I know it’s a commercial organisation, but I must admit that Strava has transformed positively my cycling these last few years. Not just the relentless measurement and comparison, but the sharing of my ‘sporting life’ with many distant friends. Sometimes new tech is just wonderful.

Fairly certain this is possible through the clubs functionality. The only hook is only club members will be notified about it, though it can made searchable publically.

One of my favorites, is the “Flyby” feature. You can only access this on a computer, but it shows you your route and the riders you passed while riding or those that passed you. It’s really cool when you’re out riding and you know you’re killing it, but there’s really no proof. Well… now there is! I like to view after my most aggressive rides.

Strava is okay for tour planning - but far from perfect. Komoot is 10 times better. Example: When I used Strava to calculate routes for my road bike it send me over gravel paths for 4km straight, even tho there was a road nearby (I found out later). Also Strava send me over the most horrible cobblestones I have ever witnessed. Komoot on the other hand knows about EVERY street and even sends me around longer cobble stone sections automaticly. Once When I was routplaning I was courious why it planed the route in such a funny way at one point. I scrolled in and it told me "to avoid cobble section". I was a very welcome surprise.

I’m surprised you didn’t mention the ”Flyby” feature, it always surprises me how many people don’t know about it, and it’s great - it’s like a video playback in real time of your ride, and who you saw on it! Watch out for the Strava route planner thing, always check what it’s planned for you - it has a nasty habit of sending you across bogs and moorland and private land, just when you least expect it! It uses the “heatmaps” feature to determine what’s suitable (rather than the road network) - and it isn’t always!

This was a great video, I use Strava everyday and I still learned a couple things! The finger drawing that turns into an actual route seems like magic! I do have a couple comments though. Can we buy Simon a phone case and new phone? Am I the only one who cringes at the sight of a spider cracked phone screen? And “Kudos”, I spent too long focusing on the video tying to figure out what a “quedos” was until I figured out you meant “Koodose”! Other than that, thanks!
