Its the same way Kid Goku reuniting with Grandpa Gohan hits cause its like we've seen these boys be so optimistic & positive Majority of the time & just seeing them break down when meeting a family member they really wanted to just hits the feels chord everytime for me.

The birth of Naruto arc still stands to be the reason why Minato is my favorite character in the franchise. For the reasons Mark said and beyond. There's something about him that just speaks calm, level-headed, and loving. His interactions with his wife were some of the most loving scenes in possibly the entirety of Naruto, and he died with probably the most appropriate way possible; with his wife, both of them protecting their one and only son.

At the time, most fans knew him from the games as "The Yellow Flash", a mysterious silent figure with absurd light-based powers. Respectfully, I disagree. I felt confused... they JUST did the whole 'parent sealed away to guide him at a crossroads in his life', the fact that they did it twice was just... confusing. That both of his parents synched up and sealed themselves THIS specifically in this convenient way, while being turned into donuts by the 9-tails... it just went past believability for me, even within this world of magic ninja-wizards and tailed kaijus. It was too far gone for me.

There was one subtle hint that foreshadowed the big reveal that was spoiled for you. That was the similarity (or rather contrast) to the mangeyko sharingan ability in kajashi’s left eye to obito’s right. It was around the time after sausage v. Danzo. Obits warned Kakashi, “your sharingan won’t work on me.” Sealed the deal for me as an audience member back when that episode premiered.

Pretty much every scene with Naruto getting to meet his parents is S-tier. I didn't know about the detail of Kishimoto and his wife collaborating on the Kushina scenes but that 100% explains the pure love that comes across in her's and Minato's characters. The moments here and during the Pain fight have gotta be some of the best moments in anime and manga.

Man, when Kushina appeared, and we finally got the full story on her, and minato, not gonna lie; I had some major feels there too. It was a beautiful and tragic part of the story. The one aspect I dislike about this part, or rather, time of the story is how over the top stupid it becomes with the power scaling. You'll see for yourself what I mean in time. But Naruto's Jinchuriki mode (or whatever its called, its been a while), while it was predicted it would happen, still felt like it hits a point of godlike abilities and powers unlike anything we've seen so far. I love the series from start to finish, but when you look at where you are now, then look back to how it started, it kind of always felt like night and day. Anyway, keep up the splendid work Mark, and Editor-San as well.

It was hinted a lot that ninja's could reach that point. World ending beasts existed, and there were ninja's who used them for "personal" battles. I think it was mysteriously kept (using Naruto's POV) rather than something that never just existed. People with giant beasts and capability to summon the dead was there from OG Naruto.

@@A_000 As I said, it was hinted at before. In some cases, fully displayed. We've seen Gara transform of course, and the readers have seen the 2-tailed beast and 8 tailed beast fight. And Orochimaru controlled the dead before. But what happens during this ninja war is going to be a couple of steps above that, which is why I said this was the point where it started feeling absurd, compared to the start. Its still enjoyable, but a different kind of enjoyable. Esspecially when you take into consideration that Naruto and Sasuke, are like.. what, 16? They're practically shinobi GODS at this point.

As beautiful as this segment of Naruto’s story is, it really just solidifies in my eyes how terrible of a Hokage Hiruzen was over the course of Naruto’s early life. His mishandling of Danzo and how little he did to help Naruto so he wouldn’t be alone, left scrambling for food in an empty apartment and ostracized by the entire village really makes me think he dropped the ball. Minato would be ashamed at how the Third botched everything.

Yea, the Danzo stuff is a bit complicated by their relationship, and Hiruzen's reluctant acceptance of the necessity of most of Danzo's actions. But the way he just did not provide for Naruto and allowed the village to resent him was just inexcusable

Hiruzen really wasn't a bad Hokage. It was hard to deal with Danzo as a lot of stuff he did was without Hiruzen's permission and he did his best to help Naruto hut he couldn't suddenly force people to like him. He left him enough money to buy enough food, and he couldn't force people to like him, so he didn't really drop the ball, he did the best he could. Honestly...I feel kind of bad for Hiruzen with the mess he was left with, right when he thought he could finally retire from being Hokage Minato died only a year and a half after becoming Hokage, then that just left him with a very big mess to deal with after being Hokage for 40+ years.

For starters, hiding the truth from Naruto might not have been the best choice. Plus, doing nothing to help integrate Naruto to the rest of the village wasn't a smart move. He wasn't an abhorrent hokage, in fact I'd say he was probably the best hokage konoha ever had, but he could have done more in those 12 years to help Naruto.

The truth about the nine tails? Eh...if they told him that then he may just hate himself even more for something he can't even control. If you mean the truth about his parents well...then they run a big risk of someone like Naruto spouting out to people (even if by accident) that he's the fourth Hokage's son which may just put more targets on his back He may have done something...besides he couldn't just force people to like Naruto. I dunno if I would call him the best Hokage but he is a really great Hokage, I dunno if he could have done more as he did seem to do the best he could have done.

Considering how they backtracked with a lot of Naruto’s origin story where he was completely alone his entire childhood to suddenly having Choji and Shikamaru as his close friends, it would make sense to have Naruto and Asuma maybe interact more considering he would be his only friend’s sensei and it would allow Hiruzen to give Naruto a place to belong and be raised without bringing as much attention if he himself opted to raise him.

Yep, and we get into the character who has the worst parts of Frieza and Aizen combined: Extremely overpowered to the point that no one else is a threat without some BS, and is behind everything in the story(except when he isn't). Madara would have been a fine character if he had left undefeated with the dispelling of the reanimation technique, but it just goes on and on in escalation. Curbstomps can only go on so long before getting boring.

I wouldn't worry that much about being spoiled. A surprising story is good only once, while a well crafted story has much more to offer. Stories that manage to sneak in subtle forshadowing to future twist are a joy to read through with greater context.

I actually feel knowing Obito's identity beforehand seems to increase the overall enjoyment of a lot of new comers reading/watching now. Back then, it was a huge point of contention for fans because it was a mystery that was in the works for years and years, just for it to be the most obvious answer. There were so many theories and speculations on who Tobi/Madara was and once it was revealed a lot of people were upset, myself included at the time. But seeing new fans already knowing that information they seem to be able to enjoy the story more rather than getting hung up on that detail, and I find myself feeling similarly now having gone through the material again knowing where it leads. Still really shitting of them to spoil you like that though

It's something that still leaves a bad taste in my mouth, largely because they need a lot of retcons to justify the reveal. It gets into convoluted territory pretty quickly, and it takes itself a bit too seriously for my liking.

To be fair Tobi is practically an anagram for Obito, and one eyed sharingan users we have been presented is limited, and that one eye was the oposite of Kakashis. From a narrative standpoint it's almost guaranteed to be someone earlier presented to us rather than some rando too. I felt it's pretty easy to connect the dots on that one. But still you don't know 100% until it's confirmed, and it is a real bad move spoiling it, but i get that the feeling intended should be more of a "aha I knew it" rather than "OMG WHAT!?" so I'm still excited to see what your thoughts are.

Kushina's final words to her son, makes me cry every single time. Things that parents should have a life time to teach their children, she only had a couple of minutes to a newborn who wouldn't be able to recall them later on in life. Breaks my heart.

you know, I am always so happy when these reviews come out, usually I watch them in two parts while eating over a day.. but the moment you started talking about the kushina and minato and showing all the scenes again I immediately bursted into tears again.. its such a mageficient moment, so tragic and sad and yet so lovable and joyful at the same time.. I fully understand why it destroyed you, as it did me aswell, back then and even now when confronted with it. When naruto and sasuke had there clash. I liked the small detail of narutos left arm guarding his body. Unlike that final clash in the valley of the end, when he couldn’t use his left arm and ended up taking a blow too the chest. Ultimately losing.

I remember realising it around that time and I don't know if it was ever directly explained but I found it cool that the Sage jutsu retroactively explained how Orochimaru looked so snake-ish. (same for Kabuto if you didn't know) They must've had their problems learning to control their kind of sage chakra which permanently altered their appearance

It is sucks that some guy spoiled you in your blind review, but I was grateful that it didn't discourage you on your blind review. Also in regard to that Karin scene, there was apparently a kind of debate going on. Kinda because the majority agrees that, yes, the dark, cold chakra that Karin feels in Naruto is the Kyuubi, but some minorities cite that Karin should be familiar with Bijuu chakra since she's been there during Killer Bee capture mission and saw him turning into the 8 tails. They think that what Karin feels is Naruto's own Hatred towards hos circumstances and the peeps in Konoha, which manifested as Dark Naruto in the Waterfall of Truth. It was an interesting theory in my opinion, but it was painfully clears that Kyuubi'a Chakra is the one that Karin felt

Scene with Kushina is just so heart warming, it's the scene that reminds everyone that despite all of his achievements Naruto still a kid who misses his Mom. It's these kinds of scene where all powerful characters confront something that reminds the audience that they're still human, that they deal with the same issues as we do and these scenes stick with me.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed this section of the story. For me, I would have to say I have a few issues with the direction we start to head in. My major issue is with Gaara's speech, which I feel is a great speech which speaks to his character a lot and how much he's grown, but the fact that it convinced these people who have been killing each other for generations to fight alongside each other is quite unbelievable for me and breaks some of the immersion for this series. Another thing would have to be the nature in which 'Madara' escaped from Konan's attack, which you did not mention, was the Izanagi, which is a problematic jutsu which basically allows for some very overpowered abilities (I won't explain because it might be unexplained so far), and honestly it feels like it has come out of nowhere to serve certain purposes. On top of this, it might just be me, but I feel like the scenes in which Naruto meets his parents, while very touching and emotional, feel a little contrived in the way that they saved Naruto both times without a satisfying explanation (them randomly revealing that they sealed some chakra inside him doesn't do it for me). Most of my gripes with the war arc are coming up though, so I am interested to see your thoughts on those. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy it more than I did!

The war arc could and should had been better.I have a problem with the way that Edo Tensei was used in this arc... too many characters, it was impossible to gave development to all of them, many are there just to fight. Also sasori and deidara, are 2 characters that i wished that had more screen time in this arc, since they haven´t done so much, specially sasori, they way he goes out was well done but too soon, but like you said, the major problems are yet to come...

Honestly, Mark's reviews tell me that the fanbase for Naruto underrates their own anime. Even Mark has noted it, people keep INSISTING that Naruto "only goes downhill from here" since like.... part 1? And yet every time Mark watches the next part, he keeps talking about how much he thinks it's great. Like, people, I don't know why you all keep complaining. This show is awesome. Kaguya and over reliance on plant fodder ninjas cut the tension. Plus when naruto and sasuke got dragon ball z level, the story felt unreal and kinda not authentic. Lost its grounded level. Madara got played like a fodder. And destiny power was off putting and hypocritical

Don't worry _too much_ about having been spoiled on that one thing, a lot of us had already figured it out by this point (to the extent where the whole thing kind of ran into a problem of "it has to be this, if it's not then it won't make any sense", which meant when the time for the reveal came it was a question of "is it the thing we already know it to be, or is it going to be some thoroughly idiotic out-of-nowhere twist?" - which isn't _bad,_ but it's nice when mysteries have more than one possible solution that'd make some sense). Still absolutely sucks that it got spoiled for you, but thankfully it's one of the less intrusive possibilities overall.

17:52 One of the reasons My Hero Academia was made was because Horikoshi was a fan of Naruto but preferred Rock Lee and Might Guy and that's how Deku and All Might got their personalities. Bakugo was apparently intended to be more like Naruto. This was after his first draft (more of a dark, Batman meets Ninja Turtles like story) didn't really go anywhere :/

To be fair being spoiled on the Tobi reveal is the authentic Naruto experience. I have never meet a single person that wasn't spoiled or figured out the reveal. Mostly because fans figured it out years before the reveal came by simply rearranging the letters in "Obito" so it became "Tobi".
