I saw this movie alot on HBO in 1996. Jeremy Irons was awesome as Simon Gruber. Those riddles and puzzles were great. Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson had great chemistry.

@@robertlangmuir86 I have always thought this of De Niro. He is basically always the same character with a slight mood change, but not big enough to matter. Then I saw Awakenings and saw his range. But other than that, I find him fairly overrated.

I have NEVER understood people laughing at Die Hard 2 and saying it was crap. It's my favorite one. It's so fun, snowy/Christmasy, has a cool setting, a scary concept that could happen to any of us, and it's just a perfect action movie.
@ScarysReviews

it's dark, has pretty much the same level of gnar, action as the 1st, is more Christmassy than the 1st, Solid sequel. John is tested physically, where the 1st, it was mentally, the 3rd, whit. the 4th, tested the audience, the 5th, TESTED THE FRANCHISE. 2 is 1 of the best sequels, the 5th is crap, 4, passable.

For me it could never rise above being "Die Hard 1, but at a airport." It really is just the first film all over again. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually just re-used the same script but just added the new setting. I'm usually ok with sequels being a repackaged take on the original film. But for some reason Die Hard 2 isn't exciting enough to overcome quite literally being "Die Hard, again." First, it's largely kind of boring imo. After the first act and first big action beat the narrative just kind of lulls and spins its wheels without much energy or momentum. We're just waiting for the next action scene. I've seen the film numerous times and the film still can't really recall the film in any great detail. Airport. Terrorists. A shoot out, the money shot of McClane using the ejector seat...that's really it. The action itself isn't as memorable or tense as the first film, either - just generic boom-boom bam-bam stuff without the expertly executed shot composition, blocking, and editing found in McTernan's films. The villains are more bland, too. Eh, I WANT to love Die Hard 2. It's just very un-exciting.

This is just a perfect action movie. Nuff said 😆 But seriously, John McTiernan has put the same effort he did in the first one. The script is well written (if you ignore the goofs), the characters are perfectly written, the chemistry between Willis and Jackson is crazy. All in all, Die Hard 3 cemented itself into legendary status. My personal favorite scene is the opening, that explosion out of nowhere without any buildup is just phenomenal. Also, given permission to ride thru Central Park was something I never expected. Also also, Vajna is pronounced more like Vaina, he's hungarian and J is pronounced differently🙂

I work in the Federal Reserve building depicted in this movie. The gold is really there. Its the largest gold vault in the US, even larger than Fort Knox. And when you are down in the vault, you can hear the subway going by. However, the subway tunnel is much further away than what is shown in the film. In fact, that Wall Street stop was a fake. The real one is several block further south. When they were building the fake subway stop and filming the scenes there, Bank staff were watching out of the windows. One thing that drives us crazy is how easily the bad guys entered the building. I assure you there is no way you are getting in, just by saying you have “an appointment”.

Here's what I like about the Die Hard movies, at least the first 4, I haven't seen the 5th one. The 3rd one deals with McClain having to save a city, and the 4th one deals with McClain having to save a country.

One more bit of trivia, the credits to this movie will say "South Carolina Crew." Despite still being in New York in the film, some of the movie was shot in Charleston, SC (where I'm from). The biggest scene, but not the only scene shot here, was Bruce and Samuel L. falling off the bridge onto a cargo ship. That bridge was the Grace Memorial Bridge built in 1929 (next to it, was a similar but wider Pearman Bridge, built in 1966). Both bridges were blown up once the Ravenel Bridge (a suspension bridge) was built in 2005. At the time, Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson were filming here, I was in high school and working at a movie theater called The Ultravision (which was torn down in 1999). That's when Samuel L. Jackson walked into the theater. There's a story to that I won't share now, but I will say he came to see the movie Jason's Lyric, and was very friendly to us. Too bad smartphones weren't around yet, because I would have gotten a picture with him, since it wasn't long after Pulp Fiction shot him to the A-list. People just didn't walk around, or go to work with a camera in their pocket back then.

"This Time He Has Shoes.... But He Also Has A Headache." It should have been called Die Hardest.

I was 16 when this movie came to the dollar theater for a long run. My best friend & I saw DHWA six times, two of which were in the same day. It was a cheap something to do back then that was better than burn gas driving around. This was an ultra modern movie theater in 1992 or so then was switched over to a dollar theater when they took out the left half or the theaters to build out more strip mall shops. Sorry, memories just came flooding back. That friend passed away 2006 from static fibrosis which I knew he had from the day we became friends on the bus as 12 year olds.

Also don't forget the score. Using the instrumental version of the famous theme song ''WHEN JOHNNY COMES MARCHING HOME AGAIN''. Awesome !

Great video. The ‘not fresh’ criticism upon release was probably due to the fact that ‘Speed’ and ‘Blown Away’ came out within a year of Die Hard3. Critics were probably tired, this being the 3rd ‘mad bomber’ to come out. Love the movie, I watched it in the theater opening weekend. McTiernan’s commentary on the BluRay is worth listening to. Cheers

I remember going to see this at the theater . Tickets were like 4.25 so making 366 mill is more impressive than todays market which tickets are 15 dollars plus

I remember watching the making of special on TV before the movie came out. It was awesome. The movie itself was incredible up until the weird ending, which just felt tacked on and anti-climactic. They should have just ended it with the ship exploding.
