When listening to my friend ramble on about her character backstories and her real life, I'm genuinely interested, but I don't tend to emote, if that makes sense. She could be explaining the climax of her written stories and I'd be excited but I'd keep a straight face or even look bored (even if I'm not). I dont know if that's normal or not but uhh... yeah. So yeah, uh, I 'fake' smile a lot but like her genuinely and she's one of the few friends that I truly trust and feel like I could vent to or just be close to 'myself' without being judged so no ill will there
@TheFirstManticore4 жыл бұрын
@@flare_studios. I am somewhat the same. Often I do not show the emotions I feel, and this can actually be a problem sometimes. And often I don't recognize someone else's emotion by facial expression. So I think this is a good approach on your part. If you have any doubt, ask your friend how she feels about it, and if she doesn't understand, explain it to her. You may have heard of Asperger's syndrome, a form of mild autism. People with autism, though they have feelings the same as anybody else, often have trouble expressing them or recognizing the emotions of others. Yet you can tell them how you feel, and they can tell you how they feel; and this is a great help. I am not saying that you have autism, or that I do [nobody ever told me so]. But the principle is the same; words can sometimes make up for a lack of facial expression. Or then again, somebody who knows you very well may understand perfectly because they are used to you.

About #4... I was raised in a very abusive home and was forced to “change my mood” to satisfy my abuser. Now that I am an adult, I am capable of switching from very sad, to “professional” when at work or in public. I had to develop this ability while growing up to survive whichever crisis I was thrown into. So yes, fake nice people do that, but not everyone who does that is a fake nice person.

While my circumstances weren't as bad as yours, I did grow up relatively isolated and withdrawn- it made me feel like a weirdo and a failure constantly. So over time, I just kind of learned how to switch off how I feel about certain things so I didn't feel like shit 24/7, and can switch on a dime from sympathetic and kind to cold and critical when the situation calls for it. So yeah, while I'm definitely not faking being nice as I generally try to be, I know how to turn it off whenever I deem necessary

Someone asked me about their experiences with being trans and coming out. I told them my experience and how I dealt with it, and tried to give them ideas about what they should do if something happened. I'd smile as bright as i could, be that cheery happy-go-lucky girl in front of everyone and offering my "help" whenever i could. I'd only offer "help" when i don't have anything to lose and helping doesnt cause a problem for me. And i do those stuff like planning ahead in the day how i'm going to act towards this specific person because i want this thing out of him. Most of the time, i want them to either do me a favour or accompany me somewhere because i used to be hella' scared of being alone. If anything else, i feel like i can relate to at least 80% of those signs mentioned in the video :[ If it helps, the last few vudeos in my history is all about how to get people to listen to you, how to change people's minds, how to gain other's respects and similar titles.

People here say "just be honest" but it sounds like that's meant to be simple. Like "JUST be honest! I am very accepting of the truth." But you aren't the one they are trying to interact with, and a lack of trust and security means for them it feels safer to ghost the friend than to be attacked for being horrible or further burdening the friend. It's a similar mentality to suicide, but they just stop at killing the relationship. Ghost. So yeah. Not simple, unfortunately.

Ghosting is an irresponsible way to act in healthy relationships. In adolescence, it can be moreso detrimental, as people who are not fully emotionally matured are likely to react disproportionately to it and assume the worst (I’m being ignored, I’m unwanted! They think I’m annoying,), which creates tension and cultivates resentment or self-esteem issues on both sides. If you care enough about someone, you must have the courage to be honest with them and tell them that you will not always be available. Be reassuring that it isn’t their fault. If they are a true friend then they will understand and be supportive of you. If they do not understand this, or do not empathize with your condition (be it introversion, disability, SAD/GAD, etc) then they are not the type of friend you will want in your life for the long term. Do not be afraid to let people know directly when you are struggling or need alone time. Not only will it improve your social skills but it will show you who your true friends are.

For anybody interested in subjects like this I recommend a book called The Four Agreements. The author talks about the way people treat you or what they think about you-the thought from the Toltec (an ancient spiritual set of beliefs) it blew me away what the author stated how you should feel when people say something bad or good about you or to you. It has made me not care what others think be it bad or good (as much as humanely possible) & to only care about how you view yourself! Assumption is another thing! Wow! How I could’ve saved myself some serious drama when i was younger if i knew to never assume! For some reason this video reminded me of this book & those 2 subjects in particular. Just thought I’d share. It’s not a religious book by any means but more a book of the soul or spirit & of self

They want you to come to their house for a party because they can control who enters and who they put out. Their generosity is always tethered to some ulterior motive that you are unaware of at the time when you accept their generosity. A warning sign can also be if someone treats almost everyone else in their life poorly and expresses a cruel hatred towards the majority of people for just existing, but is sweet as pie to you. Those are dangerous people to be close to. If something doesn't add up and doesn't make sense about their kindness, keep a careful distance. Something to do when something seems off about someone is to pay attention to the claims that people make about themselves. Don't point out any of their contradictory statements about themselves and their actions, just make a mental note of it, because those are people to be really careful around as well. Ghosting is usually a huge indicator of depression, or that person's stress in their life burning them out. Don't always assume they are ghosting unless you see them doing a bunch of stuff with other people all the time and not with you and they just ignore you. Social media can be very misleading about what a person is really going through. If someone doesn't respond or have any interest in you, then move on and wait for them to make a move. I am usually the friend that checks in on people, I maintain many one sided friendships unfortunately. So many people just don't know how to care about others and appreciate them with equal effort. Something to ask yourself is maybe you have been too reliant on them maintaining the friendship and being the one to reach out. That isn't always the case, but if that's not something you know how to do then friendships will eventually fade away. Honestly, most of my friends are like that and are clueless about it. At least with me. One hard truth in life is that we all know too many people for each of them to hold top priority. Sometimes I message people and they are actually really glad that I reached out because they were insanely lonely but don't know how to be the one to say hello first, especially if they're feeling down. When you meet someone who genuinely cares about you (and I mean really ACTUALLY cares) and has nothing to gain from it other than mutual friendship, those are the people to keep in your life and to make important.

As someone who's faking being nice because of major depression: 1. Derealization: "zoning out". The smile remains, the eyes are fixed and look empty. It can look scary, because it literally looks like someone is having a "bug" in the system. In reality they are emotionally overwhelmed till the point of shutting down from incoming impulses temporarily. They appear to suddenly wake up again. 2. Rapid change in facial expressions: always pleasing, so always going with the flow of the conversation. You drop your tone in voice, so does my smile. You smile, I smile. Note how we never express an opposite reaction of what you'd expect. 3. Showing interest, but not listening: could be because zoning out or to maintain friend status. Yes, the last one sounds cold, but it's basically your morality speaking. You have to be friendly to your friends. Even though you don't feel like it. So you play it. This might be why the person forgets the things you've said, they weren't listening accurately enough to remember. They were just busy keeping the conversation going. 4.Rarely wants to meet: always excuses. If depression gets worse enough they'll be nice in your face, but never let something hear of them on social media. Or respond really late. 5.Seems to have multiple personalities in different social contexts: basically switching masks. Depending on who's in the group there may be a shift in interests, tone of voice, facial expressions, vocabulary and gestures. He's still nice, but seems like a totally different person than yesterday.

Sounds like a lot of work to keep up all that fakeness. It has to break you down at some point, so perhaps you should talk to a counselor? You may also need to take a sabbatical for awhile to discover imbalances in your life causing depression. Just a suggestion. Good luck.
@James-ck4bg5 жыл бұрын
@Sky Walker it's not healthy. You don't wanna end up in isolation, which ironically happens anyway. It's exactly like you say, because it drains energy. I have talked to a counselor, even psychiatrist. They can't say for sure, but suspect a neurobiological disturbance in my brains, because of inherited genes. I also have ADD, which also counts for a risk factor. So in a way it's logic I ended up with it. Now I try to cope with it as much as possible. I don't want medication because I suffer badly from side effects. Also the reason why my ADD remains untreated, but I do get cognitive behavioral therapy for it. What helped me personally more was working out regularly. Especially running. For some reason depression makes me love the pain. Furthermore diet choices: green tea for the l-theanin which basically is a natural antidepressant, valerian root tea for sleep, no coffee, no sugar, no energy drinks, nor soda, etc. Thanks for your advice :)
@skywalker66485 жыл бұрын
@@James-ck4bg Well, I once heard you have to sometimes isolate in order to elevate. Btw, yes meds can be a mess to deal with. Herbal supplements like Valerian and Vitamins like calcium/magnesium, vitD, B vitamins, St.Johns Wort are all way better along with cardio exercise as it sounds like you are doing than the meds. It also depends on how "major" your depression really is, I guess. Some really do need the "meds" temporarily or for life. Either way, Good luck to you and you're welcome!

I would recommend figuring out _WHY_ someone is being fake nice before writing them off. I’m fake nice a lot of times, but it’s just because I’m not happy but I don’t want to place that burden on the checkout person or family friend, it’s from a place of insecurity, not anything against the other person. Sometimes it’s easier to pretend to be nice and happy than to be honest.

I now a fake nice person who is extremely popular: she establishes common ground by pretending to agree, she only denigrates herself to ingratiate through false vulnerability. Once she gains power over people she adopts a false sense of care she speaks of others in derisive terms, sarcastic backstabbing & backhanded compliments to make it seem humorous. While smiling & sympiphising in direct interaction, she gossips nastily behind their back. She uses ghosting as a power tool to manipulate others into submission with excuses like "No problem, I'm just busy" or "I was left on my own to do everything". She is always the hero & victim in her self delusion of fake compassion - "I had to cope with their depression. She believes her own deciets as being justified truths. She is a collector & discarder of people, saying old friends have become odd. It gives her a sense of power to have control over so many superficial relationships that are believed to have a deeper integrity. In truth she only cares how her identity is affected, although in truth she lacks true substance. She talks constantly of grand plans which never come to fruition. Sounds like the behaviour of a narcissist.

I think there are different types of ghosting. 1) Someone ghosting you but then repairing in you're life when they need something. 2) People cutting you off due to personal reason like perhaps mismatch between your personalities.

3) Cutting someone's off because he/she's untrustful and you know what they were doing behind your back

I don't know if I'm nice or fake I kept telling my school mates that I'm not that nice Because they kept telling me that I'm nice They say that even if they didn't have much I would treat them evenly, They say I'm the only person they know that notices them and accepts them(I'm an honor student and a daughter of a teacher) They say that I'm nice because I help them whenever they don't understand something in school. And I tell them that its just who I am and I always warn them not to do something to me that would piss me off cause they don't really know me......they say I sometimes act weird...... Well in 1 day I have different moods I sometimes become happy and energetic and just a moment past I'm silent........
