There is one thing a lot of people don't do : that is partition their drive windows requires 100gb to run without issues most drives are 500gb or more show then how to do this in windows and with other software. If windows needs to be re-installed data on second partition is generally safe. Do you agree with this?
@supremerulah4204 ай бұрын
Yah, but may run into issues for apps installed on the secondary partition, due to the registry in case of reinstall of Windows.
@DavidM20024 ай бұрын
Yes. I partition with the built in DiscMgr utility. Just shrink drive C: and then create and format the new volume which will normally be D: . Once that is done, I move all of my data files to D: so that I can backup the operating system and data separately more easily / cleanly.
@Alan-rt3se4 ай бұрын
@@supremerulah420 I partition the boot drive into C and D, and I use D for storing documents, music, pictures, and software, but I install the programs on C.

First tip: switch to local account. This is great, but do this first… *Save or copy your files to a common folder like C:\Temp* Then switch to local account Then move the files from C:\Temp to the user folder. Otherwise you may run into issues accessing the files.
@Rood674 ай бұрын
@Mi.KoTa-chYon I don’t understand your response. I was saying to copy C:\User\Documents, Pictures, etc… to a common folder like C:\Temp because windows will view the local account as a different user. There are ways to get to the files, but for noob users that don’t fully understand could get access denied and freak out that they lost their files.

The only thing I would add is: When using a PIN (use 6-8 digits and not 4), and always set a good longer Administrator (default user) account password to help protect against remote connection attacks / public wifi network attacks if it's accidentally set to "Private Network". Also set the UAC to the highest level and set the policy to require the admin password every time an elevated privilege is needed. This makes windows a lot more secure than default settings.
@EIRE552 ай бұрын
Your comment has got my full attention, as I've recently moved from W8.1 to W10, so I'm still finding my way around it. I didn't know I could use more than four digits for my PIN, so I'll change that. I changed it from Public to Private network, and have remote access switched off. I thought it would be safer to be private, but from what you've said, I'm now questioning that. Anyway, if you have any further advise, I'd certainly appreciate it. Many thanks.

I switched to a local account using this method a little while ago after trying without success to install 11 with a local account using every method I could find. It’s such an easy way to switch but I wonder how long MS will keep it available. I was actually surprised that it exists at all.

I've done the same thing, and last week my boot drive crashed so I had to replace it with a different SSD. When I re-installed Windows and MS Office, I logged into my Microsoft account online and was able to re-activate both Windows and Office without a new product key. But day to day, I'm strictly on my local account.

You don't need no group policy to controll updates windows already offers plenty of ways to deal with updates. you can set them to manual in the services menu so that it doesn't even check for updates unless you tell it to. You can pause updates which is what i usually do. I do not like updates or anythng auto installing. don't wanna go to bed an coomputer is fine then wake up in the morning to find an update has screwed up my pc. Even my browsers an apps ar set to manual update.

How useful the registry backup in a .reg file actually is? I mean, as far as I know, merging a .reg file to "restore" it would only _add_ what's gone missing after saving the file, and _change_ back values changed after saving the file. But what if the fix would call for _deleting_ something that was added after saving the file?

Some notes. Cannot recommend RELY ON registry backup or system restore point. They MIGHT be useful, but it's not a good substitution for a full system backup. And saying about it, I wouldn't recommend Hasleo. It's free, that's correct, and it LOOKS good. However you never know what is the plan of this relatively new company from China. To my opinion, not worth to go with them. Instead, AOMEI has a free version, it's probably the best for an average user

I of course have applications that I use which require a MS login, like XBox Game Bar (used for party chat when gaming) and browser-based Outlook (for Calendar). One day I pulled up Windows Settings and noticed that the account displayed was my MS account, even though I've never logged into this computer using that account. Very informative but I do wonder how many would dare try! Folk haven't got extra clever over the years, when VCR's were in vogue many couldn't set the clock let alone do a timer recording! If their kit plays they scrap it and get a new one and have to spend hours getting it on-line, the e-mail working and say all the 'stuff' that was on the old one - gone! I've played with the things since PET's, ZX81's etc and still find them a nightmare! When support for Windows 10 ends I guess I'll have the upheaval as I did when Vista ended, along with so many others. A user friendly system would be great. Just saying .😊

That Hasleo version was a paid one? I used it to create a win on the go usb, free version and I think there were only 4 functions available in the left vertical menu. Or 3 even. Either way, I used a rescuezilla software to clone my usb Win version today. Also free of charge. And clonezilla to clone my 32bit old system. As documented in the screenshot 3:35 restart is not affected. Shutting down never clears certain files caches or settings. If you want your PC fresh do a RESTART not a shutdown RESTART clears the kernel and starts from fresh with all original settings. This is great for fixing audio and graphical issues.

Video was spot on Brian. Thanks for that. Using image files is the most important thing you have to do. With that you can allways go back to a working pc. In my 25 years of using computers I have had personal files on another drive, and that is backed up in another process. In that way the systembackup files can be small. Only Windows and programs that is updated over time is on the C drive on my pc's. 🙂
