Hindi won’t help you everywhere. There are like 14 different official languages spoken in India and they all have a lot of dialects. And don’t cuddle the animals if you can resist. You Never can tell if they are aggressiv or sick, believe me I had the situations. Another tip: don’t drink expensive water, but coconuts. They hydrate you and they are cheap and tasty. And one last tip...When you ask an Indian for a direction they will always give you an answer, even if they don’t know where the heck the place is you want to get to, so better trust your map.

Something I'd like to add to Number 3. Hindi will not work in Southern India, where I would suggest sticking to English. Since the local languages are very different from Hindi and some locals in southern states also have contempt towards the language for historical reasons. (But since you're a tourist, they'll let it slide) Also, for number 6: I have never haggled in my life, but I would suggest every foreigner to haggle, as in my experience, people will very likely try to rip you off if you don't. I've seen cab drivers and shopkeepers charge 10x the actual price just because the customer was a foreigner who didn't know the standard.

It’s more due to tip# 8 and other being Indians are too polite to oblige and speak to acquaintance when they pass by them. Most often the neighbourhood uncle or auntie or friend will be more interested to speak. So stand up and mention politely that you shall catch up with them soon as someone is already waiting 😊
