I just had my first public fight a few days ago...got tko'ed and two days later it's been nothing but headaches, Nausea, vomiting...basically feels like being badly hungover but not being able to sleep it off. Really opened my eyes to what these guys deal with after fights. I didn't even get knocked totally unconscious, and felt pretty good leaving the ring.

The most scary thing about brain damage is that, it doesnt necessarily need to show up right after the concussion but rather any time during your life afterwards, specially when getting older, which makes acknowledging it way harder. Definitely something i cant take off my mind when seeing two fighters throwing bombs at each other. A lot of fans just dont realize how much of a tough sport this one is and how much the fighters put on the line everytime they step in a cage/ring, watching them getting booed or disrespected by those filthy casuals pisses me the f off.

Couldn’t agree more. I’m 23, and I had a bad head injury from skateboarding at about 15. I split my head open, had a seizure and kept uncontrollably headbutting the ground while having the seizure. Had a serious concussion and I was dizzy, throwing up and barely remember much of the day or two after it either. However I was given the medical all clear after numerous scans. Regardless of what they said, over the next 2 years I started having twitches in my neck and upper spine that I couldn’t control, and now I’ve only been cleared to go for my license months ago. I still have twitches, and the doctors said I probably always will. Definitely not a good time. Going through that though gives me so much respect for these guys risking so much whenever they enter the ring. P.S Dustin wins tomorrow

@@mikel888666 Im sorry to hear that bud, the good news for you are that, it happened at a very young age so your body is more likely to recover from that, might take longer, you never know. Just dont give up looking for a solution and hopefully you'll start seeing some improvements. My heart is splitted in this one, i like both fighters, but i kinda want to see that gold arround Dustins waist too. That being said, I beleive this is a pretty good matchup for Oliveira, he had struggled against power hitters in the past but, other than that, i dont see many holes in his game, clean technical stricking and a nightmare on the ground. Is gonna be a hell of a card thats for sure, its a shame that we got Jorge and his three piece and a soda taken out of the menu tho...

I agree. This sport takes many things from you. If it werent for brain damage, i probably would've competed for sure. But you never know, one solid strike to the head could take years off your life. The fighters in UFC are just so tough that some of them can walk through many knockouts and still be fine.
@LegendInThaMakin
@LegendInThaMakin 3 жыл бұрын
I mean yeah but the ufc is growing and that’s a good thing because it’s a lot less dangerous than boxing. As a ufc fighter you spend less time in the ring, a lot of it is grappling and you can submit fighters instead of ko’ing them. Boxing is a brutal sport because you can only aim for the body or head and your only way out of the ring is you either get your head beat in for 12 rounds or you get knocked out. Those are your only two options. It’s brutal because when you get knocked down or hit badly you can’t just grapple and try and recover, nope, you might have a concussion but the ref stands you up, forces you in your feet and you have to fight through the concussion only to get knocked down over and over again till your body gives out or luckily, the ref stops it. Ufc is the evolution of combat sports where it’s honestly easier on the brain and you’re less likely to suffer serious brain damage in your later years. Not the best of news but hey, as a society, we are improving.

You’re right. I find it funny that most of the fans would probably cry or get knocked out if they got punched in the face, yet they form opinions on a subject that they can’t personally relate to. It’s not just MMA though. Same thing happens in football, basketball, and other sports when fans say, “Oh I could’ve done that it’s not that hard.” Then why didn’t they? Lol. Toxic fans need serious help.

I know all about the brain damage. my grandfather was a professional boxer and towards the end of his life he remembered my dad, one of my two aunts, my grandmother and my great uncle who's his brother. he had no idea about who the rest of us were. it was sad to see. the saddest part is that even though he remembered my dad, he couldn't remember his name. my dad is a junior. on the bright side, it was always a new experience for him and he was always very happy to find out he had grandchildren and that my dad had a motorcycle. What complicates the "they signed up for this" argument for things like fighter pay and brain health is the economic background of a lot of them. People love the "rags to riches" story, and it reflects the reality for many fighters. But if you grow up poor, you aren't particularly good at school, and there aren't a ton of decent paying jobs in your area, fighting can be one of your only options to build yourself a life, even moreso if you come from a rough neighborhood where you're getting dragged into fights anyway.
@viljamtheninja
@viljamtheninja 2 жыл бұрын
And while keeping that in mind, remember that we only see those who, to some extent, succeed. There are also hundreds, if not thousands, of kids with similar backgrounds who try to pull themselves up from the gutter through the fight game and end up with nothing but emptier pockets and accumulated brain damage.

You’ll have fighters that don’t exhibit negative symptoms of it but there’s no safe or good way to take repeated blows to the head. The best way I read it described is imagine your brain is floating in container of after water which is your skull, any quick impact to it will slam your brain to the sides of your skull, now imagine guys that eat 100 head shots in a fight, you can’t see it but their brain is battered inside.

A masterpiece of a video. Strangely, the best mma video I’ve seen. Been a huge fan for the sport for 20 years now. It takes time to see the flaws that you depicted so accurately. The one thing for me that stand above it all was the Toothless media. They being more of a PR machine rather than journalism was super tight man. Quite dystopian but so true. Fuckin Dana white man.

It's really scary. If any one of the journalists said something about it, they would be banned, simple as that, career and the show over. Similarly if the fighters wanted to unionize, the first one to say it would be so crucified by Dana, mark my word, that no one else would dare afterwards. It's just shitty.

#7 is what honestly keeps me being just someone who can appreciate a good MMA fight instead of being a full-fledged diehard fan. Yes, as Tommy stressed, there are undoubtedly plenty of good, honest people in the world of MMA. But it just sucks that _so many_ top fighters can’t seem to keep themselves out of trouble. Like it’s not just Jones and Conor. It’s them plus about 50 others in every division who make you feel gross for liking how they fight.

Here's the hardest truth about mma. Guys who have never fought or even know how to throw a proper punch are not only the biggest fans, but they also think, as bigger mma fans, they're tougher than you. A "hardcore" will get off with other "Hardcores" by calling someone a "casual" because he has a life. Had a huge kid's bday party all day Saturday and just didn't have the strength or care to pay $100 to watch Dustin punch out Conor again. They think they know more about fighting, regardless of your own training, because they... Pay more annually to get their scoops Wake up extra earlier and pay to watch a fight over sees just so they can be included. When we both know you really want to sleep and hate throwing money away. The truth is, mma is an adult male's way of reliving his childhood with admiration for their most beloved super hero. Mcgregor/Jones are now men's Superman/Spiderman. Remember we'd argue as children who could beat up who in the Marvel/DC world with ZERO regard for logic or intelligent rebuttals? Boom. Mcgregor/Jones fans. This is the sad truth about mma. Guys who actually could knock ppls' heads off effortlessly don't care that much, but the guys who will scream like Prince at the sight of a raised fist will UNDOUBTEDLY put you in your place if you can't name all 6,583,305 fighters on the UFC roster. Or if you didn't catch the fight live and paid for, you will be lambasted by all those tough "Hardcores". They will go full go Elton John Saturday Night's Alright on their QWERTY keywords to let you know...... you're just a CASUAL.

Dude, the Toxicity of the fan base is ridiculous. I get that there’s a lot of testosterone flowing, but some people are just obsessed with hate and it gets so old.

Sexualization in MMA is the number one way to spot a casual. It's repulsive when dudes at bars start making sexual jokes during female fights, awful for the sport.
