the log profile is awesome, and one bad thing would be the noise image, its workable but still not as sharp as the sonys full frame. autofocus is improved but still not on the level of cony or even canon

Everything, even the autofocus. I made it work as goog as possible and I have two videos showcasing it on my channel. Soon they will release the G9m2 with phase detect autofocus. I'll take that as a second camera maybe😄

Hey, I own the GH5 since 2017 and didn't upgrade the camera since then. It has everything I need! I had no reason to upgrade. Instead I've invested in light's, lenses, etc. I will not Upgrade the camera until it breaks! Will see if a Gh7 in the future will change my mind but for me moving from the GH5 to a GH5m2 or GH6 etc didn't make any sense ☺️

My first camera body in 40 years; bought used w/2 batteries, V-log and a cage for $650 Sept 2022. Threw the 25mm MFT lens in the toilet and have been adapting amazing, fast, affordable vintage glass ever since. Prolly looking at picking up another for back up...keep this party rollin"! The GH5 is a great video camera except for the autofocus. If you're skilled at manual focus in video, and you will always be available to operate the camera manually, then have at it. You will love it! But if you film yourself or you want a camera you can just set up and walk away from (which is what I want since I might be operating a second camera), this is not the camera for you.

People think buying new camera make them better filmmakers... I am already cured from that spiral of thinking and now I know that GH5 is all I need + more. I prefer spend more money for lighting, lenses etc. Only thing I hate about GH5 is a big lag on HDMI port. It's hard to monitor focus when you shot dynamic action and preview on ext. monitor.

Bought my first G9 (it's basically almost the same camera) a year ago. Instantly fell in love with it. The video quality, the ergonomics, weather sealing, MFT lens size and used market availability. Sure AF is kinda weak but I can work around that, can't beat it for the price. Sold my G9 in summer, regretted it ever since. Now switched back from S5 to G9 and I feel complete again. I mainly shoot video and wildlife, travel photos. The best camera I've ever had.

The G9 is amazing. I was really thinking hard about buying it too back in the day. The only issue for me is that the original G9 has a 30 min record limit for video, and unfortunately, I need long format recording for my client work. But the G9 mk2 looks even better than the GH6, in my opinion. I will buy that one day and make a full review:) Keep shooting for now, my friend!

I own the GH5II since it was released. The only 2 this I miss is the Dual Native ISO from the GH5S and Internal ND's. I think those should be elementary for a heavy video centric camera

Sure, but for the price - you just can't complain. Also re low light - ISO 1000 is still usable. ISO 1600 and you can use a denoiser and get away with it somewhat.

Hey. I have owned my Panasonic GH5 from new for about 3 years. I mainly use it to make short movies. My latest short film, 'An Impossible Secret' which I didn't write by the way, I was the assistant producer, director and cinematographer has so far won 11 film awards, and we are still waiting to hear more from film festivals. So yes, the Panasonic GH5 is definitely a go for camera. 😃🙌

now in mid 023, how do you feel about camera choices... coming form a GH3... is it still worth it to go over to Gh5S or are there other cameras you think one should consider now, like gh6 or Sigma FP, or Black Magic P4K...etc? thanks for sharing what you think is worth considering in 2023! hope to hear from people that tested these cameras and can say what pros could be to choose one of these over the others in 2023 and forward

I think it depends: for me, I am also pretty heavily invested into the MFT system (lenses / accessories etc). The L-mount alliance lenses are pretty expensive, and the results are better, but you need to ask yourself: how much better are they really? and how much is it going to cost you extra to get images that are a little better than what the MFT system can already give you? So for me, its a pure cost vs benefit analysis. Once again, I think for the PRICE, GH5 / GH6 and MFT lenses are great. Ofc, if money is no object to you, then you can go ahead and invest in the RED cameras ;)

@@justalexhimself no, cost is a great issue to me.. one of my lenses the zoom lens up to 300 mm which is about 600 mm of full format cost over 1200 dollars... so not gonna just throw that away .. but the raw ability of cinema filming feels important to start using. seems like Panasonic have not made any way to film in RAW like the black magic cameras do, but I might be wrong, I am new to color grading and cinema raw formats... what are the difference of the image of Panasonic gh 5Sor gh6 and the black magic micro or P4K cameras abilies?

@@SimplicityForGood You're right, the GH series don't have internal RAW from what I remember. But I think if you pair GH5 / GH6 with Atomos Ninja Monitor it gives you some higher resolution features, but I am not sure so best look at some other videos on KZbin to clarify. BlackMagic Cameras will give you ProRes and some better dynamic range for sure.

GH6 has ProRes and higher resolution slo-mo. Definitely paying for more codecs and an updated system. However, it depends on your audience if those nitpick things matter.

My first video shooter was a Lumix G70 and I acquired some good lenses in the past few years. Made finally the jump th the GH5 now because I found an excellent deal on a used GH5 for just 430€ (with the vlog upgrade included).. which honestly is nothing for such a great tool.

The best reason is Open Gate, the image is much nicer than on my S5II, GH6 or G9II. Free from any stupid sharpening or details filtering.

@@justalexhimself Yes the GH5MK1 in Open Gate has nicer details rendering than the G9II, GH6 and G9II. The image is free from digital sharpening. Of course, the colors science, low light performance and AF (only for the G9II and S5II) are worse on the GH5.

You're right with everything you've mentioned in ur video! I own the GH5 since 2017 and didn't upgrade to any newer camera since than. Instead I've invested in lenses light's etc. Trying to take the best out of this camera! The GH5 is OP! And I will not upgrade it until it brake's. hi, i just got the GH5 and im having some minor issue with photo mode. when continiusly half pressing focus the screen in Viewfinder and lcd screen flickers each time, any fix or tips?

I am not sure actually. The only reason I can think of it flickering is if the eye sensor for the viewfinder is too sensitive and switches between the LCD screen and the viewfinder too quickly.... but other than that I am not sure what the issue might be :/

Would u buy one now for about 500€? I have another cameras like Sony A7iii and Fuji XT30 but i always loved Lumix due to its stabilization. I want to learn more about video and i think this could be a very good camera for that. Nowadays only do photos with my gear...

I don't know enough about the Sony A7iii or the Fuji, so I can't make an un-biased comment.... for me: just the MFT lenses are much smaller and more compact which is what I want personally. But your requirements might be different :)

That's something I used to do as well! I've even find out that If you go over 800 ISO shooting 4:3, you have less noise then in other modes.

i recently picked up the GH5 (with V-Log L included), for £360. It's the best bang for the buck all round hybrid camera, even in 2024. And believe it or not, it is stickier in auto focus than the G9 II which I bought and sold.I can't ask for more.

Another reason is the GH5 has Idynamic, I resolution, 6K photo and a different details rendering in video than the GH6.

Bought my GH5 in 2020. After a few years I thought ‘well it’s time to go full frame’. So I sold all my MFT lenses and my GH5 earlier this year. HORRIBLE MISTAKE nothing but G.A.S. Dumped the Panasonic S5 and now I’m looking to buy another GH5 and all my favorite lenses again😂

G9 mk2 just dropped. That looks pretty cool and better than the GH6
