Just a word of encouragement for anyone worried about an upcoming induction... My induction was a sudden change of plan that ended up happening due to extremely low amniotic fluid at 39 weeks and 2 days. They started me off with cytotec because my cervix was hard and closed, I was nowhere near labor. I was in the hospital overnight without any cervical change at all (and annoying false labor contractions) for 10 hours and my midwife was talking about the next method of induction.... and my water broke on its own with her standing next to me! Baby was born 3 hours later and I had an easy labor. So an induction can totally be part of a great birth story!

Thank you! I am being induced March 8th. I am so excited and so nervous. Can't wait but totally can lol. I want him here but I am also in college so the longer he stays in there SAFELY the better for my semester. But I want him out safely so I will do what I am told.

I had an induction I didn't want to have. It took 26hrs to get 6cm. I was in so much pain and I waited until I was suffering not just in pain before I asked for the epidural 21 hours in. It was terrifying, my daughter was slightly off center in my pelvis and her placenta was deteriorating so she was having decels and my contractions were coupling. I had a single contraction that lasted an hour because the pitocin was too high too fast. But it was still the most empowering beautiful amazing experience of my life. If you need an induction, you deserve a happy birth memory, and if you're like me getting induced after multiple pregnancy losses, you deserve a healing birth memory. I waited until I was sitting in bed silently sobbing, terrified of having to keep going before I got the epidural because I wanted a natural birth. Epidural is not a cop out.

Bless your heart I lost my first baby in my 3rd trimester I was induced of course and gave birth to her she was only 2 lbs my poor baby. I'm now heading into my 3rd Trimester once again and they already have a plan to induce me at 39 weeks if everything goes to plan I pray it goes smoothly.

My induction took 8 hours, start to finish, and I only had to push for 10 minutes. (: 39w1d, when I walked in my cervix was already front and center, dilated to a tight 2, and effaced 90%, and I had my water broken and went straight to pitocin. I was in active labor by 1:30pm, and baby arrived at 4:24pm. I almost got an epidural, but in the time it took them to check me and go ask for an anesthesiologist, and then come back in to check me again, I went from a 6 to a 9 and decided I was gonna do it on my own. I wouldn't change my labor for anything, and my little munchkin was well worth the work. (:

Thank you so much for your videos it really helped me be prepared for my induction! I had an induction a week ago at 39 + 6 for unstable lie. I had wonderful experience, thankfully I was allowed to eat up until my water was broken. I really trusted my OB because he had listened to me all through out my pregnancy and was there for my induction. Total I was in labor for 14 hours, the last 4 were pretty rough but was able to deliver without epidural with the help of amazing nurses and my husband. Once I was at 10 cm pushed for under 10 min. For other mamas who are worried about induction, just wanted to share a positive story! Like she said, you got this!

@@Nurse_zabe He came the 13th after I had some tampon with medication inserted behind the cervix. It was a really short and really intense birth, but we are both fine, and I have to say that watching your videos on labor made the experience much less frightening. I was standing up for most of the contractions, and was only in active labor for two hours, which I understand is very short for a first time mom. Baby is happy and healthy, but he was 20% below the percentile in growth, so he is very tiny. We're hoping to grow a lot quickly!

I so wish I had watched this before I had my baby! I was induced starting at 39+2 (4-day induction) for mild pre-e and I had NO idea about the monitoring after each intervention. I started with miso tablets and did 2 hours on, 2 hours off before the next dose. The delivery bed felt like metal. It was even worse when I got the Foley balloon later and had to lay there with awful back contractions. One hour into monitoring, I begged my nurse for a break from monitoring to shower and evaluate if I wanted pain meds (baby looked good on the monitor) and she said no. Cut to my mom and sister telling her I was refusing monitoring for the moment and would resume after a 20-minute shower break. It is YOUR delivery and you are the boss! Thank you Nurse Zabe for the informative video, I will keep watching to prepare for when it's time for baby #2 ☺️ You can ask for alternative monitoring schedules, like 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off, which I didn't find out until the third day of my induction. 😭. I think being in the right headspace as you mentioned is really important as leading up to delivery, it's stressed that women aren't meant to labor in bed, but with the monitoring associated with induction you can end up laboring in bed for most of the time.

I watched this video months ago when I was binging pregnancy videos. I’m now 38+1 and I was told yesterday that baby isn’t growing as well as she should so we’ve opted for an induction TOMORROW. I’m in the UK so slightly different but more or less the same. The positive affirmations you give out are exactly what I need and I’m still hoping for the relaxing, chilled birth I want regardless of how it begins. Thanks so much for your help, I love all your videos

I had my 1st son on the first day of the flu quarantine in 2020, I was 40+3 days pregnant that day. I got a foley balloon on the previous night, so I've dialated a little bit, but it wasnt enough, then I had prostaglandin jelly, which led to breaking of my water. After 3 painful and terrible hours, with 3 doctors pushing my baby put of me with the help of some kind of vacuum-device, my son has arrived, with a funny looking head. I was physically in a shock, my legs couldnt stop shaking while they sew me up, I lost a ton of blood, I couldnt even sit up for an hour. It was a really-really bad 3 hours of my life, but it led to holding my beautiful and perfect son. Now, I am 25 week into my 2nd pregnancy, and I have binge-watched almost all of your videos, and somehow I am not that afraid about my second delivery. Thank you for that!

preparing myself for my induction on Thursday (hopefully), I did want a natural labor but at this point, I'm ready for the induction. The antispation is killing me and I just want to be with my baby (and I'm over due by 5 days) and be done with being pregnant 😅 This is very useful and keeps my mind at ease because all I kept seeing was horror induction stories and it was getting me worried but also remaining pregnant is also a risk as well.

With my second kiddo, I had two stretch and sweeps to induce labour. The second s&s was successful and I went into labour not long after. Yes it was momentarily uncomfortable while being induced but it's all worth it! Know that these types of procedures are for the better, meditation and breathing techniques will help you through ☺️

I had my first baby by induction and yes, it took A WHILE! I was induced at 37 weeks because my baby had an intrauterine growth restriction. So obviously my body wasn't ready to go into labor yet, so it was a very slow process. My cervix was not dilated at all when I went in and it dilated very slowly once they started the induction. Didn't want any medication because originally I wanted to go all natural and have my baby at a birth center but obviously when they discovered the growth restriction, my pregnancy was deemed high risk and I had to have her at a hospital. That being said, I did end up with an epidural, even though I was so opposed to it in the beginning. I was afraid of it. But once they broke my water to get things going (I'd already been there like 2 days and had been transferred to the delivery room) the contractions immediately became super intense. So I did get the epidural. It would still be a while before it would be time to push. In my case it was great after that because I got some rest. I slept for several hours and woke up to push :) minor pain during that but it wasn't bad at all during pushing and I didnt mind because it was not that bad and I was almost done. She was born at 3:40am, 4lbs 5oz and spent 9days in the NICU. Anyway, baby girl is 4 years old now and I'm 37 weeks pregnant with my second baby, another girl! 🥰💜 Everything is going amazing with this one and she's already about 6lbs 9oz!! So I'm very encouraged by that :)

I had my baby girl on the 14th!! She came super fast, my contractions began in the morning and I was less than 3cm dilated. I finally was able to get to the hospital at almost 3pm and when they checked me I was 8 or 9!!!! I gave birth at 3:56pm 🥰🥰❤

Thanks so much for this video! Soooo helpful and encouraging, I’ve been advised by my healthcare provider to have a medical induction due to static growth and also development of mild hypertension. I declined at 37 weeks as it was overwhelming to hear that, as my pregnancy has gone extremely well til that point. But now that they keep monitoring my high blood pressure and I have to keep going back and forth to the hospital everytime it goes up, I’m honestly tired of it! I’m now 39+1 and just want this baby out cos I’m sick of hearing about my high bp loool. This video seriously helped me prepare and be aware about induction. I feel ready to do it and I also feel that baby is happy - she is engaged in the pelvis already and in position so I think it’s a good time to get induced!

I wish these videos were around when I was induced with my 1st. I had to be induced at 37 weeks due because I was high risk. I was so nervous but so eager to meet the baby that it seemed to drag on and on. The whole process from start to finish took 23 hours though. I wasn't able to move as much as I would have liked because I had to wear a monitor for baby and it wasn't connecting correctly when i would walk around the hallways. The next morning they broke my water and I got the epidural and had to stay in bed obviously. This time around they're saying there's a chance of induction again for same reasons, but I feel more ready this time and these videos help. Love watching your videos no matter what the subject is though :)

Wish I had your helpful tips about not leaning back during an induction and keeping hips asymmetrical. I had terrible back labor while on pitocin and needed an epidural due to uncontrollable shaking from pain. Second baby was natural labor starting slow and gentle and sporadic at 8am baby here without meds just after 5pm. Totally different story just like what you said. Love your videos! with my first one I got induced at the morning of day 41+2 with a little glasses of something (?) every two hours. (that was in Germany and I don't know what the stuff was called) Nothing happened for about a day and a half, at the end that day i told my midwife that I think I had contractions beginning to happen but I felt fine and the monitors didn't show contraction at all so they gave me break with the stuff but I had to stay in the hospital. That night I called the midwife in again because I felt like poo, couldn't slep, everything hurt, the works. I got on the monitor again and was told to lay there for almost an hour when staying still felt like torture. Monitor still showed no contractions and when the midwife came back and told me that it's probably just my nerves I threw up at her feet. I was in labor and I had my daughter 5 hours after that but nobody believed me until I was screaming bloody murder because the monitors were still showing no contractions at all. Great times. Little one was a little bit unhappy and pooped on my stomach within a minute of being born but she's doing fine now and we are expecting baby number two for the midlle of next year.

I’m surprised you didn’t include the thing I want induction patients to know! I was floated from postpartum to antepartum a couple weeks ago and one of the patients who was getting induced and her whole family were incredibly angry that she didn’t have an epidural yet. (She hadn’t had much cervical change and she wasn’t having regular enough contractions for the doctors to feel comfortable giving her one.) So my number one thing I want patients to know is that they should have a plan for pain management for the period BEFORE they can get an epidural. My hospital also doesn’t have telemetry monitoring and I doesn’t provide birth balls or encourage smart movement, so it’s not like we’re helping our patients much in that regard either.

Technically it actually was my first appointment just over the phone because of covid but they asked if I would want a Blood Transfusion if necessary. I was so thrown for a loop I didn't know how to answer. Thankfully my husband did and the nurse giggled, apologized, and told me she gets that response a lot... Or maybe I apologized...?

My last baby I started pit at 8 went into labor after antibiotics at 1030 and baby was here delivered by my amazing labor nurse at 2:02 pm. He was her 1st delivery on her own, I joked with my OB and her I have very fast labors. My induction was a nightmare experience. My contractions were on top of each other and my epidural wasn’t working properly (felt all the pain). I even got to labor at home for about 3/4 of my labor. It was so nice.

I was induced at 40 weeks and 4 days. My contractions coupled and tripled (so minimal breaks between) early on in the piece so I panicked a lot. No one had warned me of that. No one had told me I'd be monitored constantly either. At final stage of delivery the Pitocin stopped working and my contractions completely slowed....baby was in distress and I had an emergency c-section. Are c-sections more common with inductions? I wish I'd seen a video like this before I had my baby. The process traumatised me quite a lot.

i got induced with my second for iugr. was not told until afterward that they put cytotech on my cervix to try to keep me from bleeding too much and they didnt ask about breaking my water. they just said "baby is crowning so we are breaking your water" right as they did it. i also asked to not have my membrane swept but dr did it any way and forced my cervix to open from 1 to 2 cm.

I wish I could have kept moving during my induction but every time I moved she came off the monitor and the nurses came in and adjusted my belt. So I felt like I couldn't move around 😬 I feel like it wouldn't have taken 33 hours if I could have walked around and moved her out 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really wish you were my nurse for my first induction! I was induced at 41+2 and I did not know what I know now about the process. My cervix was so not ready and so stubborn that it broke the foley bulb when they pulled it out! the staff had me lay semi reclined in a bed for the majority of the time, and then pressured me into an epidural after my water was manually broken at 3cm...the epidural COMPLETELY paralyzed me and I wasn't even in pain, just anxious. No one helped me change positions either :( After 18hrs of starving, no sleep, being on pitocin, water broken, and fed up with my epidural I had cesarean consent forms shoved in my face and I went with it :( fast forward 2 years and I am 25 weeks pregnant and aiming for an unmedicated VBAC at a new hospital with a new OB. I feel fortunate to have a new provider that heavily supports VBAC and will strategically induce for a VBAC, so if I am faced with another induction, thanks to you I feel more informed about the process and have more confidence that it will go better than my first! Thank you again for all you do!

41 weeks now with no signs of labor so it looks like I’ll have to be induced, but the whole reason I didn’t want an epidural is because I’m terrified of being trapped in the bed like a paraplegic! With the long hours, and increased monitoring, is there any good advice for how to get up and keep moving during an induced labor?

My induction was 32 hours long and I wasn't allowed anything besides ice chips the entire time. No food or water at all. It was so draining. I couldn't sleep the entire time either and it started at night so I hadn't slept for that whole day before either. 😭

I wasn't allowed to eat solids when I was induced! I wish I saw this video I would've fought that, I was in labor for 15 hours. Also, because they broke my water they put a monitor on the baby's head, and I didn't realize until afterwards that they put it INTO the baby's skin. Kind of glad they didn't tell me though, it probably would've freaked me out lol

Nurse Zabe, can eating dates a couple weeks before you due date help to ripen your cervix?
@Nurse_zabe
@Nurse_zabe 5 жыл бұрын
There have been some studies that show that eating dates can help your uterus contract more strongly, have less need for induction or augmentation, have shorter labors and reduce the risk of postpartum hemorrhage. Whether that’s true or not we need more studies, but the worst thing that happens is that you’re regular, so by all means eat dates!! 💩

So, prostaglandins... At 42 weeks, my baby was healthy as can be, but my cervix showed no sign of letting her out, and my amniotic fluid was starting to get lower. I still don't fully understand why my body refused to open up (baby was 8lbs 6oz and almost 22inches long when born, I'm a small 5'4"and), but it took two doses of prostaglandins and my doctor being "mean" to my cervix to get labor started. Once things were going, I went from shut to 8cm in three hours. I breathed through the contractions, but didn't experience relief in between. I made it through without pitosin or pain meds, but I was in constant pain until I was able to start pushing. One of nurses said that it was because prostaglandins make the cervix more sensitive. Is that true?

I’m going in for induction in 3 days (at 38w6d) and I’m not super worried about it but I’m anxious about which side to believe😂 this is my first pregnancy but I’m already at least 4cm dilated, my cervix isn’t super soft but it isn’t hard either, it’s completely forward, im at least 80% effaced, and baby has been head down with lots of pressure for at about three weeks now. I’m fine with pitocin as soon as I walk in but I’m hoping we can try to let the water break on it’s own and go without an epidural. I haven’t felt any contractions whatsoever yet, just the weird pressure I mentioned that’s mildly uncomfortable. I know no one can tell me for sure, but if anybody else can tell me possibly what to expect with those stats I’d really appreciate it😂

Kayla Shively hey! I went in for induction at 5am but they didn’t start Pitocin until around 7:15am. I was already at 5cm then. The doctor came around 8 to break my water manually (it was fine just felt very strange to have that amount of warm liquid come out when you know you aren’t peeing😂) I asked for the epidural at 9:15 and had it by 9:40 when I was roughly 7cm dilated but it didn’t take so I still felt everything and didn’t have a catheter so I can’t tell you anything about what that’s like if you plan on going that route (I’m sorry!) i can tell you an epidural is pointless if you’re already at a 7 or 8 because that’s as bad as it’s going to get and I wish I wouldn’t have asked for it at all personally. I had my baby at 11:23am. I pushed for maybe 20 minutes. I had 4 stitches and recovered really well! Baby is all healthy at 4 months old now❤️ of course that’s all personal and every pregnancy is different but I hope yours is just as easy! (Still not easy but you know what I mean😂) also, don’t be afraid to use the bathroom afterwards! It was totally fine for me didn’t even burn! My vagina muscles felt very sore for about 2 months but not painful. Just like the day after you’ve done sit ups for the first time in months😂

Swimming (aka hydrotherapy) is great for practicing breathing techniques + reducing back pain, and moving about by walking/dancing/walking up stairs will help move baby into a prime position and can help move labour along.

What if me and my baby are totally healthy and on track and the only reason they want to induce is cus I'm "advanced maternal age" (I'm 35) And I'm SO OLD to be having my first baby? 😅 I just don't see how that is "medically necessary." If I had GD or high blood pressure or he wasn't moving enough or there wasn't enough amniotic fluid, I could see them being concerned and wanting to induce. But to base it only on my age even though my pregnancy has been healthy is kind of frustrating and makes me feel like they are treating me like a statistic and not a person. 😒☹️ I'm crossing my fingers that he decides to come naturally before their stupid deadline!! 😖🤞

Would you be able to record a video about your experience with moms that are preterm? or have preterm premature ruptured membrane? I'm pregnant with baby #2, and I'm just curious of what my chances are of delivering this boy around the same time as my first. My first son was born at 30 weeks after my membrane broke at 27 weeks. I stayed at the hospital for the entire time on bed rest. He was 5lbs 8oz. When i started dialting, they gave me a medicine to slow down because I sent from 3cm to 6cm in an hour. How many mom's births been similar? or mostly totally different.

Can you do a video on the pros and cons of elective induction? I was electively induced and we had our reasons at the time and ultimately it worked out....baby and mom are healthy and I delivered vaginally....but I still wonder how things may have been different if I had waited for natural labor. I was induced 5 days after my due date and size of baby was also a concern. My son was born 8 lbs, 11 oz and I'm a petite woman. Thanks!

I’m due December 2020. We have a real issue with childcare for my two young children because of COVID and my family being unable to travel here. I still don’t know who will watch them (local in law family are not practicing social distancing at all). I’m seriously considering an elective induction but I’m scared. My first labor was two hours, second was eight. Having an induction seems to makes sense for getting covid tested and trying to find childcare. Anyone else in this boat? What are you doing?

Does a second pregnancy basically count as a first pregnancy, if you were delivered early in your first? For example, I delivered my twins at 36+2 via c-section due to elevated blood pressure and I wasn't dilated or in labor. So I'm wondering if this pregnancy will basically be like a first, since I was never in labor. The plan right now is for a VBAC, provided everything is stable but the hospital doesn't allow inductions for VBACs.
@wildwillowtreeranch
@wildwillowtreeranch 5 жыл бұрын
I had an emergency c-section at 35 weeks (1st baby) i had VBACS for my other 6. My second birth was considered my "first trial of labor" it would be your first time trying birth that way, and it will probably take a long time (mine was 14 hours). Good luck! Im sure you will do fine.
