In the early 80s, I styled men at a department store. The shirt colors I put them in were mostly: white (crisp or soft depending on their coloring), light blue, pale pink, light green or very light gray. It was amazing what a difference this made on men who were wearing those late 70s pale gold colors, which rarely looked good on anyone. I would ask them to bring in their suits, if not new from the tailoring shop, and would choose ties that worked with the suit and new shirt colors, often in navy, dark green or gray, or burgundy/cool reds. I would also help them choose the best shoes and belts for their new looks. It was really fun and I got a lot of great feedback.

Thank you for this video! My go-to neutrals are camo tones, oranges, and camel/cognac. (I tend to refer to the warm muted tones as sassy neutrals)! My favorite pops of color are reds and royal blue

I’ve been with your channel for some time and you have definitely influenced how I dress. However this video was incredible……I had my CMB colours done many years ago and ended up always choosing the colours featured in this video! I had no idea I was just picking “universal” colours 😂.Now I am retired I wear a lot of soft whites, blues and navy, it’s cheaper and I don’t need the power clothes.

Watching your videos has helped me improve my wardrobe and relationship to shopping so much over the 4+ years I've been a viewer. I'm in a fairly good place with it but I think I would like to add a little bit of colour for spring, maybe blush pink, red or emerald green. Thank you ;-)

I've experimented with color a lot this past year (Audrey Coyne makes amazing content on the subject!), and ultimately, I find that my go-to color choices are either black, taupe, grey and a little bit of beige. My skin has a fairly warm undertone, but I do tend to tan naturally in some places during the summer months, so I find that most other colors that are more bright or bold in saturation just tend to not look natural on me- the only exception here would be any of the sunshine colors (red, orange or yellow) if chosen wisely. Thank you for sharing your perspective on this idea and how it correlates to fashion, Signe! :)

Recently I bought an analogue wrist watch online. It has a deep emerald green leather band. The case and linings were gold and it's base is warm broken white. I'm usually never good with colors, but the color combo on that watch blends so coherently with my skin tone and now I know for sure that deep emerald green would be my power color. Thank you for expanding our color horizon with this video!

Hello! Always enjoy your videos, they are thoughtfully made. In India we were lots of bright colours , but I'm someone who is in the middle, on most weekdays I wear muted colours, it makes me feel calm, then when I feel like wearing a bright look, I pull out some playful prints. Please consider making more videos on colours.

This video really surprised me! I was fully expecting neutral only 😁 I love it! I am in a no mans land between soft/contrasting warm/cool. Eg the only jewellery that suits me is brass & wood. I have been trying to categorise myself for years colour wise, maybe it’s time to accept that I’m just neutral 🤷🏻‍♀️ it’s just more exciting to find the perfect box that ticks everything. Could you please please make a video about the olive undertone! So hard to find info on pale olive skin and what colours to wear etc. 💕💕

Signe, Loved this video ... was just trying to go thru my wardrobe and determine if the colors I have are suitable. I found they fell into 3 categories. 1)Those that make a yellow cast to my skin and blend in too much with my hair/skin color (Fair Blonde with pink cast in skin 2) those that look rather neutral and don't look either pink or yellow and seem to be OK 3) those that pull neutralize the pink in my skin and make my complexion more even and clear. The warmer colors seem to "blend" in with my own coloring to make a dullness to my complexion. I do not feel good in most oranges, yellow, greens or reds (I will try the ones you suggested). Do you think I am in the neutral or cool category? Also, I always heard that everyone looks good in Turquoise ... thoughts?
@UseLess_dk
@UseLess_dk 2 жыл бұрын
There are actually 12 universal colours and turquoise is said to be one too, so yes you’re correct about that! ❤️🙏🏻 it’s hard to say if you’re more cool or warm, I’d have to see you to tell as your colours would depend on 1)your dominant colouring (hair, skin and eye colour) and 2) your undertone which would add more either warm or cool colours to your palette. But yellows and oranges are tricky indeed, and they really look best on people with warmer colouring - they can make you look ashy and grey if they are not right for you. 🥰

Great Video! Thank you! 🙌🏼 Yes. I have several blush pink items for spring. It’s almost a soft pink (in the 80’s we called it powder pink 😂) with a slight hint of peach mixed in. I love it paired with chambray or light denim in the spring. I agree the swatch shown here would be considered coral where I live (California). Also because I’m a bit more olive toned I cannot wear traditional green or yellow as it makes me look unwell, but I can wear olive or a soft sage green and I use those colors in my fall wardrobe sometimes paired with camo.
@UseLess_dk
@UseLess_dk 2 жыл бұрын
I would personally say that coral is more warm than the blush pink I show here, but colour names vary across industries I guess ☺️ a lighter version of pink would be perfect for a dominantly light colour type, but it also wouldn’t be as universal as this one as it could wash out people with for example a deeper colouring. ☺️
@KN-bs9wb
@KN-bs9wb 2 жыл бұрын
You used a beautiful sheer long sleeve button up once in your spring capsule as well as your little pink suede flats that were in many of your spring capsules that i would call blush pink. Most of the items I buy that say blush pink are that shade. But yes it seems different industries as well as each new season the industry/Pantone etc. rename the same colors. I always love & look forward to your videos Signe and have for the past 4 years 🙏🏻💫❤️

I’m a Summer, but closer to neutral than many other Summers, I have some gold in my hazel eyes. I prefer yellow gold, so that’s what I year, even though it’s not my recommended metal color. I also love pearls, they look great on Summers. My favorite jewelry items have both pearls and yellow gold in them, a classic pearl strand can look dated on someone my age, 61.

I would say coral is warmer than this one which is indeed why it wouldn’t necessarily be right for everyone - it’s hard to show the colour 100% on screen, it is not as warm as coral in real life as it might show on your screen ☺️

Even though she said are universal colours that work for everyone, I feel that most of these colours are more cool undertone oriented. As taupe, stone, esmerald green, (that) purple (showed in the video), true red. And very careful with the pink and teal depends a lot of the exact colour. As a medium neutral-warm skin they look awful in me.
@Jessica_Jones
@Jessica_Jones 2 жыл бұрын
It's funny because the colors she listed mostly made sense to me, but many of the swatches shown were not what I typically associate with said colors. The blush pink especially was more saturated than I've typically seen. Perhaps the softer varieties can be pulled off by both warm and cool undertones?

I think I’m neutral and clear though I’m still confused! I just know that mustard and beige and anything too muted like powdery pinks don’t look good on me as they either make me look sick or blend into my skin tone. I feel the most comfortable wearing black, white, navy and as for jewellery I like pearls

I agree, great video. Many years ago I had two color analysis done. Both times I was deemed a winter. Recently, it was fine tuned to a deep or dark winter. All of this is great but finding clothes for a winter palette is near to impossible. Luckily I love black, gray, navy and white, but I wanted to add some colors, but finding winter colors in a primarily earth toned clothing market is very difficult. I’ve ordered some new swatches as I lost my old ones and hope this helps.

I am a soft color type too but I can't stand those 'sweet' pastel colors. They might look better on my skin but they feel so childish. I think of them as colors for babies or ice cream shops. There is no edge. What do you do when your taste conflicts with your color types?
@UseLess_dk
@UseLess_dk 2 жыл бұрын
If you’re soft I wouldn’t necessarily say you’d have to go for soft pastel, they would be better for a dominantly light colour type (natural light blonde for example). As a soft you want to think about the clarity; the colour should simply be more muted. An example could be a bright green vs. sage green (the latter would be better for you) or a deep brown vs a rose brown (the latter again being better for you). Hope that makes sense! Also, to answer your question; wear the colours you love first and foremost, that’s what matters the most! Knowing your colour type is simply a styling tool to help you narrow down your options and of course, to help you curate a beautiful colour palette ☺️🙏🏻 Signe xx

Same, I have found that even though I've been complimented in a couple of purple shirts in the past, I don't generally like wearing the color -- the colors were perhaps wearing ME 😉 I find now that I am very particular about purple and can really only wear more burgundy/wine. Except for one subdued top I have, red has also fallen out of my wardrobe entirely, though I'll wear a blue-toned red lip from time to time, or throw a red bandana in my hair or a pocket :)

Hi Barb. The metal would clash with your skin or feel overpowering on you whereas it would blend more in and work in harmony when you’ve got it right ☺️ there are other ways to determine your skin undertone though, I found this article for instance: www.byrdie.com/figure-out-undertones Hope that helps! Sorry but I think the whole colour theory is just a construct to make money without any basis in reality. I like your work Signe but the 10 universal colour theory also seems to be total nonsense to me. I'd say the only universal colour is probably blue, various shades, including denim. Blondes do not look great wearing camel, beige, sand, stone and other colours that wash them out.
