A couple of years ago, one night, I was about to propose to my girlfriend when my roommate Joseph barged into the room out of nowhere, tripped and fell over, breaking a glass table with his face. Totally ruined the mood. Now, I didn't know Joseph THAT well, don't even remember where he was from, but let' just say I put my plans on hold to help him through his injuries. Joseph had gotten big glass shard in his eye, making him completely blind in that eye. He was walking around with one of those cotton pads on his eye for a couple of months. Then suddenly, he disappeared, along with my girlfriend Apparently they'd bonded during the time after his injuries, and eloped together , left me behind without as much as a note. I tried to track them down, but never could. In conclusion, if it hadn't been for cotton eye Joe, I'd have been married a long time ago. Where did you come from, where did you go? it's truly terrible to listen to, but I think Melon has misunderstood what is actually good about it. think about it - a bunch of Swedes call themselves 'Rednex', record a techno version of an old southern country tune about STDs, and sell it to Americans in pretty large numbers. the fact that it was just them making fun of America, and saying we're a bunch of dumbass hicks banging our relatives and getting diseases from it is where the true beauty of this song lies.

Being born in ‘05, I can speak on cotton eye joe, and how much I’ve heard it. For some reason, elementary schools fucking loved this song, and one specific experience sticks out in my mind. My gym teacher had a playlist that she would play every class, and this was on it. Doing some simple math, I was in elementary school for 6 years, we had gym every day, there are 180 days of school in a year, so that means I’ve heard cotton eyed joe 1080 times in gym class alone, not to mention weddings, other classes, and pep rally’s. I’d peg the total number around 1200.

Where did you come from, cotton eye Joe?
