The way he talked about Paul Allender, who wrote Cradle's foundational and best material (minus Cruelty, which was all Stuart) is extremely cold. The dude created the Cradle sound, wrote Principle, V Empire, Dusk and Midian (not even mentioning what came after), stayed in the band longer than anyone else except Dani, and Dani talks about him like he was nothing and easily replaceable. He won't even mention his name...

I first saw Cradle Of Filth when my mates band (BURIAL) supported them not long after "Principle" had been released, at Jillys (Rockworld) in Manchester along with Bolt Thrower. We were sat around the same table as Dani and the band. Cradle started their headline set and they completely blew us away. I had never heard an album with songs so atmospheric and adrenalising. It is still one of my favourite albums to this day and Dani's lyrics and his understanding of the English language is completely unrivalled. He is a true, modern day poet in every sense of the word. There is absolutely nothing like the mind of Dani Filth! I bought Dusk in like 2000, and was blown away, after that I bought everything I could find. Every album is different with very intricately themed lyrics even if you can’t understand most of them. Musically there’s just nothing else like it, if you like horror movies and spooky shit. If your a musician playing rock, punk, metal, or classical there is something in their catalog that you can borrow and repurpose! I saw them at the boathouse in Newport News Va small venue and they blew it up as if it was in a coliseum! No reason they needed to come to a state without a big stage to offer, but they did it for the fans!

It was 1997, I was 17. I'd just heard of CoF through a sample CD in Raw Magazine. A few months previous, a friend of mine asked if I wanted to play bass in a local Black Metal group called Avathar. I had no knowledge of this genre of metal. I would hang out with these guys who were mad about Mayhem, Bathory and Venom. I hadn't a clue. I just loved blasting out the tracks on a valve stacker in an old Mill house, then some gigs with free drinks. I thought I'd introduce them to the CoF stuff I started listening to and it was like I'd given a Bomb warning to vacate the building. There was a mocking shame about them. We didn't last more than a year, although some of the songs were blistering. Production was shite though. It would have been great to rub shoulders with CoF if Avathar had swallowed their puritanical pride.

Also for a band of this type to last thing long and still get consistent millions of views and constant touring etc is impressive for this genre. I think cruelty and the beast is one of the most insane masterpieces to ever come out as far as this stuff goes. Crazy ass songwriting and lyrics. Like a fucking book or something.
