Great list. I would add 27 don't pull part of the sealing ring out and then just keep pulling. Work your way around. The rivets under the retaining ring can snap if too much force is applied. 28 buy an extra sealing ring and use one for sweet/low flavour foods, and one for strong savoury foods like chillies, curries, beans, etc.

The spoon/ladels that come with most instant pots with the "standard" release valves actually fit onto the release valve - use the handle end where there's a hole for hanging the utensil, it should pretty much fit on perfectly 👍🏻

If you’re that afraid, let it sit for a while. It doesn’t have to be quick released. I’ve always used my finger & have NEVER burned myself. All you have to do is touch the the little protruding thingy and move it with the slightest twitch of your finger. If your big enough to cook, then your big enough to bend your finger.

Love this video. OneNote from an electrician though. If an extension cord has an impact on your cook time, the cord wires are too small. This is bad for the appliance, and it is potentially a safety hazard. Big box (Lowe’s, HomeDepot, etc) or hardware stores sell a variety of cords in different gages. Also the longer the cord, the heavier gage it needs to be.

came here to say this. absolutely nothing wrong electrically when using the right cord. mine is 18 awg and can be found by searching for heavy duty extension or 18awg extension. that being said, do be careful if you need to use any extension cord because of the increased likelyhood of tripping over or accidentaly pulling on the cord... which could be bad news. short cords are a safety feature for many appliances...

I totally agree, In our RV I have to be careful with overloading circuits, I installed a dedicated 20 amp outlet for a portable air conditioner, now that it is winter I use a heavy duty 14 gauge / 10 ft. long extension cord and plug in any high draw appliance I need it for. works great. I have used it for portable electric heater, air fryer, instant pot, counter top dishwasher... the list goes on. never a problem if you use the correct equipment.

No background music! Great channel - love these do's /don'ts! Btw, don't quick release things that are of oatmeal consistency either - wait at least 10 minutes. Spoken from experience! :-)

Hello, Richard Gray. Since pressure cooking is not a bit like regular cooking, new instant pot users don't know any of this other than by trial and error (and wasting a lot of time, effort, and food).

That's a very arrogant thing to say! Many people have never used a pressure cooker or an instant pot and therefore don't know what they're working with. I would rather give more information than not enough!

I've never even seen a pressure cooker before. The only thing I hopefully wouldn't have done is try to open it under pressure (hopefully). I really appreciate her video as a total newbie. I suspect you've been using them for a while so everything is really obvious. Well, it is NOW, but not before I watched it. :)

@@MrDanharmon Maybe you're right, but to me, some of these tips are akin to the "not for human consumption" warnings on a container of Tide Pods.

I noticed you have a towel under the instant pot on your counter. I suggest you add a note to your video. The user guide states clearly to not block the vents under the unit. I feel some people may think it is ok to use a thick or fluffy towel....not good.

Try a cord with thicker wires inside it and you might find it helps, less resistance in the wire. Great video.

The provided cord is a cruel joke , buy a higher gauge and longer one at the hardware home store

If you ever revise this video, I recommend a slight change to your extension cord reference. If the extension cord you used extended the time to get to pressure and to cook, this means the cord you used did not have a sufficient amperage rating, and the cord itself was heating up. The reason not to use such a cord is that it is a significant fire hazard. An appliance cord rated for the amperage drawn by the Instant Pot would be electrically safe, but it usually presents the hazard of someone snagging it while the pot is in use. So, same recommendation (don't use an extension cord), but for slightly different reasons. No music is best. Storing lid and seal ring my favorite.

Wow. Great tips. I thought you could use it as a slow cooker as well, so really good tip. Also liked the one about removing the sealing ring & the extension cord. But I won't always have that choice about outlets. And yes I prefer no music.

I think that each brand of instant pots may work a bit differently. I use the slow cook setting and and it only adds maybe 30 to 45 minutes extra, when on high, maybe 1 hour or so on low. I would suggest doing a test before assuming that you are going to have to cook it twice as long.

I've had my IP for about 5 years but thought I'd watch this anyway. SO glad I did as used the slow cooker function only once and never again as the food wasn't cooked - I had no idea this is different from usual slow cookers. Also would not have known about the extension lead - thank you! Great vid and great to have no music and be able to hear you :)

I know there actually people out there dumb enough to use the Instant Pot without the liner. Still, it’s sad that you actually need to include that.
