Thank you for this video! My daughter used to watch around 1 hour of tv everyday and we completely stopped and she went from 0 words to 50 words by the end of the week. Now she’s at 200 words 3 months later! Instead of watching tv when I’m doing chores she tags along and we talk about what’s going on I think it has helped her a lot!

Kate Z that’s amazing that your son has progressed to conversational speech with the help of your guidance with his communication . Quite often with babies, some children need more interaction with their parents throughout the day ,as well as reading , nursery rhymes and songs to give them that extra “ push” for language acquisition . Sometimes they don’t actually need formal Speech Therapy, but when parents have questions, it’s good to have an initial consult with the SLP or with an Audiologist if you suspect hearing impairment. In terms of “how long does it take for results in therapy “ we are often asked this question by parents , because they’re excited to see results! The answer is , it depends on the child’s severity of the language delay or speech disorder, the earlier the better of the identification of the diagnosis ,the better the outcomes ,as sometimes we see babies as early as infants to include babies with swallowing/ feeding disorders in NICU with a diagnosis of Dysphagia. In addition , “time in therapy” depends on their diagnosis , how motivated the child is during therapy sessions and the carry over of therapy strategies to the home and school environment Speech Pathologists depend and encourage parents to assist their child outside of the therapy sessions with given “speech homework” which is paramount in the success of the child”s language progression . Children do have “ explosions of language development “ often tied to other developmental norms such as crawling or walking and just exploring the world ! They have more to say and do , as they make their wants, needs , requests and desires known to their families . I hope this information was helpful and blessings to you Kate and your amazing son!

Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and all your other videos, in regards to children with speech delays. You gave really great tips and reinforcements. I'm a mom of two boys (toddler and an infant) my two and a half year old has a speech delay. He's extremely smart, very observant and a fast learner (very visual and hands on) but struggles with speech.. Your video calms my soul. Because of course as parents we feel as if we are doing something wrong.. I love the the part about not comparing them to other children. And having them look at your mouth, I've been doing that with my son as well. 👍 please keep the videos coming 😊

This is a very good video compared to the vast majority of youtube videos of a similar theme, most other videos it's obvious that it's a parent whos an extravert who has a child that's an introvert, people think that something is wrong if you don't enjoy communicating, children and adults, introverts are seen as defective.

Thank u so much for this video. My 3yo son doesnt talk much. His 1st pedia said we should bring him to a nuero cause he has a sign of autism just because he doesnt look into her eyes, she said my son is not focused. When i bring my son to the other pedia she talked to my son then to me asking for my sons daily activity then she said its more possible for a language confussion. We are a filipino we talked our local language at home but my son keeps watchng english movies. After hearing what the 2nd pedia said we talked to my son n english language then yes he understand us and talked a little. Maybe thats why he has a speech delay. Ive been searching on the internet on how to correct and help my son. Luckily found your video. Very simple but informative and useful. My 2 year old has a speech delay and he loves Pixar cars and everything with wheels. One day I was putting his cars in a toy wagon saying in when I put them in and out when I took each out. I was putting them in and all of a sudden my son screams “out” and throws a temper. I was a proud mama saying yaaay while my son was screaming. Also he does good while holding the object. I was trying to get him to say banana before I gave it to him but he wouldn’t say it. I gave it to him and he pats me on the leg and looks at me and says banana.

His doctor has set up a meeting to have him tested for autism which breaks my heart to think so! My oldest who just started pre-K in 3months has learned so much! & I’m going through speech delay process with him! I felt as a failure & guilty to see my friends kids speak so much! Even my baby sister who is just 2months older than my 4 year old speak so clear both English & Spanish! I’ve stopped comparing them & focus on the positive & on how proud I am of him! We are waiting to do speech therapy, but it is all online due to covid. I am hoping I have been trying to do research online before our appointments since I am not sure how well it will go on the computer vs in person.

love this video.... my little girl talks so much at home but wouldn't talk in school or to anyone but me and her dad and she's 4... I'm so worried....what do you think i should do so confused to why this is happening..
@DrakesNest6 жыл бұрын
Have you talked to your doc about it?? It wouldn't hurt to get her evaluated...my son was def way more chatty at home then out...it may just be a shyness thing or a sensory thing. Sometimes crowds or too much noise can give some kids a sensory overload. Is she talking in complete sentences at home?
@destiny2610006 жыл бұрын
I haven't spoken to my doc about it not yet anyway .... and yes she does talk complete sentence very well and home.. I don't know maybe she just shy.... she only whispers in school weird...

I have 25 month year old baby. He does not respond to his name and does not make eye contact and only say mama papa and dada randomly. Health visitor came and saw him and suggest he will need appointment with speech therapist and for hearing test. As long as I can see his hearing is ok. He does not want to play with me and whatever he get he just lie down with it. He does not like any toys for long he just get bored after some time. He likes to lie down with cooking pan and car. I am planning to give him to the nursery for 2 days a week 8 hour. Will it help him?

My son was around 18mnth when I noticed and two when we did evaluation...he isn’t bilingual but I have read speech delay can to be quite common in bilingual families:)
@chrisealwalker18683 жыл бұрын
Some children that are bilingual will have a delay in speech because their brains are trying to interpret and understand two languages... eventually, if there aren’t other issues you will notice the delay decreasing-CCC-SLP

lassus prophetam and your also apparently from a generation of people going online judging other people they don’t know and leaving rude comments on their videos. I talk and play with my children all day long, this video was meant to help parents with a child with a developmental delay...if your not here for that reason please don’t watch my video. If you are speaking at your regular conversation speech to your child you need to slow down. Your speaking to quickly . Not even ending your sentence before starting another
@DrakesNest6 жыл бұрын
I'm not , but thanks for pointing that out lol I actually mentioned in a speech video before to make sure to speak slowly and more clear to your kiddos. I am a fast talker, mostly bc where I am from...but I think I talk faster and say ummmm more on film bc of the awkwardness of talking to a camera, been working on that;)
