I saw the movie at the theater behinds Von's Super Market at the corner of Highland and Sterling Avenues. I was 14 yrs old at the time - so we were riding Schwinn single speed Moto Cross bikes back then. I grew-up living on Arden Av 5 houses up north of Pumalo.

Sorry but as much respect as I have for the original, the remake is massively superior. Not only it made $240M on a $90M budget, but the new Eleanor turned into the most replicated car ever, starting a years long legal battle over the name. The 40+ minute chase sequence is actually quite amazing. I also enjoyed the female dispatcher and her computer, and the two detectives with their radio talk. The fact that it's almost 40 years old adds more fun to watching it. Oh, and also another fun car chase is the one in "Strange Shadows in an Empty Room", which apparently goes by other names as well.

Many of the "actors" were actually friends and family of Toby. There's so many stories about this movie... Real bystanders, unaware of the filming, yelled at the (acted) "police officers" to help the "crash victims"... The crash into a lineup of Caddies at a dealership going wrong: the crash should only affect Toby's own Caddies, but in fact some of the real dealerships cars were dmaged and had to be paid for by Toby ... and many more.

I’m from LA and one time I decided to find the exact off-ramp where the light pole crash was filmed. And I found it, it’s on I-110 North at the exit to 223rd street just before Sepulveda. And that stretch of I-110 looks exactly the same now as it did in the movie.

A couple of years back a buddy just went on a ride all over the country with his kids for a month. The *two* "1973" Challengers ("Jill") were 'updated' 1970 models ; one was a 440 powered R/T (the t-boned one which was getting cut up after being purchased at that auction) , the other was a 383 two barrel model (stolen from the LAX airport lot). Both were built in Los Angeles Assembly ; R/Ts V.I.N. exhibited in one scene ( *JS23U0E* ) ; regular hardtop's V.I.N. in another scene ( *JH23L0E* ).

@@milfordh.mercado2787 , *Both* cars were sacrificed for the film: - *JS23U0E* was cut-up (the "1973" model purchased at the auction) and stripped of its V.I.N. and other parts ; - *JH23L0E* had the V.I.N from the 440 R/T swapped onto it , along with the 440, etc. That's the one which was thrown into the crush & grind machine after the chase from *Prince* *Chrysler* *Plymouth* while hooked to the slingback tow truck. The first car - the 440 Magnum R/T - would be worth quite a bit these days. It was loaded with options; I seem to recall that it had the *Super* *Performance* *Axle* *Package* (4.10 Dana) among other desirable options. But, back in 1972, 1973, it - and its 383 two barrel "twin" - was merely a 2 - 3 year old car.

A *great* film with a solid cast (Robert Mitchum, Peter Boyle, etc.). The Road Runner is *GY3* *Curious* *Yellow* , a 1971 - only colour. Do yourself a favour, and watch that film.

The real deal. Great video! The main driver and producer of the movie (H.B. Halicki) was badly injured while making the movie. While the rescue crews were helping him after the accident, his main concern was that the filming crew got it on video… what an animal!

I was just at the Long Beach Grand Prix this weekend. Whenever I see the International Towers building (the round one) I always remember the scene as he pulled out of the underground garage there, bluffing the cop. You can also see the old Long Beach Arena in the background when it was still kind of pink & white colors (before the Weyland whale mural).

I saw the smashed surviving original Eleanor Mustang in the Peterson Museum in 2021 but she was part of a display that was roped off so no hands on or peeking inside of her. Many movie cars there and the James Bond exhibit is fabulous when displayed!

But yes, as with most Nick Cage car films, it gets ruined at some point by very shabby CGI that's so bad it looks like it was a clip taken from a bad 1990s TV show. They ruined Drive Angry in the same exact way unfortunately 😳

Halicki is an incredibly greedy woman. She attempted to claim ownership of the Eleanor copyright, which was based on a 1967 Shelby. Fortunately the courts did the right thing and the Shelby estate prevailed.

Not sure about the cars starting as MACH1 Mustangs. I saw the real car at Peterson and the car has ZERO MACH1 trim or parts including the interior. I kinda doubt HB would buy Mach1 and remove all those parts to replace them with base models parts. Note the flat base model hood and base model grille. A great film. BTW HB toured with the car when the film came out.....and I saw hima nd car in Charlotte.

Not all MACH Is had the the twin scoop hood. The one I have originally had the flat hood. I was ten when my friends mom bought it new. He got it in high school, I bought from him a couple years ago. It''s a real MACH I . There were so many options for the model year, you could get them many diiferent ways.
