm sending a message with a plea for the Ph. Erubescens (pink princess). I think this plant is even stunning without it's pink variegation. The leaf shape on bigger leaves, with the clear red edge and the way the new leaves come in all burgundy before turning green is just stunning to me, as are the deep reddish brown stems. I also like that it grows architecturaly without looking leggy. The fact that it's not a cultivar, that erubescens is found in the wild with and without the variegation is nice too I think. With this plant I consider the variegation as a surprise, sth that will happen (if you have a plant with variegation to start from, that is) only you don't know when. It can get obsessive the variegation seeking, to the point where it's no longer healthy for the plants.
@Charline-Venefica3 жыл бұрын
I own a verucosum, (one with red under the leaves) climbing issue was solved by tying it to the pole with soft elastics. Never had any pest issue yet -it's been year-. It seems to be affected by excessive airflow tough. But I really don't regret having one .

Loved this video. I don’t think I ever heard you speak of the Thai Sunrise. I have one and noticed recently that I’m getting mote lime leaves than variegated. Now I know why. Also, anyone in the comment section that has any recommendations on my melanochrysum, I’d love feedback. It is TEENY TINY and I have it now in a terrarium on a pole in 98% humidity and still nothing!

Can you do a video on what plants do(n't) do well in self watering pots?

great video thank you! wondering what led you to believe that's a McDowell rather then Pastazanum? I have a couple that look exactly the same that I always thought were pastas.

I talk to my plants in a low-deep masculine voice... gently. It brings out the Pink in all my plants real well.... tip for the day :) Bless.
