MISTAKE: In example #1... I wrote G - C but played A - D. I played the wrong frets, but nonetheless, the relationship between the two chords stays exactly the same. I just should've played G - C like I've written. Brain fart!

One of my favorite cadences is bVI-I. In the key of D, B flat resolves to A, D stays the same, F resolves to F sharp, A flat resolves to A

Didn't know there were more options. Love the DeceptiveCadence... less cliches, more fun :-) That ActionCadence is great too and what you said, EPIC CADENCE is also a great name. . Is key change cadence possible because the sus4 drops the leading tone of the major scale? ie G B D, B is not played which is also 7th degree, which drops the tension to resolve to the root?

Thanks, this is great! I am going to look more into action cadence as I also come from a gaming background and noticed it does have an influence at times. Nice demo on smash bros haha! I will look further into these types for further recommendations for voicings.

Hmm, you could play that, but one wouldn't really hear that as a cadence. vi and I share a lot of notes, so going from vi to I doesn't have a very strong pull

Nice Vid! I think the name of action cadence, actually, is Backdoor cadence. Check it out. Thanks for your channel!!
@AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! From what I've seen, it seems like the Backdoor Cadence is ''iv - bVII - I'', as what I'm showing was ''bVI - bVII - i '', so I'm not sure it's exactly the same thing.

Isn’t the key change cadence just a utilisation of the interrupted cadence, and not a separate cadence?
@AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping5 жыл бұрын
The interrupted cadence is to go to a different chord than expected, but in the same given key. Most of the times it's going to be the IV or VI chord. The Key change cadence is to resolve differently than expected, but it also changes the tonal center of your new set of chords (it changes the key). I agree this wasn't clear enough in my video, because I said ''you can go anywhere'', but that's a vague term!
@tiotharius5 жыл бұрын
@@AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping I get that, but it does ask the question of 'What if you change the key so the VI chord is now the I chord?' since it would sound like the interrupted cadence, but after that first chord you realise it's actually the key change cadence. Like a hidden/disguised transition kind of thing. Edit: Just tried something with the example you gave for the interrupted cadence. It seems the 50's progression (vi-IV-V-I) fits really well on the end of it (playing Am - F - G - C - (Bdim) - Am). Was that what you were starting to play at the end of it?
@AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping5 жыл бұрын
Then I would call this a ''pivot chord'' because it's used in both tonalities. So technically, I would still call this a ''key change cadence'' because the pivot chord serves the purpose of liking two keys together to change keys. That being said, a ''key change cadence'' is not even a real term, so we might be debating on nothing concrete :-) call it however you want, it's how you use it that counts!
@nicolasgalipeau36322 жыл бұрын
@@AntoineMichaudGuitarLooping I think the problem is not the theory you give but what you play. I could be wrong, but it feels to me that both in the key cadence and the interrupted cadence, you don't end on the new chord, you start on the new chord. Both time you spend too much time on the V chord, making us hear a half cadence instead and then going to a new chord for the start. For the interrupted cadence to work, you need not spend that much time on the V, we need to think you're doing the same thing as V - I but instead switching that I for a VI or something else. Hope it helps!
