I'm about done with entirely wiping an OS I've spent years to tweak out, only to have to start all over again installing all those drivers, programs, and saved passwords. You can't do that in a production environment, you end up with 3 months of down time to build a whole new hardware system to run it and reinstall all that mess from square one.

Gaming is a headache in Linux. Some games like Destiny 2, Rogue Company, Fortnite, Overwatch, and other main games don't work at all or out the box. Some of the games that used to work, stopped working in Linux due to Easy Anti-Cheat breaking games. If you are daring and can deal with lots of workarounds to get games working and knowing that some won't be working at all - go ahead. Arch Linux distros will be your best bet as they have fixes for the EAC problem. Just don't use vanilla Arch, as you will have to do a lot of manual configurations, installs, etc. Find a User friendly Arch distro that does most of the config stuff for you. Nobara OS is good for gaming on linux. Besides gaming headaches, Linux is great for everything else.

@@Fletch8714 Well its not as straightforward as that. Some people just go onto the internet to visit commonly visited safe sites and not visit any shady sites. But yeah for most people who dont understand network security upgrading to the latest version of Windows is highly recommended infact I would recommend it aswell. However there are specific scenarios where people who know what they are doing dont need that added layers of protection and an older version of Windows say windows 7 would still be usable but they would need to have a 3rd party firewall installed which is set to prompts mode which can annoying but is the most secure option. As long as you have manual control of your firewall, install an up to date adblocker such as ublock origin or the other popular ones and dont visit shady sites or install suspicious 3rd part or pirated apps then you are just as secure as anyone with the latest OS. Having said all this I dont think anyone should visit any dodgy site to begin with that includes those free streaming and free download sites aswell nor should anyone use pirated software or apps that arent run through virustotal first. Edit: its alot of extra work involved to run all the 3rd party apps you like through virustotal but I personally have done it and its worth the effor because it adds that extra layer of security in doing so. I have windows 10 with a 3rd party firewall and my browsers update in the background and I have adblockers installed along with mining blocks as well as other encryption runnning on my browser. Its a bit of work to set up but trust me its all worth it in the end.

Windows 11 only forces people to upgrade hardware because it's less for them to do and test and support, Windows 10 overall is better on hardware support of all kinds Where as windows 11 is great now but it seems to adapt on how much system ram you have, To max the best performance having 32gb of ram is really necessary as friend has said it can use alot of ram for background programs and resources, But games performance is good on the newest hardware 13900k and 4090 gtx, DDR 5 etc, Not all of are rich, I've recently upgraded to 5700x 8 core and 16gb ddr4 3200mhz ram, Not sure how windows 11 will run with it over windows 10, But least i have the option as it is supported, Win11 supports more cores better as it makes more use of them so iam told also for applications in the background processes area and games.

I think most of Windows 11 hate is based on that most people thought Windows 10 would be a rolling release and that was it even if it wasn't confirmed officially by Microsoft. I understand Microsoft not supporting old hardware but their hardware requirements pretty much ensured you would have to buy a new computer. I am the exception because my computer is pretty old and does everything I need it to do. I think Linux is more viable for a lot of people than you might think. It all comes down to what software do you need. I agree there is a lot of hate for Microsoft but some of it is warranted. I understand we can't escape telemetry and being spied on but Microsoft essentially knows what you are doing on your computer at all times. Also they re install stuff you deleted when your computer gets updated. If AI gets included in Windows 12 more people may be hesitant.

Many ham radio guys who I've met on Ham radio YT channels who were early adopters of Win11 deeply regret upgrading from W10 as their W11 systems keep crashing, yet those hams who stuck with W10 have no issues. One of the sticking points is how Win11 doesn't seem to play well with the USB to RS232 dongles employing Prolific chipset drivers & this is a huge issue as many ham radio handhelds ie Baofeng, Anytone, Yaesu, Icom use serial connections via programming cables & many ham radio apps ie Anytone 878 CPS software is windows only & doesn't play well with Wine under linux. Here's a Linux user about to prove you wrong about us: Don't run Linux until you're ready to do so. 😀 There, as a Linux user, I just told people to not run Linux. I was successful in my switch to Linux. My games work. My software I need to use works. I'm not in the terminal typing commands all the time and I can go for months without seeing the terminal and only bring it up when I feel like tinkering. However, I know full well that everybody's mileage varies. For example, some people often use the command line in Windows at home to automate uninstalling stuff they don't need on a standard install, or to set all the settings for them, etc. Other people don't use the command line at all in Windows and do these things with a graphical utility instead. Some people have hardware/software they want/need to use that only works on Windows. Some people are afraid of change. What ever the reason, Linux is not going to be for everyone. However, as a Linux user, I will encourage people to at least try it out from time to time. It's like picking a car out at the dealership. Many will test drive multiple cars before deciding which one to buy. If people try Linux and it bombs for them, I'm fine with that. They gave it a shot and that was that. Linux, like Windows does evolve overtime on the desktop so maybe when there's a new version of Windows out there and the controversies start over new feature X, look around and test drive other options and see what works for you at that time. It used to be almost all games would not work on Linux. Now most games will run with little to no tweaking needed and no command line-fu to get them to work. The alternatives to the almighty Adobe suite are getting better. Hardware support for some thing that only used to work in Windows is slowly getting better too. With privacy and telemetry being hot-button issues for so many people these days (and rightly so) it is worth test driving other options and seeing where things sit for you from time to time.

Windows 10 LTSC all the way
@100Bucks Жыл бұрын
There's no need to do it. Only upgrade if your PC gets corrupted. 10 and 11 are pretty much the same.

If you're on Windows 10 you might as well wait for 12. Windows 11 was absolutely fine until microsoft released build 22H2. Now the UI is sluggish and MS haven't supplied a in over a year.

10:45 "now some people are saying that windows 10 is better than windows 11, I don't think that's the case. I think a lot of that is just the people getting on the internet and doing a bit of hate on windows 11" ....interesting take, meanwhile did you ever consider many of us have used windows 11 and know that it is a terrible product. Sounds like you are on the marketing team.

Great video and information Brian. I have 2 laptops with Windows 10 home. Can I get an Enterprise key and upgrade the system to that version to get the extended support until 2032?
@BBK12121 Жыл бұрын
12 needs to have a version for just aiiming for gaming so you do not to fully delete or disable services and apps
@DeadPixel1105 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, good call. For example, everytime I'm about to fire up a game, I always disable Windows Defender and some other services. My PC is extremely powerful and I admit I've noticed no noticeable gaming performance decrease when Windows Defender and these other services are still running, but I still do it. I get like OCD-ish about it lol
@chronosmagasaurus2813 Жыл бұрын
COuldnt agree with u more, I remove bloatware everytime I have to reinstall along with the services and all the other useless garbage thats built into the OS.
@chronosmagasaurus2813 Жыл бұрын
Heck if they allow you to set presets that you can switch to on the fly within windows that would be the dream. I will be willing to even pay 500 + dollars for such a feature. That way I can do my work on the settings and services most suited for that and If I need to game I'll switch settings and services to a gaming preset and it must all be done seamlessly without having to restart or anything

Though would windows 12 have system requirements as well?
@davinp Жыл бұрын
If Microsoft is planning on a Windows 12, it is rumored that Windows 12 will have more AI tech built in which means Windows 12 would have higher system requirements than Windows 11. I want to reinforce that this is just rumors at this time.

I would love to upgrade to 11 but it still says my HW is not compatible. What if i am not in a position to buy better HW until 2025? I would have no other option than using my unsecured win10 or is there any other option?
@OnSilverWings Жыл бұрын
I think at the very least wait until 23h2 comes out before moving that way it can be a clean install the the latest version. Im still not sure and 10 does the job so ill bide my time, maybe wait until i need to upgrade and do it then as well.

Well Brian I use the Open Shell software to customise for my own personal choice is a Windows 7 look. Now with the different OS's they (Microsoft) put out what does it matter whether or not you have to add restrictions to running the latest from them? Because as I have mentioned before I have my own build Ivy Bridge with the stuff I made the machine and it works really well so what is it with hardware?? Now what happens if one uses Windows 12 when it comes out will they cut shirt the support for Windows 11?? Frankly I cannot see how can they justify putting out new version/s of Windows when the current one is working so well once one gets used to it like myself?? Another query is if they force individuals to use certain hardware/s and make it a subscription form of paying for the OS will the interminable ads be cut out of the system??

I have read enough things about windows 11 to know I don't want it. I tried Linux and got it to work but the peripheral support for things like wireless trackballs , printers and hi res screens suck. They do have some drivers but there rudimentary. I used Chris Titus script to speed win 10 up and strip out the bloat. Even though I have a PC capable and the upgrade is free as Chris Titus said the only need to update to 11 is because the splash screen looks better. All the commands things like the control panel are messed with.

Very true about GUI Updates/ I remember when Workbench 3.0/3.1 became the final version of Workbench on the Amiga. When Magic User Interface became popular and later on NewIcons it felt like you were running a new computer. Are there any laptops out which still have a detachable battery like the old Thinkpads? This integration can be a real annoyance on laptops and smartphones.

Main issue for me with windows 11 is its slower with system latency and slower in gaming. So i see no reason to switch from Windows 10 until its end of life.
@ampeg187 Жыл бұрын
So were there any leaks or rumours about Windows 12 being a thing? I have not seen any news about that and i don't think we will from Microsoft anytime soon. I think we will be stuck with Windows 11 for a very long time. So far i'm on Windows 10 LTSC 2021 and i hope i get my hands on Windows 11 LTSC when its out sometime next year.

Since their has always been a rift between Windows and Linux users, why has Microsoft implemented the WSL feature? Has anyone read the Windows user’s agreement? It seems to me , Microsoft isn’t going to anything that doesn’t generate a profit or benefits the masses without some cost.
@FlyboyHelosim Жыл бұрын
As if a company cares about rifts between users. Microsoft has always had a hand in the Linux community and is one of the biggest contributors. Windows and Linux coexist side-by-side for anyone who has an ounce of sense and isn't just a playground degenerate.
@TheElectronicDilettante Жыл бұрын
@@FlyboyHelosim Care , no. Capitalize, absolutely. I’ve found pieces of the user agreement to use Windows WSL and as ambiguous as it’s written, I’d bet money that Windows starts releasing new software as their own. When, in fact, we’ll come to find that they’ve been ripping the raw code from WSL users from the beginning. And sadly, we will have no recourse. It’s the same as how I believe it’s a conflict of interest for Microsoft to Own GitHub. Open source and Corporate profiteering are incongruent.

I suspect win 11 machines will be declared incompatible with win 12...and so further e waste....MS in quid pro quo with computer manufacturers....
@rizzomark16 ай бұрын
11 duh, because it's obviously available plus you need minimum 16gb memory for win 12. Most users have 4-8 gig and 16 for gamers. Some games even requires 32 these days. So even if you're just a web browser, you need 16gb for win 12. Win 12 is only for ai users. If your a pro gamer, you are doing just fine with 32gb and win 11 pro. Dont do it to yourself with win 12. It's hands down an I told you so situation lol. If you have 64gb ddr5 and an i9 or ryzen 9 cpu then sure why not but please don't upgrade people! Lol
