My hair was healthy growing up. Shampoo, instant conditioner, towel dry, braid to air dry over night. Grease scalp next day, when hair dried, hot combed (pressed) my natural hair. Deep conditioned, once a month. I too am going back to basics!

Funny how I watched this video after believing that I needed to go back to the basics. My mother took great care of my hair and I remember her scooping a dump truck amount of grease on my hair! I used to complain because even after brushing I still could see the color of the grease. Well here I am back and after mixing all the different grease brands she used and oils new to the mix. I can feel new growth from the scalp!!!! You know the wave yup I’m here to STAY!!!! Thanks for reminding me of the Dax black grease that smells like bacon also my mother used the Sulfur 8 liquid just before washing. I need to find that too.

I call this going "black to basics" doing what our grandparents & parents done when caring for our hair. We had healthy hair back then. I use all old school products. I condition my hair weekly, I deep condition maybe once every other month. I don't cowash. I love hair grease & water. I use gel & I am a wash'n'go addict. Very rarely plait or flat twist to reduce manipulation. My hair has grown & I'm happy with it. Love your videos, honest reviews & love your choice of products. Also the fad chasing is nonsense & you're absolutely right about it. Thank you for your content.

I went back to grease and some other things my mom used when my hair was down my back as a kid and GIRL. My boyfriend's sister gave me a 😒😒 look when I was explaining that I use products that have worked for me basically my whole life. I did try using some recommended products after I initially went natural because I didn't know, but at this point I use Creme of Nature, water and grease lmao because that's what works for my head! If it ain't broke don't fix it! I don't care what anyone thinks at this point because 1. It's my hair, and 2. I don't have $10 to spend on 2.5 oz of some product that may not work for me (I'm looking at you, Shea Moisture) lol I really loved this video 😄😄

This is my exact regimen except in wash day I use raw Shea butter instead of grease. I sit under the dryer for about 5-10 minutes with the Shea butter in it & braided up, it leaves my hair extra moisturized and juicy. I have low porosity hair, fine strands and med/high density. 4a/3c we’re typing.

Good opinions here! You have to do what works for your hair. I myself rely on leave ins for the moisture. By me having low porosity hair I only use grease sometimes as a sealant when I'm not using oils. I use a small amount then so it won't weigh my hair down. I use a turban towel to dry my hair. Don't like the t-shirt method either. I don't deep condition until I feel like my hair needs it. I just leave my rinse out conditioner on for about 10 minutes. I only do protein treatments every 2 to 3 months. I learned the hard way doing to many protein treatments and using products with protein not checking the ingredient list and experience protein overload. Never again! 😊☺😊

Everything sounds about right but have you ever sat under a hooded dryer or electric heated conditioning cap with your conditioner in your hair for minutes. Because it softens and moisturizes the hair so nicely. I love it. The caps have long cords so if you still want to cook and clean while your hair is conditioning.

If you cowash u have to clarify with shampoo occasionally because conditioner won’t strip all the products off your hair or clean it. You will get buildup and this will cause your hair to feel dry because it’s blocking moisture from getting in. U need to shampoo at least once out of every 3 washes

For me, in this past 5 months, I overhauled 99.99% of the advice I heard on KZbin/forums/blogs since 2011 and INDIVIDUALISED my scalp and hair care. Turns out my scalp and hair hated them. The products, techniques, hairstyles, even the bonnet... The BONNET 😶 and they were retaliating for the past 10 years (seborrheic dermatitis being one of them), I finally paid attention and my scalp and hair were saying to me "These are the trash we're leaving behind in 2021 😤" Praise God! * Feels like I'm testifying at church!*😄

Tbh, I don't see much in the way of unpopular opinions. One YT commenter said that a BW's hair was like a fingerprint; unique to her. I personally have VERY short, thin hair, low density and am 3c - 4b, just within that small amount of hair, different porosity levels as well, seriously....... I'm not into grease though. It never did much for my hair growing up and I can't bear the texture or the fact that it gives me pimples. I wish I did though; it'd be so much cheaper. I tend to use natural pomades instead. Found a combo that keeps the moisture in for at least a week. I really like it, but it ain't cheap! Always go with what works for you. I half heartedly tried the "no oils/butters', but it didn't work for me. Simplicity is the best, but diet and self care also has a huge effect on the health of hair as well.

Co-washing only cleanses if you don’t put anything that builds up. That’s why grease is on the “no list.” So sadly no poo method is challenging because there are all these thousands of things you can’t use. When I lost my curl pattern I was strict curly girl and I appreciated it. But as my hair repaired I have found that I’m not as strict with it. The best thing about the curly girl method was keeping it simple. But now all these companies jumped on the bandwagon and ppl are making it super annoying tbh. Plz it’s been hijacked by ppl who don’t even have curly hair, so products that used to work no longer work because the straights and slightly wavies complained and companies responded by changing formulas.

Great video. Are you able to provide a link to how you grease your hair and scalp and inbetween washes?

Hi do u use a hot comb or flat iron when straightening your hair with the grease....that's ole school how my mom use to do my hair👍👏👏my mom used to use Apex grease to press my hair...never had any problem with my hair growing.... basically it grew.

Hi Sonja. I use a flat iron as my hot comb is the old school one (heat it up on the stove), but I want to invest in the electric hot comb and see how that goes. But yes, you're right.. for me hair grease is the best product to get my hair straight.

You’ve missed out on Hair Mayonnaise. Please, please try it, you will never be without it. It softens the hair and detangles it it in seconds. It’s really is too good to be true except it truly works. I beg you, it will transform your life! Protein agrees with my hair 4C hair too. There use to be a white tube with the name Protein and the cream was white. Does that ring a bell with anyone as can’t seem to lay my hands on it anywhere. This was about 20 years ago. Maybe it’s changed, but if anyone knows what I’m on about could they let me know or recommend one proven to work like no other as the Hair Mayonnaise does if you’ve never tried it will blow your mind in how it softens and detangles.

I tried the hair mayo a few years back, I don’t think I did a review on it though. I may try it again. Thank you for the recommendation x
