The ref was giving hisoka more points due to him knowing exactly what Hisoka capable of, he realised Gon would never be able to win and wanted to end the match before it became a massacre
@emptank3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the ref knew they had just sent a child to have a fight with serial killer which is really fucked up. He knew that once Hisoka took the fight seriously Gon was going to die so he wanted to end it as quickly as possible which is admirable even if it turned him into another obstacle for Gon on his journey. The alternative was either for Gon to take a massive beat down which would've been a huge downer to end the arc on, or for him to somehow overcome Hisoka which would've ruined him as a future antagonist. Losing on a technicality keeps the loss from undercutting Gon's growth while still keeping Hisoka as a major hurdle that needs to be over come later. Good job on the ref for doing all he could to keep a kid from getting killed for the sake of blood sport.

@KatsuImagitian3 жыл бұрын
@@georgecontreras1187 Exactly, I even wouldn't say Luffy has an aversion to killing or those who do, he's a pirate that understands those actions. Even Oda explains this in an SBS regarding why Luffy doesn't kill as not that he can't but he feels it's the easy way out and rather beat his opponents to submission and let them wallow in their defeat as he crushes their ambitions. Luffy's morality is very gray and quite self-indulgent if you look into it. He only feels concerned if it actually affects him or those he cares for. Hence his line about not being a hero, Luffy does whatever he feels like and lets others judge him accordingly, what you see is what you get. For example, he wouldn't help a homeless person out of obligation or morality but because he just decides to on a whim or he'd leave well enough alone.

My headcanon on why Killua knew nothing of nen before Heaven's Arena is that his family simply hid it from him. Like Wing said, nen is very dangerous and unpredictable in the wrong hands. Killua is the heir of the family, so they were probably hiding it from him until he was older and they determined he was brainwashed enough to lead the family.

That, or they were holding off until they were certain Killua would manifest his nen using some form of electricity; so, Silva and Grandpa Zoldyk could pass on the family techniques, which were clearly not compatible with Illumi, and Killua’s other siblings that seemed to have been exposed to nen much earlier in their childhood than Killua. The best way to think of the nen hexagon is by focusing on Enhancer as a base and how each other category differs from it. Enhancing is basic nen, using the aura around you to strengthen yourself and your abilities. Moving to either side is a change of how you use your aura. Going to Emitter you take your aura, that was once only used close to your body, and project it outwards, often shooting as an attack. Manipulation then takes that a step further and you then take your projected aura and put it into an object or another person. On the other side you have Transmutation. Changing the properties of your aura, like Hisoka's bungee-gum and texture surprise. Making his aura sticky and rubbery or changing its appearance. Taking THAT a step further you have Conjuration. Changing the properties of your nen to such a degree that you can create objects out of your aura. Specialist then, is the farthest from "natural enhancing" doing completely unique things with aura that often times literally no others can do.

Almost everything that happens before the Yorknew arc is almost like preparation for that arc. The first few arcs establish the characters, nen and then puts them all in a very chaptic and unpredictable environment. It's really no wonder that the arc is so amazing when a person like Togashi writes it.

To possibly explain why Killua has never been exposed to Nen: In fitting with Killua's character he, as a child, most likely made it to where he could go to the 200th floor, said "welp, I did it." Turned right around, and went home without exploring the 200th floor because that's not what he was told to do.

My thoughts exactly. As for how he recognized his Grandpa's Nen ability I just chalk it up to flubbed writing (especially with his health as bad as it was as he continued). A strange thing to say given what ends up happening during the 3rd act of the Arc.

I don't know about the 1999 anime but for the 2011 anime it's revealed that the reason Gon got barley any points was because the ref wanted to end the match quickly because he was being wary of the power gap between Gon and Hisoka and didn't want Gon to get hurt.

I have heard that the reason the early portion of 2011’s adaptation has some toning down of the violence is because of time slot concerns and that starting around Yorknew it got moved to a later time slot which allowed for more violence and blood to be shown.
@trace53983 жыл бұрын
It was moved to a different time slot from episode 99, so on Chimera Ant. Previous time slot was Sunday morning and they switched to... 1:30 AM at Wednesday. You could think the budget for the episodes shrunk with such a change, but surprisingly you could even say the animation improved from this point, because of episoodes like 116, 126, 131 or 135.
@3slicessenpai3 жыл бұрын
Reading the manga, I really was astonished at how smoothly the arcs move into each other and set up future arcs. Yorknew City is set up right before the Heaven's Arena arc, so the HA arc becomes a vehicle for the YC arc. And next week, Mark will see the YC arc becoming a vehicle for a future, FUTURE arc! It feels like Togashi isn't just improvising and coming up with new trouble for the heroes to face after one arc is done. Having a clear agenda set up makes it much less convenient or unlucky how Gon and friends get into these adventures. By the way, Mark, fun fact: in the manga and 2011 versions, the handsome co-commentator in the Gon vs Hisoka fight is the main character from Togashi's mystery manga, Level-E. And in the 1999, the dog mask-wearing man is supposed to be Togashi himself, as he often represents himself through that dog icon and his wife, Naoto Takeuchi (mangaka of Sailor Moon) with a rabbit in the intersections between chapters in the manga.

Luffy experienced grief while Gon experiences rage and hatred.

What I love about Nen is you were to approach it in a vacuum of only the 3 subcategories enhancer/emitter/transmuter a person might think it has just as much power creep as anything else and sure depending on the match up it can feel that way. Yet looking at it as whole you suddenly see that there is such a large variety of abilities and what they can do that even those more traditional raw power characters can easily lose out when the other subcategories come into play. One piece also has some amount of this, but I feel like HxH delves far deeper into this aspect.

Fantastic review as always. One thing I'd like to point out is that both in the manga and in the anime there's an interview with the referee, and it shows he was decidedly biased against Gon because he sensed letting the fight go on for long would endanger Gon's life. Hisoka had the track record of having killed all his previous opponent, so the referee wanted to end the fight quickly as a way to protect Gon's life.
