@@Tolohtony I'm just a hobbyist mechanic, so I don't depend on my tools to make a living. My father was a diesel mechanic. He had Snap-On tools, and I have some of his tools in my tool box. In his era (1950-70) you couldn't buy a better ratchet wrench than Snap-On. Same if you needed a breaker bar. Their Sockets were all but indestructible. But not anymore. I returned a Craftsman ratchet that I wore out after 25 years of use before they ended supporting warranties and had no problem getting a new one. It has lasted me ever since. At the shop I have a Lysle creeper, the one from harbor freight broke on first use. While laying on the creeper it broke on the plastic where caster mounts. Return it got my money back. For reference I weight 215 LBS. The 1/2" swivel impact socket too kept breaking so I bought a gearwrench one that has been holding up pretty good. The pry bars I like but also they're not solid as a recognized brand they flex and will bend. The icon pry bar that's like 36" is pretty solid, worth the extra money. Impact sockets, torque wrenches, 1\2" extendible ratchet have been nice too.

Started buying tools 43 years ago and Sears use to be the go to place to get tools but they were ALWAYS expensive. Felt like getting screwed unless what you needed was 50% off sale price, but most everything was American made 🇺🇸 👍😁. Kmart had good inexpensive socket sets in metal trays made in Taiwan when I needed a few metric. J.C. Whitney had special tools very cheap and bought a lot from Harbor Freight whey were mail order only. Be aware of your needs so if a bargain crops up you can take advantage of it. So I told my kids if they wanted to get me a useful gift, HF had a 12v Drill Master drill and flashlight combo for $20. I had one of their 20 gal ones for over 10 years. sister-in-law's son cranked the back right out of the regulator so I upgraded to one of their oiled 29 gal models. Then went back, replaced the regulator on the 20 gal one and it still works great. Going to give it away to a friend. Would never buy hoses from them however. I never buy consumables like hoses, brads, bits, staples, etc from them. I think they make most of their money from their consumables and the price difference between theirs and name brand is not as great as on the tools. So, I buy tools from them, then match them up with name brand consumables and end up with a much better performing tool.

Went to the Topeka KS store today, 7/18/2020 and got pretty much everything I wanted for at home work-- I don't need the highest grade pro stuff, so that $19.99 Warrior cordless drill will do just fine, and even when I threw in the bit set, driver/bit set, wire brush, and drill holster it was still less than a premium cordless drill by itself I wouldn't use enough to justify it. Also got the oiled tanned leather tool belt (18 pockets), 6" bubble level, utility knife, replacement blades w/ dispenser (@ $4.99, it cost more than the 1.99 knife!), Hand jigsaw and blades, and I splurged and got the "pro" rip hammer for 7.49 instead of the claw hammer for 4.99 ( the rip just felt better), and a 1.99 4-bit screwdriver when I don't need to mess with the drill. I’d like to see a side by side comparison of the mechanics rolling seats. The Pittsburg piece is a great deal and I’m sure it rolls around nice and supports weight but how well built is it? One guy said, "So if I can't get the bolt loose and throw on a 4' pipe for a little more leverage and break, it I get a new one?" Yes. Even if I see the marks from the cheater pipe on the handle, always, every time, you get a new one. You can't beat that.

magnetic trays i make myself. i glue a speaker magnet, or a couple of hard drive magnets to the bottom of a dollar store stainless steel pet bowl with rtv. they are bigger, with deeper sides, and if you can find one at a garage sale for a quarter, or in a free box, it's a really cheap alternative that's actually better than one you can buy for a lot more. same thing with old muffin baking tins. lots of compartments to keep things separated, and handy when you take something apart to repair it.

As someone getting into the pro level. A impact socket is a impact socket. There all made to do the same thing. Mac does have the best sense mass makes for a better socket with impacts. But never really needed one. Now macs super low profile impact sockets are a definitely a way to go for today’s cars but today’s diesels. You can get away with a breaker bar and a regular low profile. Use a lot of harbor fright icon bluepoint snap on and a few Mac tools. Get this. The guys that make icon. Also make all of Mac tools (hand tools) as for tq wrenches. I won’t use a Pittsburgh tq wrench for anything further then head bolts on a low powered motor. But there is kobalt and tekton. As for sockets and a better grade ratchet. Highly recommend tekton. Super good people to work with and never had a issue with them. Amazing prices on complete socket sets wrench sets and so forth. And after doing testing. There wrenches are actually better then snap on wrenches. Don’t waste your money fkr my fellow technicians getting intk the pro level Also just tk add. Don’t have much Home Depot tools other then a few breaker bars and a 1/2 impact that I use at home and all them was gave to me over the years but I’m pretty sure they sell some tekton tools as well Also one last thing. Tekton super super low profile screw drivers. Definitely a great investment for only 10-15 bucks. Even if you think you will never need them. One day you will. Get them throw them in the box and forget em till ya need em

So, plasma cutters are GREAT to have, but certainly come at a high cost. I use an angle grinder and an air cutoff tool for all my metal work, as far as cutting goes. Unless you plan on using plate steel/sheet metal for artistic work, you can go without a plasma cutter. As a beginner welder, you’ll need plenty of practice with your new machine. Often you can find people getting rid of bed frames and other items made of solid steel, which provides great material to practice your new craft with. Best of luck to you with your new endeavor!

@consequence88363 жыл бұрын
This is true, the coupons are going away but it is a bit misleading. HF is pushing people to get the Insider track club instead so that you get offers via email and they now offer store wide sales that are pretty much a mimic to the old coupons. They recently had a 20% sale on any 1 item(1 per day lasted 4 days) but you only got it if you were a ITC member. Non members got a 10% coupon offer. Furthermore, ITC members now automatically get the best current deal on any item applied at the register without having to say a thing. If I had to guess, I would say they are moving into a sales model that is more internet friendly. So the coupons are going and being replaced with sales.

1.The pry bars, I don’t trust. Seen them fail and I won’t use them (I did work with heavy equipment and do buses now, though). 2.I had that rolling stool and took it back 3 times in 4 months. If you have a good floor, it will probably be fine. But being a cheap seat and having trash floor, mine just wouldn’t last. 3.Impact sockets are good, I just don’t like that they skip. I am a professional though, so this may or may not bother you. Definitely gonna depends person to person. Everything else you listed I think is good or heard is good. The breaker bars are a good value, I had a coworker that used one. Another thing to mention on the torque wrenches is they have a lifetime warranty. That’s a rare thing for torque wrenches, tool trucks don’t even do that (most are 3 years, I believe).
