It’s so weird my relationship with buying makeup feels so different now. There were 2 months this year where I didn’t buy any makeup, and yet that’s my channel! I also think I now just view makeup companies as the villain and that makes me not buy as much lmao

The fact that you have a successful makeup channel WITHOUT buying makeup constantly truly speaks volumes and is so inspiring! 💕 Makeup companies do have demonic tricks that suck us in, but thankfully we are wising up to their moves, no matter how heartbreakingly pretty a lot of their products are. 😉

Your description of your thoughts about the DHL truck we’re so on point! Today I was walking the dog and saw an Amazon van roaming around the neighborhood. I had a similar experience to what you described, and I hadn’t even ordered anything! Then I was sad that I hadn’t ordered anything because if I had that truck would be stopping at my door! So crazy! What I’ve just started doing for my hack is giving myself permission to buy things I need at full price. I will buy what I need, and only what I need, when I need it whether it is on sale or not. I don’t have to wait for a sale. I found that what happens is that I always overspend during a sale and I get way more things than I planned, and I buy things I never would have bought at all just because it’s a “good deal. “

That rush we feel when seeing the delivery trucks is really something, isn't it? We can get FOMO even from seeing delivery drivers! Your full-price rule is great. I have a friend who is following a very similar system, and it's also worked out really well for her! It's SO easy to go overboard during sales. Well done!

I’m hugely guilty of this. And now the Shop app tracks all my packages in one place, fueling the addiction. Yesterday I accidentally hacked myself into a double dose of the delivery dopamine. My Victoria Beckham package arrived (the new cinnamon liner! and I finally decided to go for the bronzing brick, too!). And then I opened it, and the bronzer powder was already crumbling into oblivion, with the seam between the two shades fully split. I was heartbroken, but I emailed customer service, and they immediately shipped off a replacement. So now I’m back to the beginning. “USPS awaiting package.” Oooohhh, let’s frickin go, y’all! And in the meantime, I’m playing with the gorgeous VBB torty compact. I turned it into an 8-pan shadow palette (a bit tricky because of the magnets’ placement, but I made it work). And I cleaned out the big bronzer pan and am fantasizing about what else that compact may one day hold. Do I become one of those girls who makes her own lip balm? Do I make an unnecessarily large solid perfume, a la those Elizabeth and James Nirvana compacts? (Ugh, remember those? So drool-worthy.) Is the compact now a ketamine holder (jkjkjk)?

Oh, I can totally feel this emotional journey just by reading your comment! The initial excitement, the complete disappointment, quickly followed by another rush of delivery dopamine. I've been there MANY times! I really like how creative you were at utilizing the compact and managing to fit eight eyeshadows in there! And the Shop App is wild for driving the addiction. I'll get notifications like, "Your order from Sephora was delivered. WHAT'S NEXT?" Those Elizabeth and James Nirvana compacts were SO beautiful! I like your thinking. Haha, yeah, is there an equivalent of nicotine patches for shopping addicts? If so, I'd need to fill my compact with those. 😂

Oh, I so can! I just bought two more rings. But, in a sense, it was a need. I have rings that I can size them, but it compromises them. I can't wear them in summer because my hands are so swollen. I also just bought a Chanel liner in Eros because I needed a sparkly red and Sisley stick shadow in Black Rose. Now, I do have reds and blacks, but not like these. I also didn't buy in excess. Just those two things. The same way I bought the two rings. Now, my hack is to take stock of what I already have. I NEED nothing else at the moment. Maybe just some shirts, but they don't have the style I want, so that will wait a bit. My other hack is I don't buy in excess like aforementioned. That way, I can have nice things, but my nice things don't have me. I believe that luxury makeup, hair and skin care are an investment in myself. But, I buy these things wisely and the products have to work or I feel like I'm just paying for brand names.

Your sound and editing are ON POINT in this video! This whole thing is so relatable. The last one in stock. On sale. On its way. ALL THE EXCITEMENT! And then the rage when the package is "stuck". I am still trying to decipher the mystery of all those emotions. For some reason New Jersey is my Bermuda Triangle. I think your first hack is pretty genius and seems a very common sense response, especially in the context of addiction behavior. You're replacing a less useful purchase with a necessary one, redirecting your actions. Your reaction to that eyeshadow - I SO DO THAT! And expanding the shopping of the stash to everything we have is also such a great idea. I've watched a lot of low buy and no buy content, and a lot of people reformulate the same points over and over in different ways. And that's useful, because each new way of saying it triggers different thoughts. But it's refreshing to hear a different take with some different tips. I am looking forward to seeing those "turtle-traveling" knobs for your bathroom. 😂

@@bornblushing your hacks were great, as is your perspective. The fact that you inject humor into the topic makes it easier to deal with in myself. I think it's easy to feel ashamed of shopping and shopping addiction. That shame can lead to denial, which prevents people from actually taking an honest look at their behaviors. But when you inject humor into the whole thing, it lets us laugh at ourselves in a healthy way. And that lightheartedness can help give us the courage to look at what we're doing, and maybe even change things we don't like. You did a great job with this one!

the music selects are always so on point with these videos 😂. i no longer keep a wishlist either bc i kept revisiting it and never had the fortunate opportunity to just forget about said wishes! i save a bunch to an IG wishlist set that i just never look at again haha. with packages being delivered i am mostly on edge making sure that a neighbor (or myself) is around to claim it. sometimes UPS packages are marked as delivered to my front door and nowhere to be found. yesterday i got a practical item that didn't quite replace the wants but btw that and the gifted pants i'm doing well :). the tray for your bathroom looks adorable! can't wait to see the makeover once it's ready :D

I am glad you enjoy the music. I have fun picking out which songs to use. 😉 Yes! The wishlist is just another form of torture for me, and I don't need the visual reminders of the items that excited me as I will usually forget about them. I TOTALLY understand the anxiety of having your package misdelivered or stolen. I also get nervous about missing the buzzer ring and having my package taken to a facility many kilometres away from my home. I've had to drive close to the airport a few times! You have been doing so well lately! We can continue to keep each other in check. 💕 I'm excited for my knobs to eventually make it here so I can post a bathroom update!

I only made it to 3:23 and CANNOT stop thinking about my Suqqu winter 23 package that is on HOLD at customs. It is 1 of 2 packages. I was suppose to receive both today, with the complete collection I bled for... instead my toxic lover (aka the yellow gold truck) only left one box. WHYYYYYY. I say... whyyyy!!!! On another note, I see you and I share yet another common thing besides an unhealthy relationship with online shopping (or shopping in general) and beauty items... yes, and that is.... I rotate from makeup, skincare, haircare, perfume, clothes etc. I scour the internet to find the best deal. I wait, patiently. But when the ultimate deal or gift with purchase announcement arrives, it’s very hard to control myself. I obsess over certain brands and will get many things from the one, then get bored and move to something else. The delivery process is very exciting/frustrating I agree. Sadly sometimes when I finally HAVE the item I’ve been obsessed with I’m no longer as excited about. I like “wanting” and “acquiring”. Almost like a hunter catching its prey 🤷‍♀️😂 I swear my shopping patterns aren’t normal lol

Sisley's website is incredible for that...and it's such a beautiful, luxurious trap! Oh yeah, DHL also sends out an email showing where the delivery truck is as well when it's just a few stops away, which always has me INSANELY giddy. It's nuts! TP was a terrible example, I know. 😂 What I meant was just going through the motions of a purchase for a need vs. a want, so we can re-train our brains slowly but surely...hopefully! New subscriber here! Love this video. On the yeux paints, the formula is terrible, at least for the navy shade. Texture is like congealed grease and it’s incredibly difficult to blend. If you’re using it as a liner and manage to get it perfect, once it’s set it will last all night. But the formula def does not lend itself to the breezy French girl lifestyle the brand hooks you on. Also the packaging is cheap.

Hi Rebecca! So happy to have you here. I totally hear you on the Yeux Paints. I bought several of them last year, including the navy shade, and I only really have used that one as a liner. I love how long-wearing they are, but I agree that they can be finicky to work with and the packaging leaves MUCH to be desired! I'm really glad I didn't cave on this new blue shade because I doubt I'd wear it all that often after the initial excitement of it faded. Violette's marketing is some sort of witchery and always has me wanting her releases, so I've since muted her account on Instagram. 😂

Omg loved this!!! I can definitely relate!!! For me it's not so much about the logistical processes that I'm after, its the build up to finally deciding to purchase the item. For example with makeup, I enjoy debating in my head as to whether to get the new holiday eyeshadow palette, and I'll watch like every possible video out there on it. So it's really the process of convincing myself to get it, that I love. Once I actually get the item in my hands, the excitement is over. How dumb is that!!! I think as long as we recognize what it is that we are addicted to, like what you're doing by making this video, that is really half the battle. I think your second hack may help me and I've even shopping my stash lately! Especially with perfume! I havent bought a perfume in at least 3 months now? But I've just replaced it with makeup 🫠 so I'm not sure I'm really making any progress! In any case, I appreciate you bringing attention to this issue! I have a question for you... do you have any Suqqu eyeshadow quads? if so, do you like them? if not, are you open to try one? I’m glad that yellow truck FINALLY completed the deed! I can just imagine the thrill you must have felt. You know, I don’t have any Suqqu quads as I feel like as soon as I dip my toes in, I’m going to dive in head first and never come up for air. It’s a black hole waiting to happen. Everything they release always looks SO beautiful. And I totally understand the urge you feel to buy backups. Love this video, you always make me feel like I'm not alone!! I'm the same way with my deliveries the anguish and anger I feel when I see my package isn't moving or is detained at customs (customs in my country is the absolute worst!), ugh I swear I can barely sleep, but when I see that it's out for delivery it makes me feel so excited, but unfortunately as soon as the excitement of receiving the package, opening it and looking at it fades I'm already thinking about my next purchase 😓 so I will definitely try out your hacks! I'm also obsessing over the new Violette_FR Yeux Paint, that color is just absolutely breathtaking, I've always been obsessed with the color blue and this particular shade of that Yves Klein blue is just insane, like you I just look at the imagery, and feel like I'm just going to look like her when I wear the eyeshadow, but I'm trying to remember that I already have about 7 Yeux Paints and I only use 1 every once in a while and of course it's Petite Culotte the most boring easy to use one! 😂 I'm also trying to picture myself trying to use it and probably making a huge mess which I absolutely hate haha, but I know I'll probably end up getting it at some point, hopefully, I'll be able to resist and get it until next year (ugh but even as I'm writing this I'm kind of obsessing over it again). In the meantime, I'll try to satisfy my craving with other blue things that I have, clothing wise I always tend to choose lighter greyish shades of blue, but I have 3 VBB blue liners and 2 are quite bright, sure they're not in that specific shade but at the end of the day they can provide the satisfaction of having a blue pop of color when I feel like my outfit is too neutral. As always, it's such a treat to watch your videos I feel like I'm watching an episode of my favorite show, even the music you choose goes so perfectly with your videos. Natalia your comment made me laugh so much because I am EXACTLY THE SAME with the Yeux Paints (and the emotions over receiving packages - I swear I lose sleep over it too!). I bought pretty much every single Yeux Paint and the one I use the most is Petite Culotte as well! It’s ridiculous. I also don’t think I’d be able to replicate the artistry that’s in the promo pictures for that shade - it’s seriously such a huge fantasy that she’s selling and I am hypnotized by it completely. Shopping your stash and using those liners is a great way to scratch the itch for now. We can stay strong! Thank you so much for this comment. It honestly made my day! I first saw MAC's Cobalt eyeshadow in March and have yet to pull the trigger. I got some other more everyday gray shades on that trip. I've had LA Girl's cobalt eyeliner in my cart for so long and even though its like $3 I just haven't got it yet because am I really going to use it often?? idk.... I'm not so interested in having makeup that I don't use all the time bogging down my already-full vanity table. I love your low-buy updates! Keeps me strong! 💪🏼💖✨☺
