Im doing docotrate in education (Ed.D) and needed an Ipad, in addition to my Macbook, to read academic papers and to edit dissertation pages. I also bought an apple pencil, which is super useful. Your the fifth docotral student I've come across in these youtube streets with the info I need to load up my ipad. Thanks and good luck to you. Get it done.

I’m a math student and I got an iPad during my senior year of undergrad and it helped so much! I’ve been using it for like 3 years now and recommend a tablet of some form to everyone. Personally, I prefer notability but I know lots of people who swear by goodnotes. You Can’t go wrong either way.
@PhDandProductivity2 жыл бұрын
Yea I haven't tried notability myself but I suppose once there's one that works for you that's the main thing. I wish I had this during my maths undergrad 😢

What iPad do you have?
@lauraodylis Жыл бұрын
@@Stargazer9900 I have the 2017 I pad pro. It’s now starting to age battery wise and might be time for an upgrade but I still use it almost everyday for classes.

I loved this video!! I was following you on instagram but not in KZbin, and I found that this video is so life saving for me! I have an ipad for my PhD too (I’m in my 3rd year) and I would love to use it more. In fact I was mostly using it for reading papers and taking notes on random days when I feel inspired, let’s see I can turn it into a habit, because my brain definitely works better when I write. Another thing I found super useful about Goodnotes is that when I need to add a quick drawing or scheme in a Powerpoint, let’s say something informal to explain something to my advisor for instance, I can draw pretty fancy things in Goodnotes and directly select them and paste them in PowerPoint (because I have a Mac), but you can also save it as a screenshot if you dont have a connected mac. This might be helpful for anyone! Anyway, keep up the great work! I really like your videos and your instagram stories and posts, thanks a lot ❤️

Aha I have converted you from IG 😉 Yes. I love that feature of the iPad as well it's so handy to have stuff synched up on the same devices with air drop and that!

I love the hashtag suggestion. I didn't know it was possible to use that search button. I got the iPad pro last year for the same reason you did and so far so good!
@PhDandProductivity2 жыл бұрын
Yea it's a life saver to be able to search through your notes for something you've left in a random notebooK!

Thank you for the nice review, where do you usually save files? I struggle with which app to use, sometimes when I export files I can’t reach eg dropbox

But don't you think paperlike damages the pen nib more quickly?
@PhDandProductivity Жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed that personally, i've never had to change the nib of my apple pen and I've had it a few years. I don't use it every day of course but definitely haven't noticed damage.

@@PhDandProductivity ok thanks. And how about the condition of the paperlike? Do some scratches appear on it due to long time use?
@PhDandProductivity Жыл бұрын
@@rafisics yes scratches will appear over time. The paperlike comes with 2 screen protectors in the pack and they recommend changing them every 6 months or so but I would do so less frequently as again I don't use my ipad daily

Thank you Now I realized why few of my Chinese classmates and friends are using iPad here in China. In my personal case, most of the time I do research in Lab through my desktop double screen of course, and work a bit in my laptop at home. So I didn't feel need for using and iPad. Anyway I would like to trywhen I get chance.

Thanks for this! Contemplating to purchase an Ipad to read and annotate. I started my PhD in the time when (almost ;)) everything was on paper (I started in 2011), but I would love to change to paperless now as an academic. Just wondering whether the 10.2 inch is big enough for reading and note-taking at the same time, which is why I'm looking into the 11 inch Ipad pro (2018 version so it't not that expensive). Any thoughts? Do you have to adjust the pdf file a lot on the screen when note-taking?
