The bad CGI used on Arnold's face took me out of this film when I saw it in the theater. I wonder if some people are like myself and just like to see an actor play in a role and allow suspension of disbelief to let the viewer see a young Arnold (T-800). The characters definitely needed more nuance,Beale and Ray. So the two most important performances are wooden. The action was kind of stale. The robots look too much like transformers at the time. . . The original and its sequel as far as I'm concerned are their own thing. That being said this movie was serviceable but had a lot of potential. It's like there's a fantastic story to be mined but they didn't dig deep enough. Some pretty cool scenes scattered here,and there and that's it. Terminator 2 was so big because it had Big steaks and you felt the steaks. Collective fear of nuclear destruction was still in people's minds. You can't just copy the same formula to make a hit film or have some of the same elements. What reverberates with an audience at one time can't be duplicated with a newer audience. Just my humble opinion because I still watch these movies, and I still have fun with them for what they are.

One of the big issues is that Terminator 2 literally wrapped everything up perfectly even with the original ending being taken out. Terminator salvation should not have focused on some Robot man who gives away his heart but it should have been focusing on Kyle Reese the entire time. John Connor should have only been there to move the plot along by giving Kyle Reese his mother's photo and the end of the movie is him sending Kyle back in time along with the Terminator that protected him.
@CJBenjamin30004 ай бұрын
Terminator 2 didn't wrap things up perfectly. Once Arnold was destroyed, Jon Connor should have disappeared. If they ended Judgment Day, then there's no reason to send Kyle Reese back. He doesn't have sex with Sarah Connor. Therefore, Jon Connor is never born.
@Anthony-17014 ай бұрын
@@CJBenjamin3000 I don't think back to the Future rules apply. You're acting on the premise that going back in time to prevent an action therefore remove the reason to go back in the first place. Since this never happened in the film we can conclude that time travel in The Terminator Universe will drop somebody in the past and they therefore become part of that reality and timeline they arrived in. Any alterations to the Future would not affect them because for them even though they are in the past they are still moving linearly into their own future. They have only created a new timeline to move forward in even if their parents or younger self are wiped out.

John wasn't the first leader to send Kyle back and we don't know why he went back. We just know that Kyle was sent back BEFORE the first movie for some reason and then John Conner was born and became the leader of the resistance. John knew Kyle was his dad and sent him back in a recurring loop. We don't know how many times Kyle was sent back, but we know the first time, it wasn't by John. Other people could have even been sent back that were not Kyle for whatever reasons. NOTHING is wrapped up until the first time before time travel is done.

As I understood it, the DP was checking light levels during a rehearsal, which in many other productions is not unusual. Only in this case, the actor involved was extremely sensitive to distraction, and temperamental. I severely doubt the DP was so clueless to be walking behind actors during a filmed performance. It is general procedure that all on-set activity ceases when the camera rolls, which is why the Assistant Director yells, "lock it up" before the camera rolls.
@Soldier4USA20054 ай бұрын
@@aliensoup2420 Even during a rehearsal, people don't move around on a set. The rehearsal isn't just for the actors, but for sound or stunts or whatever. At minimum, it's rude as people are trying to get something done. Especially the actors who are in character. How do I know? Worked in the industry for as while. And as the recording states, it wasn't the first time the guy did this. This tells me he had a habit of walking around when he wasn't supposed to. As for "lock it up", never heard of it. Not even when in film school. Not saying it's never been said ... but that it's not a normal phrase like "traveling" or "flying in". Both are phrases used when moving around the set. The former is what someone says when they "travel" in front of the camera. It's to warn those near it to not freak out if looking through the lens for focus or lighting. The latter is what you say when en route to somewhere. Be it to deliver a prop, bring coffee, or to go somewhere when called. In addition, as someone else already said, imagine being the actor who has spent hours trying to get a line in a really difficult scene right and some dude goes walking onto the set, in your field of view, to tweak a light. Now imagine being that actor after that guy has done this multiple times.

They cut that footage and subplot, and reshot Helena's scenes to make her a face of Skynet. For those interested, you can find snippets of footage of this subplot in a VFX reel for the film on KZbin. The Sarah Connor Chronicles was a lot of fun to watch. There was a strike (writers? actors? dont remember exactly) that messed with a lot of tv shows that year. Season 3 was cancelled because of it. There were photos going around the internet that were supposed to be of a UFO. later we found out those pictures were supposed to be for an Alternate Reality Game for the 3rd season that never happened.

Your thoughts about T4 is exactly my thoughts. I even saw it 3 times in the theater. Yea, it had issues, but its a far better film than the next two Terminator films which i deleted in my memory banks. Good review Minty!

The worst thing about this movie is that it was the reason why they cancelled Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles . They didnt want two different terminator storylines out at the same time . The Sarah Connor Chronicles is the true sequel to T2 .

If they want to do a successful terminator movie, it should be in the future war and self contained with nothing to do with previous characters. Could be evacuating civilians, a mission to capture weapons or technology… whatever, but they should drop trying to “continue” what’s already been done to death.
@brianwillis15774 ай бұрын
well they could do it...but in this modern day and age woke dei would kill any chance of it being good.
@Datan0de4 ай бұрын
The first Tim Zahn novel set just before Salvation would fit that perfectly, since it focuses on the lives of average people trying to survive whole the city they live in is being systematically brought under Skynet control.

Another thing you probably didn't know about TS is that in the scene where the 1/2 terminator guy is on the rack and John Connor comes walking up to him, there's a reason for the lighting the way it was between them. Apparently the acting styles between the 2 men were very different and the lighting is meant to underscore that fact.

I asked someone that worked on the movie what's MCG like, and the exact response I got was "Complicated." Not sure what the person meant. And funny thing that he was involved in the Lethal Weapon tv series which also got audio leaked of the lead yelling on set. Not saying is MCG leaking the audios but is a big coincidence. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I remember hearing that they had plans for 4 seasons.

We went *hard* for Terminator Salvation. I played the Resist Or Be Terminated online game (and commanded the most powerful faction, Skynet Root), submitted a video that ended up getting incorporated into the guerrilla marketing campaign, bought basically everything related to the movie (the art book is gorgeous, and gives a lot of insight into the evolution of the movie), and have a cardboard T-600 stand-up from the 7-11 cross promotion guarding my attic. But the peak was that my wife and I flew out to California for our summer vacation just so we could ride the rollercoaster. Worth it! We also made a side trip to LA for the sole purpose of getting our photo taken on Pico Blvd.

It was my understanding that at one point, there was EVERY intention to tie "The Sarah Connor Chronicals" and the "Salvation" trilogy together in a satisfying manner providing a complete and final wrap-up for the entire franchise. Too bad we never got to see all of that...
@logangodofcandy4 ай бұрын
It cannot be wrapped up until skynet is stopped and time travel is never invented.
@Datan0de4 ай бұрын
Nope. TSCC, T3, Salvation, Genesys, and Dark Fate are all independent from each other, just all following on from T1/T2. The only thing that cross-pollinated between them is that the (awesome) T-1 units in Terminator 3 were included in the prison camp scenes in Salvation. Otherwise, there was never any intention of reconciling the various continuities together.

Excellent review , and delivery,Minty. I'm with you about the personal head cannon. T1 & T2 are Unmatchable, however I enjoy T3 & T4 as extended content. Anything after that is a convoluted mess. Salvation is probably the closest version to what I'd always hoped see from the franchise, the War. The scenes of the future war in T1 are amongst the Greatest Sci Fi shots to ever be caught on film and an entire film shot like that(80s film look and practical special effects) , telling the story of Kyle Reese growing up in that world, and the events leading directly into the beginning of T1 would be a EPIC. Rock on Minty

Terminator: Salvation. I had really high hopes at the time but let down. As time went on I think more and more people, including myself, appreciate it for what it is. A movie I always wanted to see made as a kid growing up with the first two Terminator movies. Some of my favorite parts of those movies involve the scenes from the future war.

It had a few flaws, but it remains one of my favourites. For one thing, it actually captured some of the true menace and horror elements of the original Terminator - always annoyed me that T2, while a great film, totally abandoned the repulsive inhuman element of the T800; like the fact that because he has living flesh over a metal body, it doesn't cope with damage, and the flesh rots, and the terminator starts to stink. Terminator Salvation had some nice moments that revived the actual terror of the machines; the inhuman aspect. Also has to be said, sounds like Bale is a bit of a fool, and the film would have been better without him causing so many changes.

Another awesome video Minty you legend. I really enjoy this movie as the action scenes are pretty awesome. In fairness to Christian Bale when you’ve been rehearsing for a part then taking the steps to put your mind away and let your character you’re portraying take over it’s difficult to keep the two apart when something sets you off
@OzzyHamid-cl2fi4 ай бұрын
16:45 Bale was right to shout at that fool walking on set during his scene
@aliensoup24204 ай бұрын
Not really. It was during a rehearsal that the DP or gaffer walked into the scene to check light levels, which is common practice. If the Director and producer were aware of Bale's sensitivity to distraction, they should have established a lock-down rule for rehearsals. I would blame it on a lack of communication. A film set is a hectic environment right up to the moment the camera rolls - everybody is scrambling to get things done in whatever time they have to do it - even during rehearsal. Apparently nobody was aware how sensitive Bale was to this practice until he blew up. He should have alerted the Director or AD to his sensitivity.

Salvation had really great world building. I feel like most of the sequels failed to make the time or place feel important like 2 and this one does. 3 kinda did too, but the Terminator design was iffy in that one.

The lighting guy did the same error multiple times. He deserved the screaming rant. If he wasn't Union, he would have should have been fired. I didn't feel the leaked rant spoiled the reputation of the movie in any way. It might have hurt Bale's reputation. I did really like your observation and comments about Bale's accent and that he may have still been in character.
