Now now... don't be snooty. Every barspoon is different and sometimes it just doesn't feel quite right when you stir with the "correct" end. The important point is to know WHEN to stir and WHEN to shake. That's what we should be praising our bartenders for doing correctly.

Nice. Definitely gonna try to put Port in my Old Fashioned now (finally more use for that bottle). My significant other loves the Whisky Smash, but likes to do a twist on it by replacing some (or all) of the sugar with Blood Orange Liqueur. Plays well with a blended scotch as a base instead of Bourbon. Cheers!

The way I make a Casino is first of all with old tom gin which it is always supposed to be. Also I use very small amounts of Maraschino and lemon, only 5ml each to 50ml of old tom gin. It's a great cocktail for showcasing the flavour of old tom.
@RuairiGilles6 жыл бұрын
Nice, but unfortunately Old Tom isn't that easy for everyone to find, and you can compensate for the sweetness of Old Tom with a bit more Maraschino.

The Whiskey Smash recipe which I use is muddle about 2-3 lemon wedges with the bourbon whiskey 45ml (rye bulleit I found was the best or any rye to be preferred but you can get away with most bourbon whiskies) and 30ml of simple syrup shake and double strain over ice half of shaker slap in 4-5 mint leaves and stir in and then top up with the rest from the shaker and garnish with a mint sprig - apparently the Whiskey Smash was DeGroff's (?) flip on the Mint Julep I'm 90% certain it was DeGroff as you mention :) EDIT: im pretty sure one of the original recipes for a mint julep used a lemon wedge and mint sprig as a garnish and DeGroff muddled the lemon wedges instead and came up with the Whiskey Smash
