If you take water away a few hours before bed and then take them out right before bed and then put them in crate to sleep you and then right away in the morning you won't have those middle of the night potty break

Do you not get thirsty during the night and wake up in the middle of the night for a quick glass of water? So why should we take that away from dogs? They get thirsty at night too.
@savannamackie37204 жыл бұрын
@@KiranSingh-es2ot I mean sure but as long as they are hydrated throughout the day it will be ok. It's just so that the first couple of weeks you can teach them not to go at night and also not in their crate or house. :)

Do not remove water. Period. This can cause dehydration and other issues. This is NOT how you potty train a puppy.
@KiranSingh-es2ot4 жыл бұрын
@@savannamackie3720 you can't train them to NOT go at night. Puppies that are young can only hold in their bladder for 3-4 hours depending on how many months they are (eg. 2 month old puppy can hold their bladder for 3 hours). So no, do not leave them thirsty at night. Just do your job and wake up and take responsibility! You will feed a baby at any time of the night depending on how hungry they are..so do the same for your puppy and give them water when they need it
@the_wanderer34 жыл бұрын
Quick note: I have a 2 year old beagle mix. When we first got her we made sure she had a drink before she went to bed then took her out to go potty. We put her in her crate at night (and still do she feels safe in it) And she had no water all night and still never has water at night. In the morning we would take her out of the crate and outside then back inside where water was avalible right outside her crate. It IS possible for a puppy to go the whole night with no water. ESPECIALLY if you play with them close to bed time so they're tired out. Puppies sleep ALOT and have alot of growing to do. My dog has never had an accident in her crate. And not giving her access to water over night has done her no harm at all as she has water avalible to her the rest of the day that gets refilled often. I know it's a controversial topic on if dogs should have access to water or not at night. But aslong as your puppy is properly hydrated they CAN last the night with no water. When my dog as a puppy she often went most of the day without drinking (she had access to water. She was asleep for the majority of the day and all night especially as a 8 week old)

I moved it to our family room where we watch TV and hang out the most and I actually got in the crate and shut the door so he could see it's ok to go in. I have a cat (had two actually, but one got old and died) and I think cats are the best pets (for me at least). They are cute and hilarious, they want to cuddle with you and talk to you. And they are just so little work - they use the toilet on their own (you just need to show them once) and you don't need to discipline them because they do what they want anyway 😆 I love how independent they are. The only downside is that you can't take them anywhere because they like to stay at their place.

Your so lucky! My puppy went to sleep at 9 and woke up at 1. She’s such a handful 😂!
@jadeproductions4 жыл бұрын
@@seokiia5756 Yes I'm very lucky, she is the best dog ever. :) When she was younger I developed this routine: Before She went to bed I would brush her coat & teeth and put her to bed, at the same time everyday. I think dogs benefit a lot from routines. After a while, when I started brushing her in the evening, she would already fall asleep on my lap because the brain knows whats coming. It's a bit like the pavlov effect, where the dogs start drooling when they hear the bell. With a 'bedtime routine' the brain starts releasing sleep hormones at the same time everyday and together with some actions like brushing, the brain knows it's time to sleep. Maybe a little tip: If you pup wakes you up at night, put her outside for the 'buisness' and put her back in her sleeping spot. NO playing, NO talking (If you are still potty training, praising is allowed) and put her straight back. Don't give any attention and ignore her, go back to bed. I don't know how old she is but older puppies should be able to sleep more than 8 hours at once. They need to learn because in the nest they would all wake each other up at night to do their thing and play. Puppy needs to learn new routines. Goodluck :) Sorry for the novel lol

As someone who has grown up with dogs (currently have 3, but total of 7 dogs my whole life), a way to help with the potty issue is put a bell on the door leading to the backyard or if you live in an apartment the front door. As well as if they are awake, the first few weeks while potty training take them out every half hour to hour, and then slowly increase the time. Let the puppy sleep, and as soon as they are up take them outside to go to the bathroom. Also please never use potty pads, most dogs think its okay to go in the house with the use of those. If you are crate training, and that is where they sleep at night or when home alone, make sure that the space is big enough for them to be able to turn around, but not to be able to walk. If the area is more for just fixing their sleeping position, they won't want to go to the bathroom in the crate and will wait until they are taken outside. As they become more reliable and potty trained then giving them a bigger space is ideal. this is for anyone looking at getting a puppy, especially with quarantine going on.

Yes! Puppies are amazing. But if you are going to be the only one taking care of your little pup (what I mean by that is taking care of your pup is taking him on walks, taking him out to use the bathroom, playing with him, picking up his poop, giving him baths, brushing his hair, training him, giving him food, giving him water, cleaning out his bowls, cleaning up his accidents etc. I said his cause my puppy is a his) then I really hope you are not busy because they do require high maintenance. And don’t leave them alone for to long because they can get separation anxiety or boredom. That’s why me and my brother both take care of my 8 month old mini poodle that we got 4 months ago. My cat's called Logan, he just turned 3. I adopted him in early September and I don't know how we'd be getting through self-isolation without him! He's our biggest source of entertainment throughout the day!!

Ugh I remember being a zombie when I got my first puppy (I have never not had a dog in my home, but my boy was MY first dog that I was responsible for). He is almost 2 now, but we are picking up our second puppy in a week, so I am trying to refresh my memory lmao

Ishika Verma I got my puppy 2/25 and I believe she stopped completely crying at bed time about a week later. She still wakes up early though (6-6:30am). It’s so hard but it does get better as long as you do things the right way. Since she’ll be three months tomorrow, we wake up every 4 hours to take her out to go potty and most of the time we have to wake her up to go

Me my brother and my dad are getting a dog today! We’re so excited but sadly I’m having to go back to college in March but thankfully my dad will be at home most of the time and my relatives near a few houses away so they can look after her if need be. We’re nervous for the journey but so so excited!

You are doing great!!! Just remember not to leave stuffies in her kennel unattended or at night. Some pups are great with stuffies very young, then can destroy and ingest during teething. We had a period where our Mastiff had no stuffies, now he’s full grown and loves his “babies” and is so gentle. Enjoy your little sweetie💖

Yep, 100% right on everything, but the therapy part is one that is not as talked about. I got my first dog a year ago, and I am so glad that I did, especially now with the isolation of Covid-19. I am a widow who lives alone and could easily see myself getting depressed after a month of isolation, but my dog keeps my mind and time well occupied. That said, a dog does require a lot of time and attention, which is easier to deal with if there’s two of you. And one more thing that I haven’t seen talked about anywhere is the bonding process, it is a process. I was under the mistaken impression that it would be love at first sight for both of us, but it wasn’t, although there was an attraction at first sight on my part. For me, and I think for my dog as well, true love developped over time. It took about 10 or 11 months of getting to know each other, and learning to live with each other, before I could look at him and feel absolute love for him.

A tip for when you go out is a few hours before instead of leaving water put ice cubes in there bowl so they stay hydrated but are not gulping down water so it makes them not need to pee as much

Hi! I'm new to your channel and am LOVING it! Cashew is adorable!! I'm 32 and have always had dogs around me, but I'm finally ready (and contemplating) to get a dog. So when I saw the title of your video I had to watch it. If she starts chewing on harder surfaces she might benefit from a Nylabone...Puppies will sometimes seek out hard (sometimes wood) surfaces to chew while teething if they don't have some sort of bone. They can help strengthen and clean their teeth, easier to digest as well. It's the only type of "bone" I would give my dog. Can't wait to see her grow!!!

Same, but Im not gonna push it bc I finally just persuaded them to get me a share horse, so it would be so ungrateful and rude to keep asking for more. Plus they would never bc it was literally in their wedding vows that we would never get a pet. I can still dream tho 😂

If you're in quarantine make sure you don't get a puppy, puppies need to socialize with lots of people and other dogs you can't do this in quarantine!

the lack of sleep was so anxiety-inducing for me I actually was incapable of handling it. I attached an x-pen to my puppy's crate and went against all training protocol and left puppy pads outside her crate in the pen. LUCKILY everything worked out lol she stopped peeing overnight at around 4 months and doesn't have accidents anymore. I'm actually glad I did it.
