Calling all shopping addicts: Get cosy for some real talk...and a bit of tough love.
While it's nice to take advantage of sales for items you've long-wanted, it's very easy to get sucked into the hype surrounding heavily discounted items you'd never before considered, which often results in overspending and having regret later.
As I'm in the process of recovering from my own shopping addiction, I hope these 10 tips will help muffle that voice inside your head that's screaming FOMO right into your ears and help you stop spending money on things you ultimately don't need.
I hope this sale survival guide helps you, especially during this Black Friday season!

I can absolutely relate to the wanting being the main thing. Sometimes I don’t even want to try the makeup when I receive it and that’s just crazy😅

I think that's much more common than we realise too! When I went through a huge wardrobe cull, I had so many items that were unworn and still had the freaking tags on them! It was just so silly. The dopamine rush from wanting something is very much a thing. Thank you for sharing! 💕

This is all such incredible advice. Make a wishlist and wait is actionable advice, sure, but it doesn’t work when you have trouble enforcing rules on yourself!! I just finished up my no buy right before Black Friday and one of the reasons I did that is so I didn’t have FOMO from sales throughout the year. I decided to let myself just have the month off and see what happens… it’s amazing how I’m able to use my new shopping muscles and recognize when I’m falling into a bad pattern. I absolutely agree that there needs to be room for impulse purchases in life. It’s fun to get a good deal and have that dopamine hit once and a while, and sometimes you discover something you really love. I also so appreciate your description of your ideal self as someone who doesn’t need to shop all the time.

First of all: congratulations on completing your no buy! That is a significant accomplishment. I can just imagine the muscles you have developed in restraint and awareness. I've found that most of the battle is being aware of what's happening and having the strength to just stop when you know it's addictive behaviour rather than indulging a new purchase of something that will bring long-term enjoyment. It's a slippery slope! I really admire how you've handled your no buy and the progress you've made along the way. Thank you for being here. 💕

The pink dress might be one of the most fabulous things I've ever seen.... hot pink, lace, cutouts, slipdress..... magnificent! I have to say, something about these crazy sales have had an off-putting affect on me. It makes me wonder how much they're marking up the item to begin with. The perceived value goes down and I often lose interest. And to answer your question, no it's not appealing to own so many things anymore. I can be a bit of a magpie at times but that desire is less as I get older. I'm saving this video and I know I will refer to it often in the future! You already helped me resist a lot during these sales weeks. Such a comprehensive and entertaining list! Loved the ending and the vulnerability, you have such a beautiful heart! 💕🤗💕

Isn’t it fabulous? Even if it gives nightgown vibes I don’t even care, the colour and cut and material were irresistible to me! Of course, it looks absolutely nothing like how it does on the model when I wear it, but it’s a stunning dress. And I completely understand what you mean about the influx of sales being off-putting. I feel quite similarly. So many items must have SUCH a high profit margin! Just nuts. So glad you enjoyed this video! Thank you for always being here. 💕

Ugh I relate to everything you’re saying on the makeup aspects. Although I have the added layer of…. But I have to create content and for that I am investing into makeup for reviews. Being scared to stop reviewing coz that’s how people found my channel. I don’t know what 2024 has in store for me but I like the reality check you give me❤

Yeah, with makeup reviews I can definitely see how it’s tricky! Such a fine line as it can be hard to tell what’s an investment in your channel vs. what’s an impulsive purchase. Your channel is amazing!

Thank you Brittany, I can't tell you how helpful this was. Not only for Black Friday but just shopping in general. The point you made about the addiction of waiting to receive items really resonated with me. Once I have them I tend to forget about them and move onto the next thing. This has stopped me from buying any further Black Fridays offers! ❤

Oh no!! I just realized that my super long comment from a week ago was never posted or disappeared😣, but basically, I was saying how helpful and relatable this video was and how I was going to follow your tips during this time of sale madness! I only took advantage of 2 sales which fell in the category of "wanting this item for months" so for a shopaholic, I think that's good, but of course, the temptation to get more things is still there, like you it's always the fantasy and whole vision I build in my head, the excitement of clicking the button and receiving the package that gets to me, because once I get the thing it's like it all vanishes in a few hours and it's on to the next thing and then I get overwhelmed by having too many things and I feel a desperate need of decluttering, which is such an annoying contradiction, I want things, but I don't want things! As always, thank you for sharing, your videos always make my day! Hope you're well!💕

Only 2 sales is AMAZING for shopaholics like ourselves. Well done! What did you get? Ugh yes, SUCH excitement. I really want to work on changing my mentality towards shopping next year as it just takes up so much of my energy! I hope you are having a wonderful week, and chat to you soon! 💕

@@bornblushing Now that I remember, I took advantage of 3 sales😅. I couldn't resist the Doen one and I got a silk dress I've been eyeing for months, plus a top, pants, and silk scarf, from Agent Nateur I got the acid wash cleanser because I've been wanting to try it and I'm not sure if my skin will like it, plus in the US I can buy the travel size which is much more convenient when you're testing something out, and then I discovered the most beautiful perfume brand ever called Ormaie Paris and I got a perfume, which in my mind was kind of meant to be because I got a sample of it in an order I placed at a store here and I fell in love with the scent immediately and then I saw a store in NY had that perfume at pretty much 50%off so, of course, I had to take advantage 😅! I'm lucky that my mom's friend is in the US and I could do this because here in Mexico the sales suck and many international brands don't even ship here or do but take forever to arrive and charge a lot of extra fees, Doen fortunately is an exception. I also just finished my sunscreen and I got (unfortunately not on sale) one from a brand called Pavise, have you heard of it?, it seems like a pretty impressive product, hopefully, it lives up to my high expectations! Hope you're doing well and that you have a good week!🥰💕
@bornblushing
@bornblushing 7 ай бұрын
@@nataliar163 Silk is SO irresistible, so I totally don't blame you for taking advantage of the Doen sale! I looked up Ormaie Paris, and their scents look divine! I have to know - which one did you choose? You're so lucky to have a connection in the US! There are quite a few brands I'd like to buy from, but they don't ship to Canada. So lame! And I definitely hear you on the extra fees! Duty and customs fees here are insane. I have not heard of the brand Pavise! I just looked it up, and it appears to not be sold in Canada. That sunscreen looks so good, though! Please let me know what you think of it! I am still using my trusted one by iS Clinical. It's not perfect, but I do enjoy using it. I hope you are keeping well, Natalia! It's always such a treat to hear from you! 🥰💕

@@bornblushing It does suck to not be able to get many things where we live or to have to pay all those extra fees! I am lucky to have my mom's friend in the US (actually 2!😅), the only bad thing, especially with skincare, is having to wait a while before being able to repurchase something so I'm trying to reintroduce into my routine brands that I can easily buy here (maybe Tata Harper) and just treating myself once in a while with some extra things from there when it's possible. I have started using the Pavise sunscreen but it is still too early to tell if it's good or not, it does give a nice radiant look to the skin and feels quite hydrating which is nice. I have never tried iS Clinical but I know many people love that brand and I feel that sunscreen is such a difficult product that if you find one that works it's best to stick with that one. I actually really liked the one from Biossance but it's no longer available so that's why I've been madly searching for a replacement, before the Pavise I tried the new one from Agent Nateur which was nice but I hated that it was tinted & I also don't love that it's scented, I've also tried one from Lesse which was nice but of course, I was tempted to try the Pavise one, so we'll see. Oh, I'm glad you looked up Ormaie! aren't those perfume bottles stunning? And yes every scent sounds amazing. I got Papier Carbone, which to me is just such a comforting scent, it smells sweet but spicy, truly like licorice, so perfect for this time of the year, and now I really want to try Toi Toi Toi & L'ivrée Bleue. Hope you're well and that you have a lovely weekend and happy holidays!!💕

@@nataliar163 I have wondered about Tara Harper’s line, purely because the bottles look so pretty. Sunscreen is such an iffy product, I agree! When we find one that works for us, it’s best to stick to it. I am going to look into that scent by Ormaie! Unfortunately there’s nowhere for me to smell them where I live, so I’d have to do a blind buy! Eeeek! But the bottles look oh so beautiful and I know you have great taste! I read all of the scents’ descriptions and it’s so hard to narrow down which one I would like the best! 💕

I'm so happy this helped you, Chloe! I totally understand the feeling of needing to hear someone else say these things even when you already know them. For quite a long time, I felt rather isolated by my shopping addiction, and there's something relieving in knowing we are not alone and that we all have the same goal of getting out of it. And I agree, it's us against those companies, baby!
