Genuine question: If laying on your back during pregnancy could potentially make the mom feel bad, then why are Americans told to give birth on their back? (Honestly, I feel like birth positions through history could be a video all on it's own. I've seen some crazy stuff. 😂).

Hi MDJ ^^. I'm not pregnant, but I have a question. I was feeling light cramps for over than 10 days, at first I thought that I was pregnant bcs I was feeling nauseous and my period didn't come on the day it should come. I was going to buy a pregnancy test, but my period just came yesterday. I have PCOS. I never had cramps for a so long time... I don't know if I should go to my OBGYN to see if everything is okay. Thanks for your videos, they helped me a lot to understand more about a lot of things.

The cord was wrapped around both of my babies necks, not a problem the first time, but it caused a scare the second time. Most terrifying minute of life. This is very encouraging for me. My mother lost a baby when I was 6 (so I remember the events very vividly) due to the cord getting wrapped around his neck. I am now pregnant with my first, and I have actual PTSD symptoms whenever someone warns me about this myth. I had a feeling it was just a myth, but just the mere mentioning of it triggers me😞 I wish people would just mind their own business.

@@naimairfan5738 No, no one knew the cord was around their necks. At the end of your pregnancy you don’t ordinarily have an ultrasound unless they suspect something is wrong, and there were no signs of anything being wrong with either of my babies while I was pregnant. Not until I was pushing them vaginally that out was it found out.

@@cowfreezer7099 It's so scary when you hear other tragic events but just remember every woman and every pregnancy is different. Both my babies had cords around their necks and I didn't know how common it was until the second. Scary things can happen but you can't dwell on the "what ifs" or you will make yourself sick. Enjoy the pregnancy, enjoy feeling the movements, know how amazing you are and what you are capable of doing as a woman.

You're a few years off at least from this being relevant, but make sure you know how to protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy and disease well before you ever get in that situation. Also, respect yourself and any potential partner you have. Saying "no" is always okay from either person, and you don't have to say "yes" or say nothing to feel more grown up. Also, definitely get the HPV shot if you can (it can prevent cervical cancer) and check your state laws for how much your doctor has to tell your parents if they're overbearing or you're just a private person. Good on you for doing some sensible research

Related to the seat belt while pregnant: wearing it so the straight part of the belt sits against your hips rather than your abdomen (therefore, if you have a belly, under your belly instead of across it) is actually the proper way for everyone to wear a seat belt at all times. We were taught this in my driver's ed class and shown the crash test videos that show what happens to the body when the belt is over your abdomen. That's how you get things like a lacerated liver or spleen, or rupture internal organs. It's not meant to be worn that way.

i just looked this up bc i was thinking 'that sounds fake, no one ever told me that' but it's 100% true! the upper part of the seatbelt should sit across your chest/shoulder & the lower part of the seatbelt should sit low on your hips & not across your tummy. tysm for this comment!

I was 38 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and was heading to my doctor appointment with my husband in November when we got into a car accident. My seat belt was below my belly across my legs. I also was sitting incorrectly - crossed legged, only because I needed a hole for my belly to sit in. Everyone I spoke to was so relieved to hear I had the seat belt below my belly. I can't imagine not wearing it that way. The airbag hit my leg and burned off my skin some, and I truly think that if I wasn't sitting that way, my belly would have been hit. Blessing. Baby was born same day, just as a precaution from all the trauma. We all are happy and healthy. No issues at all, thank goodness.

@@TheCrochetCritters so I cant reply on their behalf but yeah, often times "____sexual" is used loosely in a way just to denote who you are attracted to in general and some people mean it how you said in your question but also, sonetimes people mean it like theyre on the Asexual spectrum but they may still want sex in some situations or maybe just less frequently and when they do its always with guys and sometimes people use different more specific names to say both at the same time but yeah thats my vague understanding that doesnt neccessarily fit this person's exact experience just in case he never answers or takes a while hope it makes sense :)

I'm 32 and menopausal since I got ablation when I got sterilized, and I have no regrets at all (LOVE IT) but it sure is hard to find information about what it can be expected to do in a body my age. And I have some other endocrine and neuro stuff going on so illumination about the possible role of induced-menopause would really help!

When I was pregnant, I was super turned off by the thought of microwaving my meat so I did some research. The documented cases of listeriosis per year were so low that I made the executive decision to eat my sandwiches cold. I was already taking antidepressants and I figured if anything was going to harm my baby, it would be prescription medication before lunch meat. Everything turned out fine.

I was in a rollover crash on an icy road when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I had zero bruising from the seat belt. None of my pain came from the seatbelt and it definitely saved my life and my baby’s life! This is embarrassing but in case it helps anyone else I’ll tell the story. Some nice people in a pickup truck drove us to the hospital after the crash, and the whole time I thought I was bleeding from my uterus. When I got to the ER and went into the restroom, it turned out that I just peed myself, probably due to the impact and adrenaline 😖😬 The ultrasound showed my baby moving like CRAZY and the doctor said she was probably getting some of my adrenaline.

When my husband and I told my parents I was finally pregnant (years of fertility issues, plus I'm an only child so first, and likely only, grandchild) my husband broke out two mini bottles of champagne. He split one with me and one between my parents. My mother looked at me with such worry and said, "You're pregnant! You shouldn't drink!" To which my dad responded, "Michelle, you were drinking a beer the night we were playing cards and your water broke. I don't think that half a serving of champagne is going to hurt." @@nicolemyers4584 and a lot of children get diagnosed with Autism instead. I am a bio mum, my daughter is 8 months old and hasn't been diagnosed. I found out I was pregnant at 28 weeks and was living life normally until then (stopped drinking as soon as I found out). So I'm concerned that she may have FASD, currently she is developing perfectly and I hope it continues that way

I'm thirty weeks right now, and this is fascinating to me. At the start of my pregnancy, I was constantly Googling stuff and scared myself so many times. Around fifteen weeks, I just started following the basic rules my OBGYN told me about food, etc. My baby is healthy and on track to be a normal weight. :) Thanks for the video!

Nice! I just had someone judge me for coffee while pregnant. She asked if my baby was an very active baby because I drink coffee. No, my baby is active during pregnancy because her father was also active and because it’s normal for babies to be active. I know she didn’t mean harm but I took it as a judgment

I was so cautious about caffeine intake during my first pregnancy and only drank really diluted coffee milk or decaf. Come to find out, the studies associated really high caffeine intake throughout pregnancy with lower birth weight, and that's it. Really enjoying my daily half-caff and the occasional bottled iced coffee with my current pregnancy. Baby's growth and weight are right on target. 😊

I’m in my first pregnancy, & I have to say thank you for this video! All the pregnancy books have a huge lists of “dos & don’ts” basically that are “just to be safe” with no scientific backing. Emily Oster’s Expecting Better is the only book I’ve found where she reads & reports the actual studies done on those huge blanket statements. For example; 3 alcoholic drinks a day is where there have been signs of problems, but 1-2 drinks in the 2nd trimester are fine.
