But we got some non violent con artist that are somehow "worse" or "on par" with actual serial killers and a woman who made attempts on her kids lives and succeeded in killing one of them.

This keeps getting repeated. I have actually read the original article by the psychologist besides the articles written about it and tiktok shorts. The psychologist stated that in No Country for Old Men was a very realistic representation of a TYPE of psychopaths. This type was a primary prototypical psychopath. I am not studied in psychology but I think this means that Chigur is a good representation of someone with genetic disposition for psychopathy, exhibits overt narcissism and a high score on the psychopathy checklist.The psychologist compares Chighur to real life hitman Richard Kuklinski in a passing comment. Nowhere is it however stated that he is the most realistic depiction of psychopaths in general. The psychologist also mentioned Gordon Gekko from the movie Wall Street as an realistic example of a nonviolent psychopath. Gekko is described as a primary manipulative type of pychopath. This means that Gekko is similar Chighur in how his psychopathy shows in his affect and interpersonal relationships. Gekko however differs in that his lifestyle is not that of a classic psychopath unlike Chigur who is a career criminal. The psychologist compares Gekko in passing to Bernie Maddof who is number 10 on this Watchmojo video. PS:I am not studied in psychology so I am just repeating what I am getting from the article.

I worked in mental health for 40+ years and 'met' both in my professional capacity but always recall the words from an elderly psychiatrist when I was a younger fellow during my training. He said he didn't know what was wrong with the term "a nasty bastard with no end to their selfishness". Fair enough.

As with many, if not all serial killers, Dorothea Puente had a horrible upbringing. This led to her inability to feel empathy or compassion, including for her own children. She had several and did not raise a single one of them. All of them have been taken away from her. She had no motherly instincts probably because she never got it from her own mother.

I remember watching that with my grandpa - particularly, and my grandma when I would stay with them. And, that's a documentary I've watched only a few times...there's a lot of tense moments, especially when they're preparing to escape when the late governor Leo Ryan arrived to help get whoever they could, out...and from that point on. Why is it that someone that takes money is given over 120 years in prison, but one that takes a life is given FAR less? I watch a lot of true crime and this is an issue that comes up a lot. Madoff was a jerk, but he got more time than most of the folks I see on COURT CAM and ID Network that end lives. Doesn't make sense. No one can justify that to me, regardless of how they try to spin it.

Dude I totally agree! No amount of non violent thievery should get you more than a century in prison. It seemed weird to me that financial frauds were lumped in with actual killers in this list.

If it is consecutive sentences for several victims, it can add up. Generally, a murder or manslaughter doesn't have many victims (except in rare cases) but in Madoff's case, the number of his (known) victims were so many that even if the sentence for having one victim is relatively short, the sheer number will add up.

@@jacklow9611 Still does not equate. Money isn't as important as a life. Ever. I understand what you're trying to convey. It's just not sensible. Money can be replaced. Lives cannot. To say that a civilized society can incarcerate someone for their entire life for money, but less than 20 years for killing someone is just plain stupid. Murderers should get no deals. No slack. No parole. No second chance.

There are many people who feel some sentencing laws are stupid, but there's no much anyone not in a legislature or higher court can do, since they have no control over what the law says. If you want some control, become a part of the group that make the laws, and do something about it.
