What has me saying I'll never switch is the fact that it is giving up too much control to MS. It is a big bundle of spyware, and it now has the capability of censoring you. It can even delete content you own that it doesn't like. Since I only need Windows for my tax program, and it's available as a cloud based service accessible from anything, I'll use the cloud based program when Win 10 is no longer an option. I absolutely hate all cloud based services, but I'll choose the cloud over Win 11.

I'm riding it out, I might go back to Windows 7 or mess around with Linux, they have a Linux that acts like Windows 11, what's funny about that is, people are complaining that it looks too much like Windows 11, Windowsfx there is a free version and a paid version cost 36 dollars ( something like that) This Linux is fused with a Microsoft environment and bloat wear like Whatsapp and Skype, all the fun garbage.

Menu Bar-it's designed to drive you to MS goods and services. That is microtransactions by any other name. Advertising on File Explorer and such as well will also happen. You can bet that MS looks at Apple's locked garden of an OS and drools. So I foresee a day when Window S mode is the default. Only use apps from there-period. No opt out. Removal of features-like I always put my task bar at the top of any monitor and extra steps for right click context menus. I was able to use Rufus and put Win 11 on two unsupported laptops. a ThinkPad e858. CPU was one gen too old. That's it. Also a ThinkPad x250. Both machines worked fine. The unsupported part is artificial and that angers me.

For me, it is the hardware requirements. Microsoft is encouraging the obsolescence of stable working hardware for what. More landfill? Do you remember the days when an operating system had to be lean and efficient so most of the processor and memory resources could be used by the applications? Those were the days.

Microsoft wants people to buy new computers...at a time when people are spending less while inflation is high. Microsoft is pushing more telemetry gathering onto their customers...at a time when people are learning what that actually means for privacy (even the non-technical people are questioning it now). Microsoft is making UI changes for the sake of change without convincing people they're needed (taskbar, start menu, settings app, etc.)...at a time when people are more opinionated about it than ever. Microsoft is hiding settings or removing them...at a time when more people are learning about computers than ever before and need to be able to fix what they broke or let someone else fix it for them. Microsoft is forcing customers to tie in to their online ecosystem by forcing people to use a Microsoft account...at a time when Internet access is still spotty and unreliable for millions of people depending on where they live (some even have metered connections) and people aren't too keen about giving Microsoft all their data to begin with given the telemetry controversy. Microsoft updates are a mixed bag and are known to break things...at a time when people really don't want to be bothered with botched forced updates getting in the way of what they want to do on their schedule. Outside of specific software/hardware that only works on Windows, why would anyone want to use it when it doesn't stay out of their way to let people get on their lives? I'm not saying to go to Mac or Linux or ditch the PC/laptop for a tablet/phone per say, but who actually honestly needs Windows outside of specific things that only work with it? Most games work on Linux now without the DRM/anticheat nonsense (which is ethically questionable to begin with). Both Mac and Linux desktops can be preinstalled in such a way that a novice can sit down in front of a running system and click the icon for the browser of their choice and go to town on the Internet without anybody's help. The alternatives for games, software, and hardware options for many tasks (granted not all) do exist and many of them do cover a lot of people's needs. Again, I'm not telling people to dump Windows for Mac or Linux or even a tablet. But I am throwing the question out there for everyone to challenge them: How reliant are you on Windows? Seriously...after considering all the alternative even from using consoles for gaming to alternative software apps. How reliant are you on Windows? This is a time in computing history where I think more people are asking themselves that question than ever before.

When it told me Windows could not boot because the hard drive needed to be replaced, I did as anyone with common sense would do and ignored the Windows diagnosis. Have been happily running Ubuntu for well over a year and am much more satisfied. I don't think I'm ever going back to Windows. I personally am not too crazy about 11, I will hold on to my 2 versions of 10 as long as possible. I already have 1 system with 11 that I really don't like and I barely use it. If Microsoft history remains the same I will hold out until 12 or next version. According to history that version should be a better one. Other than that I will have to learn to adapt. My one and only issue with Microsoft is being forced into things I don't like or want. 11 a polished fancy version of 10 is ok. Some things I like and alot that I don't. My number 1 issue with it is compatibility, mostly with processor types. I have a system that meets every minimum requirement except for processor type and it's an AMD laptop. But it meets core count and speed, go figure. Unfortunately hardware vendors along with software vendors are still playing catch up with all advancements.

Has there been any explanation as to why they are requiring 8 gen cpu and TPM 2.0 ? The question is why? I ran the command tpm.msc on my computers, and on the win 10 system tpm is not initiated but version 1.2, on the win 7 system it is shut down and version 1.2. Obviously we do not need any TPM at all.
@Drottninggatan2017 Жыл бұрын
I have understood now that the cpu requirement is because of that 8th gen intel cpu has tpm built into them. So that is also totally related to TPM. And TPM is used for something called "windows hello" and bitlocker, encryption of the hard drive. Well, most people does not use bitlocker. We do not encrypt our harddrives. And I do not use any "windows hello" at all. The hardware requirement of TPM for windows 11 is a complete farce. It would not help us one bit even if we had TPM. Is there any statistical proof that TPM helps in any way? Does it help against ransome-ware?

Locking away more and more functions while adding more resource consuming "telemetry", just to increase advertising revenue! For non-gamers who don't rely on Office, I am now reccomending older computers be switched to linux Mint ( and getting a significant performance boost in most cases ) instead of buying a new machine with Win 11. Oh that is bad news for me Brian if they are going to clamp down on the OS on unsupported hardware when Windows 10 ends. My old Ivy Bridge my main desktop is running with those bypass conditions and it runs Windows 11 Pro without any problems at all an I fail to see whose security is being compromised by the insistence of there being a TPM chip on the board. My board (Asus P8Z77-L ) has a spot for a TPM module but getting one to fit is impossible I have searched everywhere for one that is a 21pin version and in any case the CPU is also not in their listings and I cannot see there is any alternative that is compatible that would fit onto my board. So I am hoping that Microsoft will soften their approach on such machines even if they state that the operator does so at their own risk as I think my ESET Smart Security and Brave browser will cover my safety needs. As for the taskbar I thought I saw recently a way to make the taskbar wider or narrower just by adjusting the size of the icons on it at least I don't think I was dreaming. For me anyway the taskbar is situated at the bottom is what I like and a taskbar anywhere else to me would look ridiculous and unworkable but that is a purely personal choice I suppose. The Start/open that GUI is not a problem for me I just delete the ones I don't want and add ones I do it isn't rocket science. I agree with you there are a LOT of clicks into settings etc but I have bypassed a lot of what I use the most ie regedit ,command prompt ,Task manager, Snip (old version my pet peeve with 11 is that awful new snipping tool) Disk cleanup, Notepad etc etc by just pinning them to the taskbar! The biggest issue I have with Windows 11, personally, is how mac-like it is. Even just visually, the base design of the OS is a lot closer to what you would've found in MacOS earlier on- reminiscent of BigSur or another of the intel Mac versions. the bloatware, the transition into more 'user friendly' software like apps, and the user exploitation of having all of those privacy settings defaultly enabled and the advertiser stuff too, like... It's a very power-user *unfriendly* OS which makes sense in theory but feels like a huge slap in the face after so long. people were upset when windows 10 *hid* advanced settings that were standard in win7, much less removed them or stripped them down completely like win11 seems to have done. i really want to switch over so that i can stay up to date and knowledgable , but i just really really don't like win 11 that much. i'm really praying that it's a win 8 situation and either it'll get updated down the line to be more usable, or win 12 will release sooner than expected (and be tolerable) so i can just skip win 11 entirely. edit: i forgot about the improved powershell/changes to CMD. the ONE thing from win 11 that i'm jealous of.

You've convinced me Brian not to change, and I know were no longer part of the EU but Im staggered that they and the Trading Standards body that may exist in the US haven't said to MS this isn't acceptable that your bringing out an OS that forces millions of usable PC`s and laptops into landfill. MS should be made to bring out all OS`s that will run on the majority of machines currently in use. Look at all the PC`s in the NHS, look at the cost to the taxpayer of replacing all of those. If they hadn't filled 11 with all this bloatware perhaps 11 would run on the existing PC`s and laptops. The aforementioned EU and American Trading Standards body should INMO look into the `collusion` between MS and companies like Intel/AMD, into forcing us all to buy new machines, surely there must be some illegality in play here!

Just not going to give up on a perfectly good laptop that works fine on Windows 10 even though it's 8 years old and is obviously not compatible Just to let Microsoft harvest more data from me. I have a mini PC and Tower PC that are compatible but may put Linux on he mini and a very cut down version of windows 11 for games i can't run on Linux or MacOS on the tower, Think it's time to dust of the Macbook Pro and iMac and use them for everything else. Just can not afford to update or upgrade.

I have been using Win 7 quite some time until MS allowed to upgrade to Window 10. After Window 10 for few years, I decided to upgrade to Window 11 on one of my PC. After I adapted to Win 11 and got used to it, slowly I upgrade all my laptops and some old PCs to Win 11, leaving 1 or 2 for Win 10. I am happy with Win 11, may be 【WIN 12】 soon ! 。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。。😁😁😁😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍👍

Most all B550 MB's have TPM on them. However, you have to turn in on in bios to get it to pass the hardware test. I do not know why but that feature is turned off by default. Maybe that will change. Going through this hassle I believe this will push me to Linux. I will be testing the paid version of Zorin OS due to it is set up to run windows programs + you can make a virtual machine to run the ones you can not get to work with Zorin Linux.

I think Windows is trying to make every electronic device compatible, and making windows look and behave like your phone is one of those ways. My PC is NOT a phone, I don't want it to feel like it is, if I want to see my phone, I'll look at my phone, not my desktop. I have NO interest in Windows 11.

If you don’t like Win 11, switch to an Apple Mac. I make a living supporting both. Mac is less distracting, as it doesn’t seek ad revenue from everyone in sight. If you want your Start button on the left, instead of the middle, right click the taskbar, and choose taskbar settings. Its near the bottom of the menu. Carefully review the settings. Some options can be helpful.

I'm still on Windows 10, but only for gaming and for booting up my GOXLR settings. Once I have booted my settings, then I go to my Linux PC. I don't want to upgrade to Windows 11, as gaming on Linux is still isn't quite there yet. Got two years and four months to go, before Windows 10 gets booted to the ether, never to be seen again. The thing that gets my goat about Windows as a whole, is the fact it's locked down to how Microsoft wants you to use it. I could go on and say everyone move to Linux, but that is just stupid and I have been guilty of saying that in the past. It's such a shame that Microsoft and other proprietary systems, Google, Apple, had to go down the root of selling us all as products, spy and key log everything you type. It isn't the excuse of not having anything to hide, but knowing that everything you do on your own computer, whether you bought a copy or upgraded through an update, constantly being monitored by Microsoft and their Microsoft Edge, forever doing the same thing in the background and attached to the start menu, as well as the search. Just knowing you're being monitored and key logged gives me the Heebie-Geebies. Even if you install Firefox, set that as your Default browser, Edge is still logging everything you do, as you can't uninstall Microsoft Edge, so you're lumbered as it has always been with Microsoft, with two Browsers. Used to be a really outdated version of Internet Explorer and Google Chrome (before they started spying), on my old Windows 7 PC. AI is taking over the world and it will all end with a whimper.

@@dreaper2087 Don't get me wrong for most users yes, they can move straight over to Linux. The majority though don't want to have to relearn something new. They'll moan if they can't have Photoshop, or Adobe Premiere and other Proprietary software that they rely on. Still have to tinker in Linux to get games running properly, probably not as much, but I for one want just want to run a game, without the hassle.
