Jez, I had to comment on your video. It quite literally changed my life. Until recently, my guitar was collecting dust sitting in a closet. After seeing your video (and buying your amazing book-truly amazing!) I found that I really could play the songs I grew up with. My two-year-old grand son visits often, one day I played a few of your songs and now, at two years old, equipped with my Ukuele, he and I sit and rock out! He comes by every day, runs into the closet to get you song book sits next to me and we go wild!!! At two, he can even strum the up down (not-quite-chords) along with me. I thank you for this gift you’ve given me and my grandson.

excellent lesson, thanks ... what makes your presentation work is the reverb of your vocals, which is due to how you mic'ed the room. In your intro, I thought, oh, he's got a room echo from the mic being positioned straightup in the centre of the room (or there abouts ...) but when you start to sing, that natural reverb of the room makes the vocals come alive. Very low-tech excellence. Thanks!

How could anyone not enjoy that. Songs that are instantly recognisable even though most of them are over 60yrs old and it would be great to be able to play them. Perfect campfire songs. Having said that this guy is a very experienced time served guitar player. It will take longer than you think to get even close to his level of playing despite the fact its a single boom-chuck rhythm and only 3 chords. But it's something to aim for and that's the attitude I'm taking.

Just ordered the book! Thanks! One additional thought: I've noticed that a lot of video tutorials focus on 'just three or four easy chords', but not many give middling players great direction on where to go from there. I'd love a book that gives you the lyrics and basic chord backbone of a song, but also offers alternative chords that can be used as one progresses to add interest and broaden musical understanding.

Hi Nathaniel. Thanks very much for the book order. In the songbook you've ordered I do actually indicate a few extra (but not essential) chords that can be used to spice up the guitar accompaniment a little (7th and 6th chords). If you're wishing to build on your chord knowledge and skills significantly, however, then original rock 'n' roll and rockabilly isn't really the place to do that. Like the blues and country music from which rock 'n' roll/rockabilly emerged, these songs usually are played with just 3 or 4 chords. If you wish to build on the 4 basic chords presented in my songbook, rather than adding more chords, I'd recommend working on different ways of using those chords: for example, replacing the basic open chords with 'riffs', such as the ones I teach in my Tutorials #1, #2 , #3, #4 and #6. Here's a link to a playlist containing those 5 tutorials and others that you may find useful: kzbin.info/aero/PL3k8ba924QgZ_-jUIMEvUcfn8iBdZBwuH
