The ref was giving hisoka more points due to him knowing exactly what Hisoka capable of, he realised Gon would never be able to win and wanted to end the match before it became a massacre
@emptank
@emptank 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the ref knew they had just sent a child to have a fight with serial killer which is really fucked up. He knew that once Hisoka took the fight seriously Gon was going to die so he wanted to end it as quickly as possible which is admirable even if it turned him into another obstacle for Gon on his journey. The alternative was either for Gon to take a massive beat down which would've been a huge downer to end the arc on, or for him to somehow overcome Hisoka which would've ruined him as a future antagonist. Losing on a technicality keeps the loss from undercutting Gon's growth while still keeping Hisoka as a major hurdle that needs to be over come later. Good job on the ref for doing all he could to keep a kid from getting killed for the sake of blood sport.

Yeah but he uses luffy as an example when I think he also doesn’t care that much. He’s chill with croc who tormented his friends country and killed dozens. He’s also cool with Zoro who canonically killed people.
@KatsuImagitian
@KatsuImagitian 3 жыл бұрын
@@georgecontreras1187 Exactly, I even wouldn't say Luffy has an aversion to killing or those who do, he's a pirate that understands those actions. Even Oda explains this in an SBS regarding why Luffy doesn't kill as not that he can't but he feels it's the easy way out and rather beat his opponents to submission and let them wallow in their defeat as he crushes their ambitions. Luffy's morality is very gray and quite self-indulgent if you look into it. He only feels concerned if it actually affects him or those he cares for. Hence his line about not being a hero, Luffy does whatever he feels like and lets others judge him accordingly, what you see is what you get. For example, he wouldn't help a homeless person out of obligation or morality but because he just decides to on a whim or he'd leave well enough alone.

That’s why it’s so great later on when he encounters remorseless killers and is driven into a blinding rage when he sees that they care about their own loved ones. He’s not outraged by their ability to inflict senseless violence; he’s outraged by the fact that they do so and yet AREN’T soulless, uncaring monsters. The fact that he is deeply outraged by this but either doesn’t or willfully refuses to recognize the same quality in Killua was always particularly powerful to me.

My headcanon on why Killua knew nothing of nen before Heaven's Arena is that his family simply hid it from him. Like Wing said, nen is very dangerous and unpredictable in the wrong hands. Killua is the heir of the family, so they were probably hiding it from him until he was older and they determined he was brainwashed enough to lead the family.

That, or they were holding off until they were certain Killua would manifest his nen using some form of electricity; so, Silva and Grandpa Zoldyk could pass on the family techniques, which were clearly not compatible with Illumi, and Killua’s other siblings that seemed to have been exposed to nen much earlier in their childhood than Killua. This would explain all the electroshock treatment/torture at least.

I love how NEN was already being used since the beginning and did not simply start existing once the characters found out about it. Also, when Wing explains about "making a simples card into a solid blade", we do not have any flashbacks of Hisoka, we simply understand it through his explanation. So not having an unnecessary flashback already made love the story even more...

@@DarkIceKrabby Goku wouldn't approve, but he wouldn't chastise him too much given they're still fighters. Whenever someone unnecessarily kills even an enemy Goku wags his finger, like when Vegeta killed the Ginyu Force. He felt more strongly about Majin Vegeta nuking a town but evem then he still got over it and immediately forgave Vegeta when he came to his senses. Killing one person would just upset Goku long enough until he got hungry, then he'd forget about it. The best way to think of the nen hexagon is by focusing on Enhancer as a base and how each other category differs from it. Enhancing is basic nen, using the aura around you to strengthen yourself and your abilities. Moving to either side is a change of how you use your aura. Going to Emitter you take your aura, that was once only used close to your body, and project it outwards, often shooting as an attack. Manipulation then takes that a step further and you then take your projected aura and put it into an object or another person. On the other side you have Transmutation. Changing the properties of your aura, like Hisoka's bungee-gum and texture surprise. Making his aura sticky and rubbery or changing its appearance. Taking THAT a step further you have Conjuration. Changing the properties of your nen to such a degree that you can create objects out of your aura. Specialist then, is the farthest from "natural enhancing" doing completely unique things with aura that often times literally no others can do.

I guess thats where some of the hxh overhyping comes from, people just saying, "gawd damnn it looks just so cool", its like that idk what its called again that god of highschool, just random fights with good animation, atleast gon vs hisoka was more than just good animation but i wont really ever get the people who value the cool visuals of the fight wayyy more than what the fight is even about, like netero vs meruem, ive looked around and there are some intresting things going on in the fight but its nothing really too insane, but somehow i see people saying this is like earth shattering and revelotinized anime as a whole and was created by god itself and like HOLD UP wtf are you talking about? did we watch the same fight? so i just wont really ever understand people who put a lot of value into "this fight LOOKS cool" sorry for ranting
@isaiascanete6651
@isaiascanete6651 3 жыл бұрын
@@thevipez8740 netero vs meruem is a clash of ideologies, peak of human effort vs peak of evolution of a species, individual against colony, old vs new. It's interesting because the "good guy" ends up using hellish weapons to win against an "evil guy" who never stopped praising him. I get that you can feel it being overhyped, but on a thematic level is a rich fight and is animated and storyboarded in a way that each moment hits. As a fight the only thing missing was more strategy, it was basically ""I'm gonna beat the shit out of you" vs "I'm gonna learn every move to surpass you"
@thevipez8740
@thevipez8740 3 жыл бұрын
@@isaiascanete6651 Like i told you, i already know what its about "individual against colony" this doesnt really make sense like it has an intrsting premise and it executes it well, but like katakuri vs luffy for example like theres tons of fights in manga and anime that pit two ideals or views against each other, look at for example luffy and how similar but opposite he is from blackbeard, but i dont really see how this fight is anything ground shattering, its good, it does what it wants to do well, but then i hear "this changed anime forever" like wtf? im just confused who tf like and i ask these people and i ask also random people since im genuinly confused why people hold this fight to not just a high regard, when its just pretty good/ decent, but they instead hold it to some godly peak of fiction revelotionized story telling as we know it, and i think maybe it comes from people thinking big gold statue striking ant-person with cool animation, i think that has something to do with it, that it just looked cool therefore they thought it was something just earth shattering

To possibly explain why Killua has never been exposed to Nen: In fitting with Killua's character he, as a child, most likely made it to where he could go to the 200th floor, said "welp, I did it." Reading the manga, I really was astonished at how smoothly the arcs move into each other and set up future arcs. Yorknew City is set up right before the Heaven's Arena arc, so the HA arc becomes a vehicle for the YC arc. And next week, Mark will see the YC arc becoming a vehicle for a future, FUTURE arc! It feels like Togashi isn't just improvising and coming up with new trouble for the heroes to face after one arc is done. Having a clear agenda set up makes it much less convenient or unlucky how Gon and friends get into these adventures. By the way, Mark, fun fact: in the manga and 2011 versions, the handsome co-commentator in the Gon vs Hisoka fight is the main character from Togashi's mystery manga, Level-E. And in the 1999, the dog mask-wearing man is supposed to be Togashi himself, as he often represents himself through that dog icon and his wife, Naoto Takeuchi (mangaka of Sailor Moon) with a rabbit in the intersections between chapters in the manga.

Gon is more serious and is more complex,biased and smart in a tactical sense while Luffy tends to be much more simple and and smart but in a more emotional sense. Luffy does what he wants and is while Gon tries to do what's best for his friends and allies. I think their differences are most clear was when they lost someone close to them (Kite and Ace). Luffy experienced grief while Gon experiences rage and hatred.

I just want to say that with the spectacular analysis you’ve put forth with the dive into hxh so far, and this may sound like a weird compliment, but damn, the music you’ve chosen to use in the background of these videos has been stellar. I’ve always thought no matter how good a piece of media is on its own, the background music paired with it can make or break it. Here it absolutely adds to quality of your reviews and make it all the more enjoyable to watch and absorb. Superb job man.

@@sunwukong5518 Yeah, Hisoka looked to be almost proud of Gon for his progress as a fighter, when Gon returned his badge. I liked that ending more but the 2011 ver. is a close second behind it.

What I love about Nen is you were to approach it in a vacuum of only the 3 subcategories enhancer/emitter/transmuter a person might think it has just as much power creep as anything else and sure depending on the match up it can feel that way. Yet looking at it as whole you suddenly see that there is such a large variety of abilities and what they can do that even those more traditional raw power characters can easily lose out when the other subcategories come into play. One piece also has some amount of this, but I feel like HxH delves far deeper into this aspect.

Fantastic review as always. One thing I'd like to point out is that both in the manga and in the anime there's an interview with the referee, and it shows he was decidedly biased against Gon because he sensed letting the fight go on for long would endanger Gon's life. Hisoka had the track record of having killed all his previous opponent, so the referee wanted to end the fight quickly as a way to protect Gon's life.
