Wyoming is beautiful, Wyoming has a lot of freedom but I ask this. If you are thinking about moving here, don't try to change Wyoming. We like things the way they are here. You can get property fairly reasonable out of the "city" and in the smaller towns. There are pros and cons with everything. I think you would like it. People here are friendly. My wife and I moved here to Wyoming in 1978, when I joined the Highway Patrol. We raised our two girls here, and they ended up marrying two great Wyoming men and we now have four wonderful Wyoming grandchildren. Wyoming is a wonderful place to live and raise a family, but there are certain caveats to be aware of. The winters here can be brutal. I remember working accidents on I-85 when the temperature was between -30 and -60 F with winds that can get up to 50-75 mph. Make a mistake in judgement in those conditions and you might not get a second chance. Remember, we measure trips in hours, not miles, here in Wyoming. Whenever you travel across the state, just make sure you top off your tank every chance you get, 'cause some of the roads are desolate enough that if you get stuck or stranded out in the middle of nowhere, and we've got a whole bunch of nowhere here, it may be a while before anyone, and I mean anyone, comes by. Fortunately, most folks here will stop and help, but they can be few and far between. If you are thinking about moving to Wyoming, spend a little time thinking about why. Is it because you hate where you now live? That's a perfect formula for failure. Come here because you love it here more than you love where you're at. Seems like a small difference, but it's critical. Take a vacation through Wyoming in the summer, spend a couple weeks just driving around our great state, meet the people, smell the fresh air and, most of all. get out of your vehicle now and then and take a nice peaceful walk up in the mountains, or even on the plains. One more thing: just to seal the deal; come visit us in late December or January for a couple of weeks and get a taste of the cold, the snow and the wind. If that experience doesn't put you off, then you may love it here. Remember, many folks who move here end up leaving after their first winter.

To Briggs and KZbin, I honestly really love Wyoming, even if the weather is tough most of the year. I have been in Colorado Springs for a while now, but I've been to Wyoming several times as well. There are so many reasons why Wyoming is my favorite state. I felt right at home in Wyoming when i first visited Yellowstone in 2021, even being from Florida and escaping the heat and humidity. I had never been before that trip, but it makes me feel good that the world still has wonderful places like Wyoming that aren't run with high population densities, that have no corrupt politics, and are still affordable (but outside of Jackson Hole, obviously). No state is perfect, but I just want to give a shout out to the state of Wyoming and its truly incredible people that have positively impacted my life and make me potentially want to move there when I am older. Don't worry I definitely won't change your politics, as I see myself as a moderate who would live in a low tax state like Florida or Texas, minus the crowds. I spent the first 29yrs of my life living in NY. I’ve spent over the last decade in WY. Here’s the honesty of it: the rich and wealthy once only bought up properties in the area of Jackson Hole. That is changing drastically, driving up home costs in many areas. If you want to shop at an irl store, hope Walmart is as diverse as you want it. Many of your fav stores don’t exist here, or only exist in 1-2 locations. If you want clothes that aren’t from Walmart or super ugly boutique western wear, be prepared to make a trip of it. The weather is beyond unpredictable; it can be 80 one day and snow the next (I’ve literally seen that), then drop to -30, then rain at 50 degrees a day after that. The weather needs Prozac. If you love guns, hiking/camping/hunting, or basically the outdoors then sure, there are places here that are great, but not all. The north eastern part of the state is a craphole compared to other parts when it comes to the outdoors. But keep in mind, the mass migration of wealthy west coast ppl are driving up costs in the most scenic areas of the State. If you need specialty medical care, oh boy. In most places you may have to wait several months for an appt with a traveling clinic, or face very long drives to visit other States for care. The schools are AMAZING. The taxes from oil and coal keep most WY schools extremely well funded, like beyond some private schools even. You never pay for a trip, no fees for anything, and some of the districts even fund a sleepaway camp for the kids to kick off the school year that’s zero cost to families. They have had classrooms filled with Apple products for over a decade now. A++ on schools. There is very little to no entertainment here beyond outdoor stuff and winter time can cut off many outdoor activities to all but the most extreme outdoorsmen/women. There are only a handful of towns/cities in the entire State where you can find restaurants that serve more than either steaks, Mexican, Chinese, and sushi. That’s the max variety in most places, and most places don’t even have all of those. WY has the highest rate of domestic abuse per capita in the country. We also have one of the deadliest roads to drive in the country. There is also a very high DUI rate despite the lowest population in the country and our drive-thru liquor stores probably don’t help that lol It is also not NEARLY the friendly, old school vibe you may think you’d get from ppl who grew up in a place like this. You’d think it’s that old American ‘get to know your neighbors’ kinda deal here and that has not been my experience at all. My NY neighbors were far friendlier/helpful/nicer than any ive had here. Ppl keep to themselves fairly hardcore, at least in my area. Larger places may be different.

Although things they are changing, but still a wonderful lifestyle. I would excourage those coming from predominantly Democratic states to please think about the reasons you left before you vote Democratic. Wyoming takes a while to adjust to and check out weather patterns before you pick out a city/area. I live in Park County WY. There is limited shopping, other than WalMart. Cody has some nice clothing shops. It is a tourist town. Great restaurants. But again, life style. I live in Powell 24 miles from Cody. Not a tourist town, just a small town with a few good restaurants, it is quiet. I could and have walked my dog at midnight without a second thought. Our main street is pretty much businesses now. Very little retail any longer. Stores began closing down as shoppers turned to the Internet. Many in Park Couny have resulted to traveling to Billings for shopping, especially in bulk. Billings has all the stores, and no sales tax. Although it is 90 minutes away, it is totally stress free. 70 miles an hour through country for the most part. Weather can be extreme. This winter little snow or sub zero temps to speak of. Check it out though. Thank goodness for the Internet, you can shop for a state to move to without leaving your couch.

The weather from where you are has nothing to do with where you are going, and conversely upon your return. Don't imagine this place is like where you are from. It isn't.

Wyoming is a beautiful place. I have only gone there once - to Jackson Hole in 1979. What I remember is for a couple days in a row the high temperature was minus 15. The local's all left their vehicles running because they were afraid if they turned them off they wouldn't start. Along the street there were sticks like parking meters but they were for plugging in your car engine heater which all vehicles were equipped with. Generally that isn't the case. Typically crime follows economic lines. Wyoming has a good GDP per capita, not bad unemployment which keeps people out of the most criminal prone economy class, an overall older population, sparse population which deters certain crimes and emphasizes self-agency since you need to be of some means given mobility issues, and doesn't have a sweeping legacy of historical problems like Jim Crow laws that disenfranchise people and make them criminal prone.

In my opinion, there is no place in The U.S. more beautiful than Grand Teton. I used to visit nearly every weekend when I lived in Wyoming. Jackson is a cool town, but can be very busy at times with many tourists. Traffic in that town can feel like a big city at times during the Summer (Road Construction season), especially up hwy 191 as well as Hwy 22 , as well as Moose Wilson Rd. Besides the traffic though, it is a very nice place to visit
@chrisadamgreen4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Tiff, I loved Wyoming. When I lived in Rock Springs, I used to drive down the road a bit to the middle of the desert, and shoot my guns out there. Never had to pay for a gun range. It was so much fun. Many people would also own atv’s, dirt bikes, and Polaris Rangers, and would go off roading to the Kill Pecker sand dunes just north of town. They are some of the most expansive dunes in the world. Also, we had Firehole Canyon, which is part of the Flaming Gorge that straddles the Utah-Wyoming state line. It was absolutely stunning. Only 20 minutes from my house. I would go down there to walk my dogs most days after work. Green River was also a nice town just west of Rock Springs, where I lived. It was a town that looked like something right out of a western film. Then, we had the Snowy Range, about 3 hours east of us near Laramie. That was a neat drive up into mountains. One of the most scenic drives in the West. Wyoming was definitely a great place to live. Also, there is lots of gold there. We used to prospect for Gold in the foothills of South Pass, near the town of Lander. And South Pass City. One of my friends collected quite a large gold nugget a few years back. Overall, I highly recommend Wyoming a place to call home.

I am expecting to see more listings as we enter spring/summertime.

I am a ham radio operator and the last state I would need to have a contact with in order to complete all the US states in my log was Wyoming. This made me search more about it. Im excited about the facts of this video. I see a lot of similarities with the country I live now, Norway

Have spent much time in beautiful Wyoming over the last 50 years, met many fine people, have watched the cities start to erode too the left but small towns and rural people still see it thru the eyes of reality. If you lean left, stay where you are.

So true about the clean air. I'm fortunate enough to go to Wyoming for work occasionally. My allergies and breathing are magnitudes better there. Definitely wouldn't stir the pot, but just enjoy what's in it...considering it a retirement option.

Been here for 2 years. Houses are crazy expensive compared to anywhere in the South. Especially when you consider square footage and age (most homes for sale are from like the 50's. Spring/Summer/Fall here is amazing, but the winter is as long as all 3 combined. And the wind man. Only when its cold AF, it somehow manages to blow in every direction simultaneously. And maybe Jackson Hole as a good food scene, Cheyenne DOES NOT. If I want goo food, I drive down to Fort Collins, CO. options are pretty bare bones here.
@ITSTotallyTubluar3 жыл бұрын
@Mama Bear I try to not regret, but i moved and wouldn't return unless someone offered me 6 figures. The winter is too long, there is no soil (just small rocks and a sand like substrate), and while some of the most beautiful landscapes are there, its pretty desolate.

Wyoming is awesome, you just have to ask yourself..... 1. Is -35f too cold for me? It does get this cold at least twice a year (and that’s not wind chill) 2. Do I like 40-60 mph wind? And gusts up in the 70s, this is normal, when the wind stops, it starts snowing. 3. Do I like shopping? We lived just over q00 miles from the nearest Walmart until they built the smallest one they have (still 15 mile drive) 4. Do I like guns? Everyone has a gun, everyone, my daughter had to take a gun to school for gun safety class. Everyone has a gun. 5. Do I LOVE winter? We have 3 seasons in Wyoming, almost winter, winter, still winter and construction. 6. Do I like helping absolute strangers? When your driving to town and it’s -20f and you see someone broke down, you need to stop, they will die if you don’t. 7. Do you like lockdowns? We don’t have them as such, but unlike decades ago, they will close the roads instead of plowing them, you will be stuck at home a lot. 8. Do you smoke pot? Forget it, Wyoming is in competition with Alabama to see who can legalize last. 9. Do you own a 4 wheeler or side by side? You will have to register and insure it, but then you can drive it on the street. 10. Do you hate crime? There truly is almost no crime in Wyoming, there are 2 reasons for this, life in Wyoming is hard enough and most police departments are extremely corrupt. 11. Are you a republican? This is a throw away question, it doesn’t matter in Wyoming, if you live here, you are, even if your not, that’s how you’ll vote, even if you don’t. 12. Love the great outdoors? Yeah? Ask people in Washington D.C. how often the go to the monuments or ask people in Rapid City how to get to Mt.Rushmore.

I lived in Big Piney Wyoming in the late 1970s and early 1980s with my grandfather Joseph Bodie the pastor of the congregational church in town in the parsonage. My uncle Dave was a town police officer. I worked at the Phillips 66 in town. I told y'all this so you know I'm being truthful. Wyoming is beautiful and big and empty and the trout fishing is amazing the people are fantastic and kind. While the summers are nice the winters are BRUTAL, we had to plug our cars in at night because it's so cold or they wouldn't start in the morning. I actually saw it snow on September 3rd or 5th don't remember exactly because it was a lifetime ago. Had to travel to Rock Springs or Pinedale for an actual full size grocery store. Long ride. I liked it but I was also young and don't know that I could handle it now. There you have it.
