Indeed. I want to be educated as well and learn how to make belts last the longest. Went to Baja last week and my OEM belt failed after I raced down the pacific coast at 70 to 80 mph. When I went to climb out from the beach on a steep sandy hill my check engine light went on suggesting belt failure. Replaced with a new Hunter belts and finished the rest of the 700 miles. I want to stay on top of clutch and belt issues so these videos are extremely helpful!

Had a HL 1K running 34.5 HL2, GDP portals, always ran high range in deep mud for wheelspeed. Run the bike hard every weekend for over 2.5 years. When I sold it still had the stock original belt and clutch in perfect condition. It's all about knowing how your machine is setup and knowing how to drive it. Not just buying random aftermarket stuff and hoping it works together.

I just want to say that i have 7300+ miles on my 2014 xp900 with the original belt and tires. I use low when needed but if i can run over 10 to 15 mph i keep it in high. Of course if its a long slow hill its in low. One thing i do is blow out my clutches every 3 to 4 rides and i rotate my primary to blow it out completely. I don't take off creeping and i don't flat foot it....i roll into it . I also turn my secondary to completely blow it out 🙂

Ordered my first hunterworks belt. Installed it. No break in. Straight to the atv park. Unloaded it and could tell it was a better quality belt From my previous belts. Drove straight to a big mud hole (REALLY THICK MUD) plus I’m running 35” tires. launched it. Long story short. Instead of getting pulled out I played too long and burnt up the belt. 100% my fault. I knew it was. Didn’t fault the belt. Gave it another chance. Ordered another belt and it’s lasted me longer than any other belt so far witch says a lot for me because I’m hell on a belt.

Just bought my first Hunterworks thicker wider belt for our Polaris XP 1000, got the washer and roller kit. Love the videos , very helpful info and I’m now a “do it yourselfer” thanks to your vids. Just asking, do you sell the tshirts that you wear in the videos? Or stickers for our rides? Would love to have a Hunterworks sticker to show what belt we’re running. A lot of people riding haven’t heard of you guys and just run the factory belt from the local Polaris dealer. Like I use to. I got tired of changing them and paying high prices and finally googled best belt for rzr and Hunterworks videos popped up. Thought I would give you guys a try. @@Hunterworks I believe its the EPI Mudder series kit, not 100% sure. The bike belongs to my son and we just trying to figure out what's going on with it. I agree its the bigger tires and no gear reduction (portals are coming though) causing the issues or either the clutches are out of alignment (i have the alignment tool ordered).When he bought the bike, we pulled the clutches, found a crack in the primary clutch sheave so we replaced the primary and secondary and a new after market belt, but it still didn't perform like it should so went back to a stock belt and it seems to do better but still going through belts. I'll check the alignment and i believe he is going to go with a new primary clutch from you guys.

I owned a '15 ranger full size 570, blew up the belt full throttle goung down the road on 2016 4th of july, those little 570s csn do 50-55 mph, anyway belt disinagrated and blasted a hole through the rear clutch cover, it happened because i flooded the clutch box a few weeks prior and burned the shit out of the belt trying to get out of the mud hole, its my own damn fault and i learned from it, have a rzr 900 s4 now, belt and clutch is my focus when im in hairy spots, as it should be, the transmission is the critical point between you and the machine. Reading some of these comments about how much people can reef on their machine and keep going makes me cringe,all machines fail, id rather it be a $80 belt than a blown up engine.

Not to argue with you, but the cvt systems most sxs use don't belong on a machine that heavy with that much horsepower. To me it's more of the manufacturers being cheap and selling something that is set up for failure. The belt going slack at a stop is only something that should be on snowmobiles. A sxs needs to have a centrifugal wet clutch so the belt can always stay under tension or possibly a torque converter. Anything this heavy should be braced on both sides of the pulleys, for example the belt cover needs bearings in it to support both pulleys and be a structural component. And the turbo cars basically just need to give up on rubber belt transmissions, they are not going to live. I will not drive careful in a high performance off-road machine just to save a belt. Polaris has been one of the worst cvt builders in the sxs and atv world, even though they basically have been doing it the longest. The Yamaha ultramatic is one of the best cvt systems out there but it's still only good for lighter machines without turbo engines. Honda is the one who could make one hell of a transmission if they actually tried. They started one in the Rincon but it needs more than 3 speeds, a version of that with 6 speeds and low range would be a great solution for most all of these higher power sxs machines out there. Of course the DCT works great also but can burn clutches pretty quick for the rock crawling guys.

Hey great video, thanks!! My question is, i do ohh! About 50/50 slow hill and rock climbing and then fast on logging trails, gravel roads. I’m driving a 2016 xp 1000 turbo everything stock. I do carry a good size plastic toolbox and a spare tire on a polaris tire rack, have a 4500 lb. wench on the front and a few extras like full doors and rock guards and a front bumper ( home made). I’ve never had problems with belts. But last summer a clutch seal took a dump and dumped oil all over my belt and was pretty much done with riding for the rest of my vacation. My driving is a mix of fast driving and slow climbing, but no more then 55-65 mph on the gravel logging roads, and the climbing is medium at best. Plus I don’t get out to ride as much as I’d like. Still under 1500 miles closer to 1000. But it seems my rzr runs hotter when I’m driving it up around 9-10 thousand ft. Elev”. To the point i can smell the belt. Which I’ll usually slow down or stop and let it cool down before it shuts down which I believe it will do by itself. But I don’t know which is the problem. Belt/ altitude/ driving habit Or combination of the three. I am guilty of running the ruff slower trails in high but it seemed to handle it ok but then again I could be a little dense in the head at those altitudes. Any in put. Any belt changes for fast/ slow / crawl type driving in high altitudes.

@@jormac715 The 16 is unique and there was a update from Polaris, not sure if you had it done. Then clutching is very specific and you are asking it to do two different things that need different set ups, slow riding needs heavier weights for belt grip and faster needs lighter for rpm. High elevation needs light if you are driving fast to overcome the lack of oxygen in the air and less power

Wesley Garrison my comment was not to say anything bad about Polaris. Certainly not anything bad about Hunterworks. I’m sure this video helps a lot of Polaris owners. I replaced the belt on my 19 year old Yamaha. The belt I took off was practically new. I’m looking to buy a SxS. Just helped me cross Polaris off my list. I just want to ride when I get the chance, not maintain.

@@ProTechEpoxyFloors When Yamaha makes a vehicle that has everything a Polaris has I will have one that I use, they just don't. I have a X2 Wolverine and I can't stand it. My favorite is the Ranger 1000, I have a new 19 model. But again this video is about helping Polaris folks out once they have bought one not a debate on who's belt drive is the best, we all know that one and it is Yamaha, just the rest of the vehicle is not so great.

Couple things that have been mentioned to me Todd.... 1. Apparently with a replacement helix and tuned weights and springs there is a huge amount of wheel horsepower to gain on the XP1k? Any comments? Second one is if a customer upgrades to say a 3” taller tire wouldn’t the factory spring/weight combination lug the clutch too much and create heat down low?

No helix adds HP and no sir on the lugging, when you are going slow the belt is in lower ratio, you just need belt grip. You can call me if you need more details

Sorry, us sledders call them Polar Putz. Paying $20k for something then spending money and time to fix the flaws is ridiculous. Clutching and belts have been around for 50+ years. I had Aaen do an overdrive mod on my 95 ZRT 800 w/a steel helix and needle bearing rollers. Ran 127mph with some track slip with a stock engine in 1996. Great video. Yes it is, some slack in gearing etc that has to close up before you move. If you find your belt slipping at higher speeds when you floor it, that happens on this model and the Dalton kit we sell will fix this.

To me, that drive shaft to the front axle always looked like an after thought, why does it come out from the far left side then goes on an angle to the front.
@jakebarnier5188
@jakebarnier5188 4 жыл бұрын
Drive shaft has to tap into transmission output. Differential should be in center (lets us use same replacement axl for all 4 wheels), and driveshaft has to angle from transmission output to front differential that is in the center of the front of the vehicle.

i love my DCT. It adapts to your riding style. With high and low range on mine i love it. It can get down and dirty or max out around 49 mph. Overall good for the guy in the middle. I still prefer the old honda 300 as it has the least motor and tranny issues. Brakes suck but i dont use brakes unless im in the hills. I always keep the hydro brakes in good condition the rear i just remove the shoes and ride. They can seize.
