The concept of super strong agile fast invisible invincible soldier (stuff DARPA dreams of making) makes the predator not only the best movie but also a life size lab test of sorts with extremely visionary results if a close enough development was made... Also the predator franchise would have been biggest ever if its core strengths were maintained or emphasized.

Okay, I have 5 Additional Reasons: 1) Van Damme is actually still in the movie, as an invisible Predator in "hole in the jungle" scene; 2) The movie is basically slasher film meets action film meets sci-fi. 3) Mandibles of the Predator were designed by friggin' James Cameron. 4) To see Arnold Schwarzenegger effectively escaping the nuclear explosion. 5) Deleted scenes inclde Arnold Schwarzenegger being tortured for minutes in a flashback which was sadly cut. Scenes are considered lost but it is still a great advantage fact to see the movie. 5,5) The Predator is voiced by veteran voice actor Peter Cullen.

After a four year active duty enlistment in the U.S. Air Force, I enlisted the Air Force Reserves, and the weekend Predator opened, I had pulled a weekend gig to do my monthly requirement. As I walked to the theater, I saw a Vietnam Vet going to the same movie, that poor bastard had had the shit shot of him during the war; he was severely bent over, walked with the assistance of a cane, he wore a Tiger Stripped camouflage boonie hat, and he had a camo'd Thermos strapped along his side. The man had already seen the movie, but he was going again, and I'll never forget what he said "Low Tech versus High Tech, Low Tech Wins Every time." Predator was and still remains a very good movie.
