I bought my first two budgies a year ago and now I have 12 of them, and they actually taught me how to make them happy. If you go to one of the pet stores like Petco and Petsmart you will find everything you need to take care of your budgies. I find just good warm vinegar is great in cleaning the cage and perches. When I go to grocery shopping like most parents, I look for foods they like to eat. I find chopped up fruits and veggies and many package goods like cereals and crackers make them happy. When I make breakfast I make them scrabbled eggs without butter and I throw in the shells. None of my birds like taking baths, so I bought a spray bottle and give them showers. They like that better. Vinegar also is great for the bottom of the cage and healthier than the bottled stuff and also cheaper. Most of the Parakeets food I buy is already packaged and sold with healthy seeds/vegetables/fruits including treats.

Also a good tip: keep lots of toys handy. Have 3-4 in their cage at once, and switch the toys around often to keep your bird entertained. Mirrors can be a good option for short periods of time, or when you will have to leave the house for a few hours, as they can keep a budgie busy for a long time. However, it is believed that mirrors can cause damage to their brain, as the birds believe this is another bird, but the reflection will not give your bird the affection and attention they need from other birds.

i had a friend who got 2 budgies and kept them in a small, round topped cage with no toys. they died after 3 years. to be honest i thought this was normal until I did research. they were robbed of at least 7 years. i'm very glad i know more now, so i don't make the same mistakes they did

I have a large flight cage for my 2 male budgies. I let them out after lunch and they return on their own now. I have toys inside the cage and I have recently bought a multi perch to fix on the top of their cage. They are fed budgie seed , millet and broccoli , apples , grapes, lettuce , dandelion leaves etc. They seem to be happy and play alot. I need a cover around bottom of the cage to stop it flying everywhere.

I bought one and then I bought two more :-(. I was looking at getting a little Conure but I slowed down and just trying to get to know these birds. I think birds are crazy, funny Its been almost two months for KB and almost a month for the other 2. We are getting better they still don't want me to touch them too much but they will let me feed them so its slow. They are starting to play with the toys more so its more interesting every day.

Look at a "critter nation" single or double cage, bars are close so cats can't get paws in, and doors are huge for easy in and out access! I know they are ferret cages, but I swear by them!
