i also had a weird fear of marine life growing up, cried at aquariums and whatnot. but my brother took me diving when i was in a deep depression and seeing the insane diversity and size of marine animals is so humbling. it's a complete world totally free from our temporal societal constraints. just beautiful. really changed my perspective so im so happy to see it on your list.

For me it’s my chickens. While the initial setup cost more than $100 the chickens them selves collectively cost under. I don’t work due to mental illness and as such I’m pretty lonely and for a long time felt completely devoid of a purpose in life but my small flock changed that. I have to get out of bed now to let them out of the coop/collect eggs, I have to make sure they have a constant supply of food and water and I have to make sure their coop is clean. They’ve given me not only some form of purpose but also accountability as their survival comes down to me just getting out of bed in the morning. It’s also nice to see them rush over to you when you check up on them, like some living creature in this world is excited about your presence haha

I LOVED this video. Here is my list: 1. A bullet journal. I’ve never not had a journal since my first, and I always feel so much more at peace with myself when journaling. 2. My plants. Taking care of something, seeing it grow, that symbiotic relationship. 3. A well fitting dress. A lot of standardized clothes don’t look good on everyone. Finding clothes that actually fit my body type made me realize that I am beautiful, and that $15 dress from Target helps me so much. 4. A decent cooking knife ($50) WOW. Everybody who cooks regularly just needs a decent knife. It makes cooking so much more enjoyable, safer, etc. 5. My library card (free). My local library is AMAZING. The things I can do just with my library card astound me everyday. Since I work from home, i can choose to go to the library if I want a different space. They have rooms available to use, I can not only get books but movies games audiobooks, mine even has integrations with audiobook apps! The librarians have helped me with research, language learning, job hunting, TAX PREP, everything. I love the library.

ahhh yeah.. i... got addicted. good job on self control, you. (can stop reading here. point made. or, for entertainment purposes and perhaps plant ideas, read on) i have a small basement apartment... 2 deep - silled windows (4'x2'x10") but that barely get light.. I can use only 1 at the moment for plants. (after 10 years in the dark, I needed to try plants again, and after my cat child passed away, I too needed something living to care for and watch grow) i had a semi costly plant light from the mostly uneducated last attempt 6 years ago... I've found humid, part shade loving plants that can be kept small by pruning and tweaking lighting.. (some are fedor begonia, peperomia, a small snake plant, rattlesnake calathea, pregnant onion, (that one survived neglect and abuse, no sun and cold, summers outdoors for 10 years so it's my star and smaller (1') than it would get, 5'. maybe one day..) ferns, fly trap... more but I'll shut up bc plant parents can be that annoying) i like tiny things, cleverly cluttered so it doesnt feel like hoarding. for space, humidity and light I've begun to create crowded, multi leveled semi- vertical stacking and getting creative with moving furniture for "the children" to crowd under the light. replaced blinds with whole - window decal that let's in light but not eyes from passersby. twas the obsessive educating myself that stops/replaces obsessive thought on other draining things. had I only stopped there... we visited a greenhouse specializing in orchids............ and 3 hrs and 124$ later I took home 4 miniature orchids whose pots and cork blocks could fit in 1 hand. now I have to acquire more equipment. x.x

The one thing that changed my life 360° this year was a $6 sketchbook. So I am a student in a very strict family and science was my major (science is cool but I don't like it that much) I knew from the start that I didn't like it and my dreams are not related to science at all.I wanted to be an artist, a writer,a musician, but my parents were clearly against it. So I figured that the only way for me to convince them is by showing them some results. So I bought a $6 sketchbook and started drawing for real.I practiced everyday and I was getting so much better until I actually filled up the whole book. So I got another one. And I filled that one. And then I got another one. And I filled that one too. So by the time I filled 3 books practicing a lot of different styles and topics, I became really good. So I bought a $20 sketchbook and tried to make it as a resume(?) to convince my parents why I think I qualify to pursue my dreams.I filled ¾ of the book, and showed it to them. It was hard to learn a very time-consuming skill especially when you are already occupied with so many other things. But I was happy for most of the time (even though I really didn't have enough sleep). And I got it! My parents approved and now I am a student learning art trying to pursue his dreams. Yay. The lesson I learned here is that hardwork and discipline is really the key that unlocked this door for me. Even though I was not that good at first, I kept doing it and eventually quantity leads to quality. I'm also so much happier now and I'm actually getting enough sleep and time to spend with people instead of being so isolated in my room. So thank you $6 sketchbook. You changed my life 👍

this is really amazing to read. seriously. im going into my final year of biology (micro) and ive been really struggling with it (im not interested!). i also have strict parents who never let me pursue creativity, i am so passionate about music and dance, but have never been able to express it. similar to you at the start of 2022 i bought a cheap notebook, and started drawing and expressing everything that was inside of me on the pages and it really sharpened my mind to my passions. im at the start of my "sketchbook" journey where i still need to learn the ins and outs of music and put in that quantity to reach quality, but reading this today has inspired me incredibly. i just need to thank you personally for deciding to share your sincere experience. also to anyone reading this, please share your experiences, you never know who might be reading, even just one person might resonate with you, just like me.

@@deandelion4838 how did you learn? Step-by-step instructions? Copy a picture? Used your imagination?
@deandelion4838
@deandelion4838 2 жыл бұрын
@@growingwithshaun At first I mostly copied other artist's works as reference, but I realized that by doing that,I can't draw without a reference and I can't think creatively on my own. Then I started learning some basics and it helped me a lot in understanding some complex concepts. I would definitely reccomend learning some basics and fundamentals if you can. After that,I explored a lot more styles and started to developed my own.I started with pencils as my main medium and moved to pens, oil pastels and now oil paint. Now, I draw scenery and portrait for the most part and I'm still practicing.Sometimes I draw completely from imagination and sometimes I draw with a reference photo. I would say both are equally hard as drawing from imagination requires a lot of creativity and inspiration, and drawing from a reference photo gives you pressure to draw exactly like the photo which can be stressing at times. In conclusion, I would say -Learn the basics and fundamentals of art (if you have the time) -Explore and experiment.Exposing yourself to different styles could lead you into developing your own. -Practice. This includes practicing your weaknesses, the basics and practice based on your style.I would reccomend to use a reference photo since it helps you to observe better. -Have some fun.(by doing art,and not because of people's compliments) I hope this helps!

loved the video! here is my list: 1- the headspace app (kind of like calm, it helped me a lot with mindfulness) 2- a digital watch. I am very bad at doing boring tasks and also I don't understand time, so for some reason, putting 5min timers helps me tremendously while doing chores. Now I know that the pain of boredom is not eternal, it is only 5 minutes, and then I usually just keep going. (putting timers on the phone doesn't help because when I take the phone I immediately forget what I was going to do) The watch also counts steps, which help me motivate myself to go out and walk. 3- a flask to keep in my desk at all times, I never get dehidrated thanks to it 4- fairy lights and/or a lamp with led lights that resemble a galaxy (kind of) this kind of lighting makes the room so much more cozy, it is like a different space 5- a blanc notebook to use as a journal

One of my favorite things: A One-line-a-day journal. My husband got me the kind where you can write in it for five years. I love this journal because it's so simple- just recount your day in a couple sentences. I'm not great at journaling or putting together pretty layouts for bullet journaling so it's ideal for because of how straightforward it is. And since I've been using it for over a year now it's cool to look back and see what I've done the year before. Definitely an item that has changed my life!

My big one has been JOURNALS. I've probably spent over $100 on them over the past few years (especially because I like to get hardcover ones with cool looking covers) but it has been such a monumental thing for me to start writing down what's in my head. It's allowed me to be more honest with myself, make better plans, change my mindset, make sense of things, and be more mindful. Your journaling techniques have helped me a ton, too! I've been doing your daily reflection questions before bed every night and it helps me to relax my mind before bed and really internalize how my day went.

I love this! I feel like there's so many things under $100 that have changed my life, but here are 10 off the top of my head: 1: Hoop earrings. Always struggled with self esteem and confidence, but whenever I put on my hoops (not super big, and they're light) it just instantly boosts me up. 2: Water Tumbler. Helps me drink water like a beast, but also - helps me save on buying any drinks out and I haven't bought a plastic water bottle in forever. 3: Plants. I've always loved them, but finally allowing myself to buy them and take care of something I love has been amazing. 4: A snuggie with feet. My husband bought me this - and I use it literally every freaking day. I'm always cold, but it's also comforting when I'm feeling sad to just cuddle up in it and hide. 5: Ditto on the nag champa. 6: Lavendar body wash bar soap from sprouts for $2. The definition of self care for myself, and the lavender really helps calm me. 7: Julia Cameron's "The Artist's Way" 8: A super durable phone case. I never skip out on cases - my phone, computer, everything has a durable case and I never feel bad about it. 9: A roller for feat. It's a massage roller that specifically is used for rolling out the muscles in your feet. My feet are always killing me, and this saves the daaaay. 10: New guitar strings. I restrung my guitar in 2020 - which led to starting the band back up, recording music, finally following my dreams, and meeting my husband (our music producer).

Seriously such a great video, the yoga with Adrienne shout out cracked me up so hard! Does everyone on this planet that does yoga, do her videos every once in awhile?? Lol she’s such a rad human and leads her yoga sessions so naturally. She does feel like a friend if you’ve been doing her videos with her for years and years. The tile for your keys is so genius! Not just for misplacing then around the house, but if they fell out of a pocket at a park and were lost outside of your home, you would have a way to retrieve them! The triad of 30 year old meditation, incense, meditation and yoga, makes me wonder what a 20 year olds list would look like, and a 40 yr olds, 50 yr olds, etc. Library card and good walking shoes would be two items that changed my life under $100 for sure!

For me the biggest items under $100 of this year have to be a small 200ml teapot and some some high quality tea. Learning how tea should actually be brewed (in small amounts, many times over a sitting with the same leaves) and getting to know the vast world of pure, not aromatised tea has really changed life and made me more sensitive to the little things in life. Oh and there is a whole other aspect of tea culture which is also super interesting.

I'm with you with the board/card games being a great social interaction/life changing tool (I too have given up addictions) Disassociating myself from the old drink/drugs crowd I had to find a way to meaningfully interact with people that I actually wanted to be with and these cheap little dice & board games were my lifesaver. Some of my most cherished memories are from playing Zombie Dice ($25.00) with a dear friend who recently passed away from cancer. I miss him everyday but every time I get that game out I think of him and remember to be as in the moment as he was. That feeling never happened with booze & drugs because I honestly couldn't remember them the next day. Great video and thank you for your positive no-BS attitude.

1. Earplugs - to feel less overwhelmed when going to noisy, crowded places 2. Whiteboard with calendar - to be aware of time flow and set realistic plans 3. Carafe with water on my desk 4. Heavily agree with getting some earplugs especially if you like live music. Sure a lot of the cheaper ones will dull the sound a bit but that happens naturally after 10 minutes of destroying your eardrums anyway - plus you can't put a price on having good hearing because once it's fucked, it's fucked.

your videos always make me feel so much better about my situation in life. And its not a backhanded comment!! Im recovering from homelessness and so seeing small items like this making a huge change in someones life, is inspireing bc no one talks about how expensive homelessness really is... It's nice to know i can reclaim some advocacy in my life with small things, i dont have to have a huge successful shiny life. I quit smoking, bc i bought a vape mod. i saved so much money switching to juice, i was able to afford seeing a dr, and starting hormone therapy... I bought card games so i can have more ways to connect with friends who are recovering from addictions, even though I could be doing better with that myself... I tried to make all my new clothes multifunctional and hardy, I only own 3 pairs of jeans, 2 sweats, and 1 pair of shorts. reducing the clutter helped me feel more in control in a weird way. I love your content and i hope you only keep getting batter and wiser with the time you have on this earth. thanks for that.

This was super interesting, as always! I can think of a few things at the top of my head: 1. Professional grade watercolor paper. It made my art so much better and made me want to paint even more 2. A spiky massage ball for all those pesky muscles (I am 34, right on cue there) 3. My first crochet hooks. Turned into an amazing hobby that I love 4. Being a patron for a youtuber, their community is amazing and is keeping me sane 5. A comfortable sleeping mask - darkness is my friend, I sleep so much better. I can also think of things over 100$ that were life changing, like Bose noise cancelling headset, a new upper mattress, my kindle. I just love items that can improve your life!

My number one favourite item under $100 is my oblique strategy cards from Brian Eno. When you’re stuck on a creative decision, you shuffle them up and pull one at random. Each one has a totally unique action or thought on it and once you pull one, you have to try and apply it to the situation.

Loop earplugs to wear when everything around me is too loud, great for sensory discomfort, even better for protecting my ear drums 6. weighted blanket, i sleep so much better now and am much more comfortable in bed at night ( abit more than £100 but i felt like i couldn't not mention it given how much it's helped me) :)

1. Water distiller ($60 found on Marketplace) - cleaner water = more appetizing. Also the amount of time to produce a gallon makes me appreciate water so much more 2. Oracle cards - even if you're not witchy, they encourage introspection 3. A pressure cooker - saves so much time and now we eat more legumes (that we now also buy in bulk) 4. Epsom salts for baths = more zen and less crampy household 5. Cloud foam slides and trainers = less sore feet for the 30 somethings 6. Rechargeable electric lighter - doesn't need gas, the spark is so much cooler than a regular one and now we light candles more often 7. Water flosser - before I got it, I hated flossing with string and basically never did it 8. Coat hangers - I hang everything in the wardrobe which makes getting ready easier 9. Pill organizer - self explanatory

1. My first planner with a month-at-glance layout. Made it way harder to overplan, and probably led me on my path to bullet journalling. Can’t imagine my life without 2. Special shoe soles for pronation. Knee problems dissapeared. 3. My first camera (a one time use). Shaped how I approach photography still, and documenting everyday moments is a huge part of how I navigate being alive in this world. 4. Stick blender! And focusing on adding the greens rather than taking "bad" stuff away. 5. the Headspace app. 6. Basket for clean laundry… before kids I would just put clothes straight from the drying rack into the dresser, but when I coudn’t keep it up the dirty laundry kept piling. Having a place where clean laundry could keep piling instead made me a lot less overwhelmed mom! 7 Menstrual cup. 8 Gooseneck phone holder to take overhead video of me making stuff. I even got a paid gig out of it! 9 Paint for our bedroom in the first appartement we didn’t rent, but owned. Realizing how much the esthetics of my surroundings affect me has absolutely changed my life. 10 Spotify and my "get house chores done"-playlist

I'll also throw out a book - Feeling Good by David Burns. I was so fed up with therapy not working that I was like, "Fine, I'll do it myself!" The singular thing under $100 that changed my life forever is a book called "How I Stayed Alive When My Brain Was Trying To Kill Me," written by a multiple-attempt suicide survivor. I stumbled across it in my late 20s or early 30s and it threw a bright light on a reality I'd been living with (and continue to) since I was a child. I lived a life exhausted beyond words with random and unprovoked episodes of unfocused, despondent rage. One of my earliest memories is standing in the middle of a pretty field next to our house, gazing up into a blue sky with fluffy white clouds . . . wondering what the F^CK it was all for and why I couldn't just die already. I was 9 years old. My parents were (and are) married and loved each other, I got along well with my younger brother, I was doing well in school . . . I knew even at that age that there was absolutely no reason for me to feel the way I did, which of course only made things worse. That book taught me that what I was experiencing was no one's fault, including my own. It's an instability in my neurochemical make-up. I was still into my 40s before I was properly diagnosed at last with Major Depressive Disorder. I'm on medications now that haven't solved things completely, but they take the chemical and psychological rollercoasters and keep them down to something more like monorails - still potentially pretty fast but at least largely flat and even and USUALLY predictable. Ish. Any time anything mental-health related comes up, I tell everyone I can about that book. And now about yours as well. It's IMMENSELY helpful in other, broader ways that are more relevant and relatable to a wider range of people. THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing it, and I look forward to your next! As I look forward to all your videos. 👍💜

I posted a question like this on reddit after buying a daylight light bulb. Less than $7 and the difference it makes in my studio is well, life-changing. I can't believe it took me this long to get one. #2 would be an e-reader. I'm a whale reader and have books stacked up everywhere. Having a thousand books at my fingertips anytime? The dream. I may never have a flying car but as long as I have an e-reader I can believe the future is here. As an old person, I'm the exact opposite about photos. I've toted around boxes and boxes of precious family photos through various moves and I'm always terrified that a fire or flood or just age will destroy them. I'm slowly digitizing but it's not the same. Having digital photos, plus a back up, never having to worry about whether my camera battery is good, being able to take 50 pictures of the same thing and make sure I get a good one is a huge boon to my old age.

It was simple purchase but helped reduce the clutter in our bathroom. 2. A Rhodia Journal - I bought this gorgeous lavender blue journal from a shop in Vermont and has become such a lifeline in my life and brings such joy. 3. Headspace app - used to be a big hater on meditating lol but the app definitely helped break that stigma and eased me in 4. Spotify - I'm happy spotify exists is all i will say 5. Trinkets - I used to always refrain from buying myself things if it didn't have some practical value because I didn't want to be wasteful or excessive. But there is value. It brings me joy. So now, I let myself buy those cute earrings, or art print, or little happy frog that sits on my ceramic leaf dish because it makes me happy. 6. A water filter - no more metallic tap water for me! lol 7. smoothies - i'm kinda shit at eating well consistency, so i'll buy fruits and veggies, force myself to prep and freeze them and in 2 months when i feel like being healthy again, i can make smoothies and other yummy things 8. plants - i think...accumulatively it's past a $100 now but taking care of my plants and getting the things that i need for them makes me happy. The absolute best thing for under 100$ that I got was an old Galaxy Note Pro Tablet with an spen. Bought it like 2 years ago for around 80$ and since then it became my everyday noteblock and also journal. As a guy with severe ADHD and Autism I have constantly racing thoughts in my mind and never the feeling of inner peace, even with Medication. And with this Tablet, every though that crosses my mind is now written down and saved. It helps me a lot to get rid of some random thoughts during college or Work because I know, when I write it down "the thought is saved, my mind can let it go" and it is like freeeing up space in my head so I can get back to work or enjoy my free time I was spending. Also it has something nice to write a journal by Hand! And this Tablet is used for nothing else. I kicked every single app exept note-apps or the web browser, and it feels good! ...gues you could just buy a noteblock out of paper, but I didn't want to still use paper and pens and I can carry a lot more information with me :D Don't know if anyone will read this, for me this tablet was like a life-changer ^^ Greetings from Germany :D

Also for many of the regular day-to -day items I use (soap, toothpase, socks) I find make a big difference if I spend a little bit more to get ones that I really like rather than just the bare minimum, it makes getting to use them a bit of a treat and it helps my day feel nicer.

Seriously rock climbing got me over one of my life long fears of heights and has allowed me to push myself further. A year ago I was just getting into bouldering and terrified on the wall and this month I learned how to lead climb. If I had a time machine and went back to tell myself a year or a year and a half ago I'd be doing this, I wouldn't believe it.

Your channel has been changing my life. Every night before falling asleep I watch a couple of videos and think about the message. So I end up falling asleep with a very positive mindset and willing to change my habits, my way of thinking and the way I see myself and my life. I cant think of a way to thank you for sharing everything you do, the way you do. It is admirable and genuine. Your take on life is amazing. I hope I get there one day, too

Items under a hundred that changed my life: - Jigsaw + drill. Yeah, for real. These items cost me €100 total, and completely opened my eyes to the possibility of DIY'ing anything I wanted. Gone are the days of buying expensive niche items, just make them yourself! - A mesh-back hat. I was a serious hat denier as a kid. When I finally bought a proper hat last year I realized what I'd been missing all this time. Sun in my eyes? NO MORE! It's amazing. - A good pillow. You simply don't know the pleasure of waking up without your neck hurting until you invest in a proper pillow. Try a few in the store, see what you like most. You'll keep it for many, many years. Same for a mattress, although that's more expensive. - Minecraft. This might sound weird, but I think this is the first videogame I purchased independently back in 2012. I was hooked, it was a creative paradise for a kid like me. This kickstarted my interest in videogame production, which lead me to learning to program, make videogame art, release my first independent game on Steam and get a job as a developer. You just cannot understate how much of an impact it can have to empower kids to follow their interests!

Agree whole heartedly re: jigsaw and drill. Addition = a sander. Literally, it's like $20 and I use it constantly for so many things. It has allowed me to fix basically anything. Weird section on a wall? Sand it. Weird piece of wood sticking up on something? Sand it. So good and everyone should have one.

Currently- thicker guitar picks with a grip, the grip makes me less likely to drop it when my hands get sweaty practicing, and a micro mesh tea steeper, now I have no reason not to drink tea instead of soda, but it’s also better for the planet because no tea bags. Giant reusable water jug, also goes along with the less soda thing. Also an app that speaks what I type, I’m a vocalist and have been on vocal rest since Thursday and it’s helped a lot with that and just for day to day use because I get a little raspy at the end of the day, so when I use that I don’t worry as much about straining. Your book is also on the list

Absolutely love the video! The life changing things that changed my £100 are 1. An A3 artist clipboard that i can literally take anywhere. 2. A bucket hat, sun protection all around (I'm British, I don't like the sun.) 3. Herbal Tea, all of them. 4. Probably polaid camera again. Theyre just sick! 5. Pair of white Filas, great support and everyday use. 6. A good notepad app on my phone (its free but ive only properly recently.) 7. A 1 litre sized waterbottle, gotta stay hydrated. 8. Big bucket of white matt emolsion, so damn useful for everything. 9. Proper chefs knife, makes cooking so much easier. 10. Chohula hot sause.

Vids like this are why I come to your channel :) No BS, and tips that anyone can use. My top things-under-$100-that-changed-my-life: 1: a seven day pill organizer. I hate slogging through bottles to find what I'm supposed to be taking at that moment, and if I don't see them, I forget to take them. Now once a week, I set up my pill boxes for the week and leave it on the table where I can't miss it (not recommended if you've got wee ones or curious teens!) 2: an electric tea kettle: it boils so much faster than the stove and removes the "I'm-too-impatient" barrier from an otherwise pleasant self-care activity 3: MUG WARMERS!!! I have three (so far) scattered around the house. My coffee or tea staying at the same drinkable temperature all day long without the need to reheat several times a day feels so indulgent, and it lets me keep working without the distraction of cold coffee or trips to the microwave.

1. The app Things 3 -- First I felt silly for spending like $30 CAD on a to-do list app when there are so many free ones out there, but it really has made me more productive. I have ADHD and have a hard time prioritizing and remembering things. Things lets me set a deadline for a task, and a separate day to do it. So I can always see how many days I have left before deadline. Sounds simple but even writing due dates on a calendar never worked for me before, I'd always stay up all night doing the thing the night before... Finally feel in control of my time! 2. Lastpass password manager on all my devices: Same as above, ADHD forgetfulness shit, now I never have to reset another password 😂 3. Nespresso machine off Facebook marketplace 4. A wool turtleneck sweater for my dog that says "Squirrel Patrol." Because he looks cute AF

One thing that changed my life (and still haven't seen in the comments) is a good small set of kitchen knives (a chef knife, serrated knife, and paring knife). It made cooking at home easier, more enjoyable, and helped me cook more often - which is healthier and saves me a lot of money! Aside from that: - Headspace app - A large water bottle - Going to the gym with a friend - plants - notebook with dot grid and good quality paper (like moleskine) - muji fine tip pen (it's such a pleasure to take notes in) Hope this helps someone or anyone can relate to these! 💙

1. A pestle and mortar and a good chef's knife. I practice value per wear when it comes to clothes so why not extend it to kitchen tools. It changed the way I cook and approach cooking. You don't need the big knife set or single use applicances. 2. MDF canvasses and a foam brush, it was the first time I used chalk paint and started my new furniture painting hobby. Was a creative child but had to regain it in my 30s. 3. Running club membership. I found a way to make friends as an adult. I started to love my body and be in awe of it and I lost weight without focusing on it. 4. A5 notebooks for R20. I love taking notes when I work and these small ones are way more portable than an exam pad. I've gone through so many and actually have different ones for different things. I keep buying more when i see them.

Some of my own items: 1. A nice pillow. Just having something comfy to rest my head on really improved my sleep. 2. Comfy walking shoes. It encourages me to be on my feet more. 3. A good backpack. I carry my stuff to work in, I travel with it, it just adds a lot of convenience to have my stuff all ready to go in one place. 4. Sturdy water bottles with interchangeable lids. Hydrate or die-drate! 5. Snow scraper with telescoping handle. Essential for facing Midwestern winters, especially if you’re short like me and need to extra handle length to reach the top of your windshield. 6. A good computer mouse. Something comfortable to use for hours at a time, especially if your only other option is a track pad. 7. Mini first aid kit. Basically just a few band-aids, a disinfectant wipe, and a pair of tweezers stuffed into a wallet-size pouch, but damn is it nice when you need it. 8. Solar/crank charger, preferably with a flashlight. From short power outages to longer blizzards, having something to keep my phone charged and a light to see by has been a godsend for me. 9. Wingspan. It’s a beautiful board game, and kickstarted my love of board games as an adult, which in turn has got me to spend more time playing games with my family and friends instead of just watching tv or the like. (For a less complex but still dang adorable game, I recommend Sushi Go) 10. Crochet hook and yarn. Okay I’ll admit I’ve definitely spent more than $100 on yarn at this point, but you don’t need that much to start out with and it gives me something that is both calming, and results in something cool at the end!

When I’m anxious I dissociate and what’s worked for me is playing with play dough. I don’t find stress balls or knitting relaxing but kneading play dough has been the perfect sensory item to get my mind occupied and back into my body from freeze response. Love this video! There's two things that immediately come to mind for me: 1) Wireless earphones. I have a pair worth about $40, and I've been able to listen to podcasts so much because of them, which in itself changes my life. I can listen while cooking, cleaning, whatever really, and I never have the problem of cables. 2) Good quality water bottle. I have a double walled stainless steel one, and it's dented and scratched as hell but I take it with me wherever I go and drink a shit load of water.

What a lovely list. It's inspired me to get a new yoga mat. Mine is a weighted blanket. I'm autistic and it's the most effective tool I have for recovering from sensory meltdowns aside from my phone. Also? Sleeping with one is top notch, it improves my quality of sleep by at least 20% which is really important because I'm narcoleptic. (Even if you're not who doesn't want better sleep?)

1) a roll of chicken wire that I used not only to fence areas of my garden to keep animals out, but also to make the easiest and best composter ever. (Just attach the wire to itself in a loop). I have very little garbage because most of it goes right in the compost, and then I don't have to buy a bunch of dirt each season. 2) it was free because i checked it out of my library: Ina May's guide to childbirth really helped me get my head around having a baby and get rid of some of the anxiety that can work against you in the process. 3) Grocery items like ginger root and bread yeast. These are items people around me ask what they are, and I tell them what they are and why I get them. I bake my own bread (and other stuff like pizza crust and cinnamon rolls), which is incredibly different than the garbage with a long shelf life. Fresh ginger is also totally different and very versitile. Also you can sprout it and grow more for yourself. 4) Garlic and potatoes: these were really cheap from the grocery store, cheaper than the garden section for their "seeds" but they are some of the easiest things to grow a ton more of just by sticking them in the ground. They gave me the knowledge of the fantastic abundance of nature. I live in a city where a lot of people go hungry and there's a lot of reliance on ngos ro feed people. This started my journey of learning how food shortages and inaccessibility are all manufactured, and how it is a political, not a logistics issue when people have to worry about their next meal. 4) Clipboards. I've talked to tens of thousands about the issues that are important to me over the years, but it started with my clipboards being the objects that allow me to keep going. Never underestimate the power of a clipboard to turn a person from a rando into an official organizer. 5) a regular old notebook and a regular old pen and (bonus) a wall- mounted calendar board. These are all very cheap items, but with myself and my family members always so busy and invested in a lot of things, it is really important to keep dates and thoughts organized and available. I have a terrible memory and would never be able to go half the places or get half the stuff done I want to do without being organized and literally on the same page with the fam. 6) a planned meal out to discuss things like finances. We do it like once or twice a year, and it was a tip I learned from someone else. Financial arguments are one of the top reasons for divorce, and so we we put some effort towards this in a neutral location where a meal is guaranteed without any focus being drawn away by having to cook and do dishes. 7) My pair of used rollerblades. Through high school and college and for some time after these were my transportation to most places. They kept me in good shape and it was a lot more fun to travel this way.

Chicken timer, I like to set a timer when I'm cleaning or cooking and having a timer that's not in my phone has helped so much. Also a "to put away bin" so when I am tidying one room of my house I can put any items that don't go in that room in the bin to be put away after. I am notorious for wandering from room to room and half finishing tasks. "The stay in one room bin" has been so helpful. Also a fancy glass to drink not alcoholic drinks from. I picked up a gorgeous set of crystal coup glasses that I'll drink soda water or kombucha from. It's helped me cut down on habitual drinking, by making non alcoholic beverages seem more special and something to "wind down" with.

Great video! Another idea would be a timed lock (like a padlock), instead of a lock box. This would allow you to put it on a range of sizes, such as purses, backpacks, suitcases, briefcases, etc. This would make it a lot more portable, and you could theoretically lock away just about anything with a big enough container/bag. This isn't something I've used. Just an idea I had while watching the video. I googled it and it turns out they are a real thing, so I can't say I invented it or anything.

Buying a deck of tarot cards completely changed my life and it was less than $20! Whether you are into spirituality or not, the story of the tarot is all about you going through cycles in life. It was a really good reminder that life always has high points and low points and that you are always free to begin a new cycle again. I also learned that my subconscious mind works well with archetypes (like the hermit, queens and kings, etc) and it also really loves visual art/illustrations. Knowing this about myself, I knew your book would be very effective for me before I even read it!

I tiled my keys a few years back and it was great. When it was time to re-tile, the newer device was inconsistent and I frustratingly could find my keys as easily. What the tile taught me was to be mindful of my keys and to check for them at the big transition spots (like before leaving work, before locking the door and heading out). So, Tile taught me to mind my keys better because the technology became unreliable. 😂😂

Each morning, I fill two pages with my rambling thoughts, dumping them onto the page so that I have more mental capacity for the day ahead.
