Loved this. I watched the reactions to Niki Sky’s video and was appalled at the amount of YouRubers bashing her, and becoming enraged simply because she decided to change her ways. Whether she sticks with it or not, it’s her life and her decision. I was shocked when Connor called her “insecure” when in my professional opinion people who are so easily triggered are usually the insecure ones. I agreed with your take on this topic

People are bashing her because they don't believe she's genuine. People are bashing her because she's preaching about getting rid of her high priced luxury logo items from a luxurious mansion while wearing Cartier jewellery. If people don't trust her or believe her, it does not mean they're triggered. If she bought all of those designer logoed items to prove her worth, then she is insecure.

Compared with other handbags, carrying such a bag is more cost-effective and more comfortable, and you won’t have to worry too much about theft or other accidents when traveling.

I can’t imagine paying today’s luxury prices. Never purchased a handbag with the intentions of selling it. If that was the case then you can’t afford to buy it. Agree material things should not define you. Save and invest your money. I retired at 56. Still able to travel and pay bills. Get a good financial planner , invest your money and sit back and watch it grow. Nothing wrong with carrying a contemporary bag and you are financially secure. If you can’t put $10k cash in a 10k handbag then you can’t afford it. Another great video. Thank you for sharing truth! 🙏🏾❤️

The problem is it is not even worth the 10$k, it is just real leather with chanel logo on, people are and were paying only for the brand’s name. They are NOT and never was worth the price tag, especially now. My family was super rick for years, generational self made rich and we never bought bags from those brands, we used to spend on shoes, maybe gown dresses rarely, but never on clothes, we spend them on gold or real estate, this is how it should be. If you think about it you can even spend it on traveling and life experience, but why clothes and bags? Just because we are women men think of the easiest way to “trap” us spend money on nonsense by overpricing them. If those bags were used by men it would not reach this level of craziness

Most businesses profit from our own insecurities and fears and emptiness. The reason why we overconsume is because we're always trying to fill a void, trying to find that happiness and feeling of excitement, the feeling of worthiness. Anyway, do what makes you happy. To each their own. This is just an observation I made in society and it helped me become more mindful of my own spending habits.

When I buy, it’s because it’s something I like and not because someone else has it. I only spend a small percentage of my gross income on “things”. All of the consumption has made people go into unnecessary debt, and I am not speaking the influencers, but those of us who follow them and feel you need to keep up with the Joneses...when your name is Brown. We have designer bags but no emergency contingency fund for a last minute disaster, we have designer clothing but no retirement plan, we have the entire Sephora store in our bathrooms but are a paycheck away from financial ruin...and for what? And for who? I commend the influencers that are being in honest about the space they are in mentally, emotionally about consumerism and their complicitness in it. Speaking for myself, I have purchased items I had no business purchasing and I am making a commitment to myself, to be conscious of my spending , do I really need this and why I am buying it. This was a fantastic commentary! THANK YOU!!!

Just found your account and this video and I think you raise some valid points. I had an incredibly aspirational white collar job that most people marbled Dad, but it slowly drove me to the point of suicidal ideation through stress to the point where I had to leave. Losing that form of income, I had to reevaluate my entire budget and I realized just how much I spent on useless shit to Phil avoid. I had too much stuff and the stuff was weighing me down when I didn’t have the job to distract me. To be more particular and discerning with what I buy because the money is just not there anymore, i’ve also realized how much buying luxury items was unexcused to avoid things that I was dealing with. I’m not saying this is for everyone, but I think pulling back on shopping especially those luxury items that make you feel so good will give you a better insight to your well-being. anyway great you’ve definitely earned subscriber.

This is so well said and put together. I have the money to buy most things and choose not to, a lot of buying comes from insecurities, but what you own ends up owning you. I was addicted to bags in my 20s living in LA, sold everything and moved to NYC in my 30s, now I live in England in my 40s and most wealthy people do not own designer bags, they know its marked up 700% and almost feel silly having a branded bag on their person. I have 10 bags now and hardly use them, it’s a waste of time and energy. I also worked in luxury fashion advertising in NY and there are so many people behind the scenes pushing these products that it made me wonder what the point is and that was in 2013. Quite possibly the best video on KZbin I’ve ever seen.

I do love Luxury since I read Harpers and Vogue from my mother when I was in Kindergarden... I still later loved it, but also have been moving often, so I curated a very basic and clean wardrobe already from the 90s on of highly valued and well made designer items (eg Burberry Trench in 93 which last year got refurbished by burberry, the row, hermes, lp, joseph, toteme, max mara) and so on... I'm a minimalist in every aspect of life with highly luxury items and I'm stunned to see that finally I'm like "copied", in fashion... Everything I own fits in 6 suitcases and that includes Grandma's china and sterling, kitchenware and even family héritage christmas decoration... And I invested wisely, own a condo, am able to travel often and have enough to buy a car out of pocket (though I don't need one in London)

What I realized about the luxury lifestyle is that not everyone can afford this lifestyle. Most people live off of a middle-class salary, and it's certain that a lot of people who keep flexing can barely afford their shopping addiction. Unless you have a business or a job that generates you millions in income, you're driving yourself into debt. Two options: quit or make more money.

I realized that when the Old Money and Quiet Luxury trends became popular. These influencers weren't just giving fashion advice with their Old Money vs New Money videos, it was a front to sell courses. And whenever I see those versus videos, I immediately leave a comment and ask "How much for the course?".

Luxyry can be a money pit, no matter your budget, there’s always something else to get. If you are not smart with money, you can easily get yourself in trouble. That being said, I will never understand why some get mad because one wants to buy less, but the opposite is true too. Why would I get mad at someone that has more than me? I don’t feel the need to analyze that person trying to find out if she or he can afford it. It’s none of my business, I cannot care less. I’m buying luxury if I can and that’s the end of it for me!

I think this KZbin bubble also contributed to this whole thing. It started where we came on here to watch a few people who actually owned Hermes bags before KZbin who are showing us their collections. Then KZbin became monetized where people made more money on KZbin than their regular jobs, this meant that young people suddenly began having disposable income to spend on luxury. But the KZbin platform is now saturated and unboxing is not a thing anymore. Now the competition is stiff and people don't make money on KZbin like they used to so it makes no sense anymore to keep buying $10k bags. If it wasn't for KZbin, most of the influencers would not be able to actually afford luxury bags. Influencers have also realized that they can sell their bags and still make money on this platform. But the bottom line is that we all want to look like we are wealthier than we really are and this has contributed to the social media FLEX CULTURE! "THE FLEX IS BULLSHIT".....Bam!

Is my understanding correct? Do you think the content creators that you mentioned in this video are also doing that? These people or like, Jessie Style, or Classic with a Quirk, like I don't think they are buying fakes. I think they are buying legitimate items. (maybe 2nd hand sometime.) But how do you think they afford that? I would like to hear your thoughts on that. My guess is that they have a main job that has good income and they do you tube as a hobby to show what they bought.

I’m glad I’m older and buy what I like and don’t follow trends. Not saying if you keep up with the latest luxury brand item, that’s ok too. Ppl. from my generation made it ok to buy whatever you want and make stylish by using your own individual style. I remember doing designer and vintage back in the mid 80s and those 2 groups didn’t mix. Meaning ppl. buying vintage didn’t buy luxury new and vise a versa. But that’s all changed now and now ppl. mix new and used. I also don’t get impressed with ppl. wearing all big name luxury brands. Good thing about getting older is you don’t have to prove much to anyone. And those ppl. are the ones that are the most stylish. Partly bc those ppl. grew up with not having money and had to learn on their own to make themselves look great by going to thrift stores and flea markets. Vs always having a designer tell you what looks great. So do what you like and don’t let the fashion ppl. tell you what brands you need to wear I just bought this vintage Stussy large houndstooth sweatshirt off eBay and can’t wait to get it and love it as much as it was LV and only cost me $35.

Buying a bag is not just buying a bag when they cost thousands. Be real. It’s to flex. I doubt the majority of people buy because of “craftsmanship” or “quality” or love of heritage.

I think they’re selling because they’re broke. Some appear to have gone homeless and are shooting videos in their car/home. It’s so sad.

As someone who has recently grown to love luxury things, I do feel frustrated with the hypocrisy. I’ve never seen an influencer belittle folks who don’t buy outrageously expensive things; however, people like you are being judge mental about how others spend their money. This video is pretty sad
