When I moved in with my girlfriend she had two older mini dachshunds. Very sweet and well behaved. The male gets very excited around mealtime so it's necessary to use a special bowl that slows down his food aggression. We also acquired a young standard rescue dachshund who is just adorable. Sweetest cuddle bug ever. He totally bonded with me. I've always been a cat person although l love all animals. Definitely a doxie fan now.

The humping thing is sooooo true though, oh my god. The funniest thing is that my doxie only does it EVERYTIME he gets a treat, every. damn. time. He got a biscuit, or like some liver paste he loves, he will finish eating and go straight to his pillow and have at it. He never humped us or anyone, it's only that specific pillow and after a treat lmao

Mine is the same. He only ever humps his old puppy bed. Couldn't be more thankful that's the only thing he humps, although I wish he would stop dragging it into the living room and humping it directly in front of the TV. He likes an audience, I guess...

I love my doxies. I’ve four girls Bella, lady bug, Bethany, spirit. They all love to lay near the fireplace during the winter. My first doxie was named jack and he lived to be 18.

OMG I laughed at this. It brought back so many memories. When I was married we took in my husband's daughter's male long haired dachshund. The dog ate several pairs of my husband's underwear. Hubby was mad even after I pointed out the underwear should have been tossed long ago (hubby wanted to be the one to decide that.) As for humping, they're never too old. I got my dog a female friend when he was around 13 - boy did he have a field day until she finally told him to stop. Little old lech was in paradise for a couple months. I had to put him to sleep in November at 16 years old. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.

Im so glad I found your channel! I have a 3 year old short haired minature boy. We had him at 8 months old and often had white dots on my clothes...regularly wetwiped the sofa...( we have blankets over everything). Just about to get a red minature boy ( born 3 days ago). We had originally wanted a girl from same breeder but mother nature provided boys. SO i will be having 18 months of spotty clothes again!😄

Thanks for the video. My boy is 4 months and I've noticed many of the things you mentioned. Good to know it's normal. Do you have any articles to recommend on waiting to neuter and IVDD? My vet seems clueless about this. I'm from the US and most of what I read about this issue is from the UK.

My grandpuppy is a mini male and he is the sweetest little guy ever. He, honestly, has none of these bad traits. He does love to give you lots of licks on the face, but not after he's licked himself or a friend. The underwear thing is true with male dogs and it's either gender of underwear. Yuck!!!

Im glad i came across this channel, its quite relatable and it helps. I am 100% new to owning a dog full stop. A miniature chocolate / tan smooth haired doxie is what i lusted after and went for. One tip that i can give that has almost fixed every issue that ive ever had with my daschie. And thats establishing myself as alpha in my dogs eyes, this is crucial. I know this now, but i didn't a month ago and i wished i did. He came to us fresh at 12 weeks old. But it nearly came to an end not long ago when he just became too much. oh boy What a problem pup he was. He was so bloody naughty to the point of stupidity. The humping of me, the mrs and her mates was actually quite priceless, but totally not funny in any way 😆 Stealing socks, garments and other things of interest like the keys to a 23 plate electric car. Chewing of windowsills, rugs and remote controls (but due to teething i understand this is involuntary) although he has £50 worth of chew toys scattered around. The constant peeing and pooing inside the house. There was poop Under the bed, poop left behind doors & poop right in the place where you dont look and you end up stepping on leaving you disgusted. Even tho he goes out every 45 mins to 1hr religiously. The rainy Welsh days are a huge factor in his toilet habits too... if its raining outside forgettabout it. The livingroom rug is the only place on my doxies mind. If theres a dog walking by thats bigger than a fiat 500 he will try and start a scrap with it. Seat stealing Food begging when his bowl is untouched. He used to be overpowering and intrusive, he will dart across a room, knocking over candles and ornaments just to get to me... he would even sit on an ashtray if it meant being close to his objeced desire. The only thing that snapped him out of this bad behaviour was establishing myself as alpha and it felt horrible. Positive reinforcement works well like treats etc but its not 100% foolproof. Youve got to loose your absolute rag when hes acting naughty. This is necessary sometimes but always without violence. I read in a puppy training book that the way a pups mum disciplines her pups is to pin them down and snarl at them. I tried this with boris one day after he pooped inside after being outside and it works a treat... i picked him up. Layed him down on his side and held his shoulders down and screamed the absolute place down while pointing at the poo. After 30 secs he got up, shit himself and ran away. 2 more pin downs later and hes now bloody brilliant. Hes obedient. Now goes toilet on command, He now knows that my happy voice means good things and my angry voice means bad things and hes such a happy dog because of the experience... sorry its long reading but hope it helps someone.

This is ABSOLUTELY not the way to work with a dog. Pinning them down ‘the mum does not pin their dogs down’ I’m wondering what book states this. Establishing alpha is EXTREMELY outdated information as dogs work as packs not with a dominant alpha. You will end up with a dog that bites you later in life or even sooner if you do this. Quick fixes are always going to cause long terms issues and I hope you got that from my other videos. Please rethink your methods. Here if you need me

A lot of these problems are related to Unneutered males. If you plan on fixing yours of at a young age, most of these problems you won’t run into. I’ve had my male dachshund since he was 8 weeks and he’s the most obedient best dog I’ve ever had. He does get the first one when he has to pee so thank you for clarifying what those are! Anyways enjoyed the vid, I believe it helps a lot with people who don’t plan on fixing their dogs right away or at all. Very helpful

Dachshunds shouldn’t be neutered until 18 months ideally due to the increased risk of IVDD when neutering early :)

So glad you said that humping has nothing to do with sexual arousal. I have a spayed female that humps, while my males never do. She humps to show just general happiness or to show favourites -- like this is my favourite toy or this is my favourite human. Before she was spayed she did this too; but when she got "in the mood for love" she acted totally different; and no humping was exhibited. My males never showed humping behaviour for any reason, either before or after neutering. Also, it is she, and not my males, who will eat my underwear.

I know both males and females regarding clothing....when I would be at work, they'd come into my bedroom, grab my clothes from my bed, and make a nice round circular bed to lay in. That's because it's got my scent on them, and they feel more comfortable on them.

Have a male neutered. But when he left his leg too closed to chain link fence . In winter cold weather. He get hurt and stuck . Warm water helps if I am quick.

Personally I prefer females but I wouldn’t say it’s because either are calmer as every dog is different. I just find females easier to read and train

Hi..I am watching this video the second time and get to learn something always.Coupd you please help in suggesting how to get rid of his eating habits for unwanted things around the house as well aa toilet training.I am almost failing to train him.He pees all the time besides going outdoors before and after his two meals plus in the afternoon walk.Really need help on that...

Both of these can be resolved with limiting access. Pop some gates up around the house and only allow him in the room you’re in :) that what he can’t get to things he shouldn’t and you can keep a closer eye for toilet cues.

@@lennysixdachshunds1069 I agree with you 100% LENNY & SIX DACHSHUNDS. That is exactly what I have always done. I never allow my dachshunds to roam freely about the house. We have 2 baby gates up that keep our doxies in the same room with us. We live in a ranch style home. No stairs, except to the basement and we have a door to that which remains closed. We have ramps instead of steps to and from one of the entrances to our home(put there for myself) which makes it better for them too.

My dapple male always humps my younger mixed dachshund. I have a 5 breed male 34%rottweiler/29%dachshund/ 19 % Australian cattle dog/12% retriever/5.7% miniature pincher dachshund. Jax, my pure bred another dapple, always jumps Marty. It doesn’t stop usually. But Marty being the more outgoing one, just takes it 🤣.

Congrats on very informative videos, I appreciate it a lot. I have female shorthair (18 months) and new member male longhair (4 months). He is still not 100 percent housebroken, but what is interesting is that right before he falls asleep in his crate (only in the night) he pees just a bit on his blanket (after he already did his business outside). Is this marking or something? Do we have to correct it or is it something normal for males to do?

It wouldn’t be marking if he’s falling asleep and they often refuse to mark their own bed. Does he get anxious in the crate? X

LENNY & SIX DACHSHUNDS he isn’t thrilled about it, of course, but the crate is next to my bed and he usually just makes a bit of grumpy noises and falls asleep, knowing I am close. He doesn’t seem to be in stress really, so I wonder what his behaviour means. The girl was happy in her crate during her process of potty training, never peed in it, now she sleeps in her bed next to mine and boys crate. 🤔

LENNY & SIX DACHSHUNDS yes, it is really strange, I can’t find the reason for it 🤔. As soon as I put him in, he does it. I changed his crate for smaller one today and with no smell and blanket. Will see how he will handle that in the evening. I’ll let you know. Maybe it’s just some phase of adaptation (he has been with us only for a month now). Thanks for considering with me 🙂. In fact Dachshund nearly no pumping after they met female dog, I had a male Dachshund for 14 years and 2 weeks, it only happened one time after I sent him to the dog salon and met the female dog. My Dachshund was gone on last December, I am missing him very much so I find another one to be a companion with me again.

Six Dachshunds?! Fuck me. They're cute, but one is enough. Funny story: when I was still living with my parents, they had four cats and one Dachshund. Out of the five animals, the Dachshund was the most high-maintenance pet of the bunch! Lol 😂

My boy doxie is 9 years old, and never experienced any of this. Maybe getting him neutered at 6 months made a difference? Idk.

Dachshund's are like people, they have their own personalities. My grandparents owned two that I knew, the first one humped EVERYTHING. Second one never seen him do it once.
