Rock 'n' Roll Songbook

Күн бұрын

I hope you enjoy my second rockin' medley! As with my last video, my aim is to demonstrate how easy it can be to play rock 'n' roll and rockabilly songs on the acoustic guitar -- it's not the number of chords you know, it's how you use them that counts!
I teach the strumming patterns I use when playing open chord rock and roll like this in my Tutorial #5: • Tutorial #5 - Rock 'n'...
You can learn some of the most commonly used riffs in rock and roll and rockabilly from my other guitar tutorials: • Rock and Roll / Rockab...
If you'd like to buy a copy of my new chord songbook '50 from the Fifties', which contains 50 classic rock 'n' roll and rockabilly songs that can be played with just 4 easy open chords, then search for 'Jez Quayle' and 'Rock and Roll' on Amazon. Unfortunately, I can't provide a single Amazon link that will work all around the world.
If Amazon says 'out of stock', or you'd prefer not to use Amazon, you can also purchase the songbook from Lulu.com in paperback or as an eBook (pdf format). Here's the Lulu.com link: www.lulu.com/s...
Here's a contents list for the songbook:

Hello, great tutorial, thank you. The thing that bring additional attractiveness to your performance is the way of singing rock&roll songs. You sing it with lot of nice vocal "riffs", just like you use the riffs in guitar playing. A tutorial about your way of rock&roll singing would be interesting to see, as well :). V

I'm glad you like the songbook. Thanks very much for the Amazon review btw. I've only made one lead guitar video so far (the lead guitar parts in Chuck Berry's 'Roll Over Beethoven'). It's aimed at fairly advanced players I suppose, but you may find it useful if you'd like to play some of those bluesy style licks. Here's a link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2fbe32VhKh7d9E The string bends are much easy on electric guitar than acoustic guitar.

Hi Jez, I'm loving these tutorials I bought your book I think its great to see chords and lyrics for each song but would've been even better if it showed the strumming pattern for each song. I'm trying to play Memphis Tennesse and Twenty flight rock. Thanks G

Thanks very much Gordon! I'm glad you like my tutorials. And thanks for the book purchase! I deliberately didn't specify any particular strumming for any of the songs, as there's really no single way of playing them. Rock 'n' roll is a very flexible musical genre. For example, Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran and Jerry Lee Lewis all covered Little Richard and Chuck Berry songs, but they all played them differently to the original recordings, and differently from each other. Many guitarists will use two or more different strumming within a song as they switch between different parts of the song (e.g., changing from a verse to a chorus, to an instrumental break, etc.). Also, I didn't want to assume that all of the guitarists using the songbook would wish to strum chords -- some might wish to play rock 'n' roll riffs, such as those I teach in my tutorials in place of the open chords. However, when I play 'Memphis Tennessee' with open chords, I mostly use strumming pattern #4 (on page 3 of the songbook). When I play 'Twenty Flight Rock', I usually play it using riffs, but if I use open chords, I mostly use strumming pattern #3. I hope that helps a little - Jez 😊

Hello Jez do you do a video where you run through one of the actual song sheets in your book as written if not that would be great Rich
@RocknRollSongbook
@RocknRollSongbook 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich. Yes, I've been planning to do something like that. Until I do, if you browse around my channel you'll find lots of songs that are played with the same chords and arrangements as those in the songbook. I may not always play them with open chords, but you should be able to use the songbook to strum along with me. Here are some examples: - Chuck Berry's 'Rock and Roll Music': kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmPceZR6bLigZqs - Little Richard's 'Tutti Frutti': kzbin.info/www/bejne/f3rYgqaMgJ2djbc - Buddy Holly's 'That'll Be The Day': kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5SQmXiimqiiibc Let me know how you get on - Jez

@@RocknRollSongbook I am indeed Jez. All my late Grandparents too! I'm 63 and have started a "Shadows" band, not a tribute band 'cause we are not ever going to have all the gear to emulate Hank and the boys like some bands do. It would be nice to put some vocal tunes in too and this Rock n roll would fit nicely.( just need a singer amongst us!). You are a great singer as well a cool guitarist.
