I’m a Special FX makeup artist and got to work with Doug Bradley on a film. He was awesome and a really great guy. He remembered everyone’s name and treated everyone with the utmost respect. I ended up getting a commission a few months later to make a life size Pinhead but ended up just sculpting, molding, casting and painting a life size Pinhead bust. When they replaced Doug as Pinhead was a horrible move! Doug is Pinhead period!

The one thing about Pinhead that has always stood out to me over anything else is his voice, it's very easily recognizable, he has such a creepy villainous voice, that's only one of the reasons I'm basing my opinion that nobody can portray Pinhead on-screen like Doug Bradley, nobody can even come close

It's a common misconception that Pinhead and the other Cenobytes are villains. The later movies even apparently fell into that misconception. The Cenobytes are not villains. They're completely neutral. They're not interested in people that don't come looking for them. They only get violent when someone calls them and then tries to get out of it. They've even been shown to be MERCIFUL, in that a couple of times we see them let someone go who opened the box without knowing what it was. It wasn't until the later movies that they, for some reason, became aggressive and started preying on people who didn't intend to summon them. That was the point their interest as characters fell apart for me. They're deceitful and manipulative, yes, but they're not villains. They simply come to people who open the box and offer them experiences beyond their imagination. If the person declines, they're free to go. If the person accepts, however, they're in for a world of pain. They're a "be careful what you wish for" scenario, not stalking villains bent on the suffering of uninterested people. That all went out the window with Hellraiser 3, and all the subtlety and compelling nature of the characters went with it.

In the Hellraiser Lore, years after her 1st encounter with the Cenobites, Kirsty Cotton agrees to become the Hell Priestess, taking Pinhead's role leading the Cenobites. Keeping my fingers crossed hoping that gets made into a Hellraiser movie (since Doug Bradley has stated he doesn't intend to play the character Pinhead in the future). That would be so much better than that last "movie" they tried to pass off on us a few years ago... (cough cough... Hellraiser:Revelations). There's even some rumors they want to make a reboot of the original ( kinda like Halloween, Friday 13th, and Nightmare of Elm Street).

If you have read any of Clive Barker's darker series, you find that he often paints humans as being the greater evil of anything. A book that features literal 'monsters', the Nightbreed, has the monsters being more compassionate than one of the human characters.

I gotta agree... Bloodlines was really good. It focused more on "The Box" (aka Lament Configuration) and how it came to be. The "space station-that-turns-into-a-big-version-of-the-box" (aka Elysiam Configuration) was a little far-fetched, but I loved the characters (especially The Siamese Twins (since I am a twin) mainly because it takes the fear of losing your twin and twists (no pun intended) it into something completely morbid).

Nightmare is a slasher series, slashers are practically mainstream horror, and all 8 movies had cinematic releases.... Only Hellraiser 3 follows a somewhat slasher formula (and suffers greatly for it), the rest are definitely not mainstream horror.... and only the first 4 had cinematic releases. A lot of people know of Hellraiser, and know the character, but haven't actually seen the movies.... or didn't like them.

I'm not going to lie. Frank & Julia were in my nightmares as a kid growing up more often than the Cenobites. But whenever I saw a wall breaking apart & bright light shining between the cracks it always lead to me praying to wake up before the Cenobites came which they did a few times. I remember waking from those dreams with an anxiety attack legit. No fun as a kid even as a young adult.

Wow man. Your parents shouldn't have let you watch that as a kid. I remember the video store we would rent from had a *Hellraiser* boxed set - it had the first three movies on VHS in it. I always used to sneak off when we went to rent a movie so I could look at the box and the picture on the back of Frank, propped up against a white wall, completely skinless with _"HELP ME I AM IN HELL"_ written on the wall in his own blood. That, and the pictures of the cenobites, was both terrifying and intriguing and I would fantasise what the movies were about, knowing I would have terrible nightmares if I ever saw them.

Pinhead is the ultimate horror character, no other horror character can equal, or defeat him, (well, except for Dr. Channard.) Jason, Freddie, Michael, Leatherface, The Tall Man, etc., would not stand any chance ever at all, in any combative fights! P.s., Only Hellraiser, and Hellbound/Hellraiser 2 are the only valid, and credible movies, all the others, are pure rubbish.

chubby bunnygamer How come Pinhead didn't take down Dr. Channard in Hellbound then? Dr. channard is easily the most powerful cenobite in the Hellraiser character world. The Doctor is the one who sealed his own doom when he got killed off, no one else killed him.

+T.T.G Well, if Freddy could somehow get Pinhead into the Dream Realm, he MIGHT have a chance. But I agree that Pinhead would eviscerate him on every other playing field. Three villains who'd have a good chance against Pinhead are the Djinn, Valak, and Pazuzu...but only if they play their cards right. I also agree that Hellraiser 1 and 2 are the best, but I thought Hellworld was kind of interesting. And hey, it's got Lance Henriksen and Khary Payton.

Minty, there's another bonus fact about pinhead: Pinhead originally didn't have pins in his head, The makeup designer for the first hellraiser movie had placed the pins in his head when he originally came up with the design of the makeup and in order to keep the lines straight, placed the pins in his head, The director liked the look and had it kept in stating that it added a more frightening element to the character

Hellraiser Revelation did get something right that the other late entries didn't, it got back to the Sadomasochistic roots of the Cenobites. The first couple movies, and the book, make it clear the Cenobites aren't just torturing for the heck of it, they are experiencing ultimate pain so that they can also experience ultimate pleasure. HR:R got that part right. The actor who played Pinhead though just didn't have the right look. Apparently he put on quite a bit of weight after he was cast so he no longer had the gaunt look.

The box is merely a way to summon the cenobites. The cenobites themselves in their purest form aren't evil. They punish the wicked i.e. Frank and Julia in the first and second movies respectively. Sadly they were turned to slasher stereotypes starting with the 3rd movie.

Fact: The director of the last Hellraiser movie was once Doug Bradley's make up guy for either Hellraiser 4 or 5 and then on up until the last one. Doug didn't want a part of the last one because of it's poor quality. Now said director is in charge of the new Hellraiser movie which again Doug Bradley has no part in it because he was told he had to sign a contract stating that he could not talk about the film at all to anyone. But recently Doug did wear the his Iconic look for a special event for Hellraiser which I wish I could have been there or have seen the video because let's face it Doug Bradley is Pinhead.

I cringed through the whole movie. I'm a *huge* Hellraiser fan (I like all the movies to varying degreess except for that one), and I was so disappointed that it even got the approval to be made. It really brought the entire series down.

In my mind there is only one Pinhead and that is Doug Bradley, I met him a few years ago and I couldn't even speak I was just in total awe of him. Doug was offered the part of PINHEAD but before they sent him a copy of the script they wanted him to sign an agreement relating to insurance against if the script was stolen..this offended Doug greatly as he'd always been trusted up till that point so he basically told the m to shove the film where the sun don't shine!

exactly! as much as i would’ve loved for the cenobites to have more screentime, the first two films would’ve made them less enigmatic if they had appeared more often in them. i think they show up just enough to set the atmosphere and leave you wanting to see more of them.

I don't think any franchised villain has ever been treated with such lack of respect by the studio as Pinhead was. They didn't care if he was good or not, i dont even think they cared that their money grab ruined what could have been a franchise larger than Friday the 13'th. Low budgets, tight schedules, and censorship ruined what could have been something great. Edit: now that i think about it, it reminds me of today's video game industry.

As much as I like pinhead and the tall man I would have to go with Channard. Only because he was overpowered by being connected to Leviathan. In Hellraiser 2 he made quick work of Pinhead and his gash. Not sure how he would fair against tall man but Leviathan could be the deciding factor.
