Since I am from the area, I don't consider myself a "tourist" but I moved away 20 years ago. My last trip back was the first time I actually stayed in Chinatown. I highly recommend it to any traveler to NYC. The hotels there are small and compact and when you walk outside, you are immediately in the thick of things. I will say the best time to walk out is early morning as you will see the older generation of Chinatown residents exercising and walking about. It is pretty inspirational as they are in great shape. Most of the streets are tight and small. It is so close to Soho and Little Italy (beware of the hard selling people at the Little Italy restaurants, who will basically drag you into them as you walk by. It is a very competitive business...) that you can stay a week and still not see and experience everything in the area. I still love NYC, top to bottom, warts and all. Great video, Sarah!

Thank you. I love the exuberance you have for your city. I’ll be visiting NYC for a 7th time in early December with a sister and a friend. Both Top of the Rock and the Summit are on my list. I love the Highline. I visited the Empire State Bldg 3-4 times and experienced the top of One World Trade Center five months before 9/11. I remember feeling the building sway and looking across at Two WTC and watching it sway. I also got a great photo of the WTC towers from the Hudson River while doing a tour around Statue of Liberty in 2001.

Were you in Brooklyn Heights at the beginning? I grew up there and visitors might like to spend some time there before walking over the Brooklyn Bridge. The Promenade and Brooklyn Bridge Park have postcard views of the Lower Manhattan skyline. It's quite historic and one of the best preserved neighborhoods in the city. The Transit Museum occupies an abandoned subway station in the neighborhood and has several retired subway cars.

I don’t think you need to visit Statue of Liberty. Fine to take a boat past it. Little Italy has been so encroached on by Chinatown, it’s really a shame. I would put the NYC Public Library Rose Reading Room on the list.
@saulschlapik68183 ай бұрын
It's true that there's very little left of Little Italy. It's just 3 blocks of Mulberry St. with restaurants and souvenir stores mainly catering to tourists. If you go one block, especially east, on the cross streets, you're in Chinatown. On the other hand, Chinatown is well worth a visit, the food is the among the best in the country. There are also other Chinatowns in the outer boroughs; like Flushing, Queens and Sunset Park, Brooklyn. You're right about the Statue of Liberty, it's not worth the wait. You get a good view of it for free from the Staten Island Ferry.
