My son just turned 20 months old, and only says a few words. I’m a first time mom and I work from home so I try my best to dedicate time only to teaching him but I can do better tbh. His doctor has told me that he doesn’t seem to have any signs that he may be autistic yet. But I want to help him be verbal. I myself had a delay in speaking as a toddler and had to go to a speech therapist. I just want to help my baby boy flourish as best as I can. He acknowledges when I speak to him he understands when I talk to him, and he responds back to me when I talk to him but it’s mostly baby talk.

First of all, your videos are really helpful. Thank you for helping all the parents who are anxious or working with diagnosed kids. My son is 21months old. He has about 18 words and only 8 of them are clear, a stranger can understand them. The other 10 we can understand them but not others for sure. He says nana for banana and papel for apple stuff. He also spells almost 15 of the 26 alphabets and says numbers 1-10 with no clear words, an for one and so on. He points and does not have a toy preference or anything. He looks when we call his name but his attention is very very short. He will just turn and go about on himself.he understands directions, like sit, bring ur shoe, go say bye to dada when he goes to bed. I am already working with a speech therapist once every other week. What else do you recommend? I want him to catch up as early as possible. Thank you!

My son is half yes half no but we saw the pediatrician today for his 18 month wellness check and she also agreed we should have him evaluated so we’re waiting on that. He isn’t speaking at all, he shakes his head around and around and that was our first sign, he doesn’t answer to his name ever so that’s the second but he has great eye contact and smiles with us and he also loves to eat, he is not a picky eater whatsoever so that’s what I mean by half and half on that milestone list... I just want to be able to help him in any way I can, thank you so much for making these videos to educate us parents who have no clue where to start 💓

My grandson turned 2 in February. He talks a lot, but in his baby language. He can feed himself, drink out of a sippy cup, he bath himself, he is a busy bee, and love reading books, while on the potty, I need to read for him, and it must be out of a book of his choice. He will tell you a story in his baby language, with humor, but we do not understand a word he is saying. He can say mamma, pappa, ouma and oupa, that is all! As a grandma, I am a bit worried about it

Mary, I am from UK but live in Malaysia, thank you so much for your advice, just want to ask, I was taught (As a teacher) to always get your students to look at your mouth movements when learning to promounce words properly, do you agree? And if so, this age of wearing masks does not help at all, I, as a teacher of all school ages, frequently lower my mask so the kids can see how my mouth moves when pronouncing the words. I have a friend's 3 yr old son starting on Monday, he has been diagnosed as autistic, but he can understand what you say, but he can only make sounds, not words. I am going to try to follow what you have been teaching in your videos, so hopefully can help him, his behaviour is so far good, and loves pop up books, thank you so much for the help so far x

My toddler course would be perfect for you to help your son regain lost words, and increase language skills in general, and reduce problem behaviors. @DarkAngel-cj6sx3 жыл бұрын
My 3.5 years old son can tell me almost all flashcards I present to him and he understands everything I ask him to do like before his regression. However, the difficult task is to express himself on his own. He only ask me what he want like eat blueberries or give hands ( if he wants to show me what he needs) and want iPad. Otherwise, his scripts are gibberish but some real words come out here and there for there example he has been saying oh my God lol , or don't do this or car wash when he is pretending to wash his ( first time to match his words with what was actually happening) or wash dishes when he saw me doing it. So my take from your strategy is for me to use just one word when he show me what he wants ( he knows how to communicate with his hands a lot). He was diagnosed in September 2020 ( regressed at 3) Thank you

Yesterday my son's pediatrician stated told his mother that he may be borderline autistic because he isn't using any words. He's almost 23 months. He babbles and occasionally I may hear a "dada" but I'm not sure if he's directing it at me. So she recommended that he get tested. I think your shoebox idea might help. I also wondered if he should be back on daycare, as perhaps being around other kids might help. I do really like your shoebox idea though.

My 3 year old can say: Ball, Bye-bye, Mom, Dadda, Choo-choo and Boh (he's referring to his favorite one season show of Titipo on Netflix, drives me a bit bonkers to be honest) When I try and teach him new words he only points at the items. No attempts at speaking. He understands body parts. Points at them all with no problem. When we tell him we're going out he gets his jacket and tries to put on his shoes then tries to unlock the door. Comprehension isn't the problem I can't get him to attempt to speak. He points and grunts. I never socialized until I was 7 years old by my own verbal deficiencies. I rarely said anything to my mother. The doctors said I had ADHD to explain my poor schoolwork then a few years later with Asperger Syndrome to try and explain my awkwardness around people. The books that dictate the spectrum were updated a decade later and pushed me off that diagnosis I previously had. Which I find weird but I accept it. Wondering if my back history might be a piece to why my child is having a hard time learning the spoken word.

As a native french speaker, I only speak french to him and he follows most of my commands. And he interacts with his friends in English at his daycare. Even if you dont believe he is autistic, you should have him evaluated. I think the program is called early intervention. Its completely free and they come to your house. They evaluate for many things, not just autism. If he is just speech delayed they have a speech therapist that comes to you and works with your child to get him to talk! Like I said its completely free. My daughter was speech delayed and was talking after maybe a month or less of speech therapy! But he could be high functioning autistic. They evalutate for many things so you will know for sure either way and then help you after the diagnosis!

His sentences are pretty short. He won't say i played with lego today and it was fun, can we do it again. I need to get it out of him. I ask him what did you do today and he will say played with cars today and then i ask who was it with ? And he will say Lucy. He doesnt share anything or he doesnt really ask any questions. He usually narrates what he does and in third person. Levi jumping , levi is running, lets run, levi is eating toast. Once in a while he will use I instead of his name because we have been correcting him. I have noticed kids in his class will say, mommy, I read a book about dinosaurs today and he doesn't really share unless I ask and get it out of him. His pronounciation is very good. He is very good at imitating. How do I expand his sentences and make him have back and forth conversations?

He is good for taking instruction such as ‘go shower please’, ‘put your clothes on’ and he will do as i say. I know that he wanted to talk but instead of saying yes, he will only nod to me as a response. It is like his tongue is so stiff that he just mumbles the word instead of saying it. Once in a blue moon, he will say things like, ‘mom i dont know’ ‘i dont want that’ clearly, and he will only say things like that if there’s no one around. I have a 4 year old currently awaiting an evaluation that was held up by the pandemic since his third birthday. His receptive language is there. He understands everything said to him, and verbal direction. However he doesn’t have conversations with anyone really. He speaks simple sentences. He does pretend play. He has always pointed, we do make the request that he verbally says what he needs from us. Which usually he does. He has been alphabetizing things since he was 2, he has also known how to count to 100 since then. Now at 4 he can also read, if he doesn’t know the word it sounds it out. He knows shapes I’ve never even hear of (thanks KZbin). I was just wondering if your book would give me some tips/strategy to increase his expressive language as he’s nearing kindergarten. And we are trying to avoid someone just slapping a level on him by mechanically going down a checklist of autistic traits. Thanks! Look forward to a comment back.

I have a 3.5 year old grandson. He has a lot of the eating problems that you mentioned, but he cannot say a word, or even close to a word. He makes noises, but there is no distinct letter sound, its a whole lot of ahhhhhh type of sound (if that makes sense). There are lately a few small words that he seems to understand, which are bye bye, bath, and nap. He has no concept on how to play, nor does he even attempt to play with toys, including any activity involving water, which seems to be his most favorite activity (in which he really doesn't do much in the water. I got him a water table hoping that I could begin to teach him, and I am getting nothing. We don't know what he understands, how to get him to communicate, or how to even start teaching him. He has been to neurology, genetics, therapy (mostly physical) and have been trying to get him in for testing. With this Covid thing, we have not been able to get in. Please help us find a direction.

Thanks for these videos. I am an American living in Italy, we didn’t notice anything at first but as time went on we noticed that our 3 yr old was not really hitting those development milestones. He was just fascinated by numbers- counting by 2s or 11s. Everything is described by numbers- he uses the number of calories listed on the packaging to ask for certain foods. The cars are described by license plate numbers, the house addresses, the weight limit on the ladder etc. It’s always a guessing game trying to figure out what these random numbers are. It’s been so difficult finding English speaking help here. That’s why I started to look for online help. Now I fear that my youngest might also be on the spectrum. 😖

When he says mama I am not sure if he is calling me but I always look toward him and answer. He eating problems, he takes nothing from my pot and only wants snacks, Pediasure and juice. He also likes french fries. This I worry about because i often wonder if these things are enough to keep him healthy. I always give him my food, he pushes it away and walk away from me. It was just last year that he stop taking his bottle it was the only thing he wanted. It was when he started daycare they told me he cant continue on the bottle at his age and he started taking other things there.

Hi new to your channel. My son is 2.5 and says about 10 words. He understands a lot but has not advanced his vocabulary. He did have eating issues as baby and multiple swallow studies as an infant but he eats well now. He drinks out of sippy cup still but uses utensils (not well but he uses them) In between the words he uses correctly, he jabbers a lot. He was having tons of tantrums daily almost, but those have subsided dramatically and I'm hoping that I stumbled on to this shoebox program at just the right time. He gets weekly speech sessions but I think this will also help out greatly.
