@alricfremanosrs1509Ай бұрын
The way tariffs work, ideally but not always. Is when your country produces a comodity domestically, but another country is able to produce the same commodity for much cheaper. If you import the cheap goods, prices come down at the cost of domestic jobs and money leaving your domestic economy. Placing a tariff on the importation of good that you are producing domestically makes the import less competitive, the higher priced locally produced goods dont have to compete against producers that essentially have access to slave labor. While the prices will be higher, there are more jobs and money in the economy to spend on goods and you get to not buy stuff produced by sweatshops.
@kennycubensis8152Ай бұрын
They've already worked, John Deere stopped building a plant in Mexico after Trump said he would put a 200% tariff on them, so they wouldn't make enough money selling tractors on the US causing them to buy other brands so John Deere decide to build in the US. That's the point, cause importing things makes the price go up so they skimp on quality and we end up where we are now
@sol-hunter2332Ай бұрын
You can also use the tariffs to negotiate with the other countries (for instance, China has tariffs against imports from the U.S.), and can also shift to other countries for imports instead (like Vietnam vs. China). Also, also, having production in house would help protect us from economic ruin if we did (God forbid) go to war with China.

That's a good question. Those sound like valid concerns we can discuss, but the problems arise when the people helping you to argue those things are sabotaging your arguments with hate and vitriol. They should just as much be your enemy. If you're giving honest and constructive arguments against those issues and actively speak against the hate and vitriol others give, then you are right to be angry that people include you with them. If you kept quiet because the hate and vitriol benefited your position, then that is implicit support of it. From what I've seen, the main issue causing people to claim hate and vitriol is concern over the motivations behind the weaponization of misinformation and the demonization of the character of trans people. There are fair arguments against trans women in sports and against permanently changing kids bodies. The problems start when most of the right doesn't care about any of those arguments. They're angry they need to think about it and they're angry anyone is taking it seriously, so they readily spread/believe misinformation and lies so that it goes from a complicated issue with nuance to evil plans motivated by conspiracy and perversion. They say things like "Trans women are dominating the industry and winning every sport they compete in", but when you look into the data, that is very rarely the case. Some studies find that many, possibly a majority, of trans women lose significant muscle mass and are at a disadvantage to biological woman in most sports. Sure, I'm more than happy to talk about the elite trans athletes excelling due to unfair advantages, but why is the rest of the trans population irrelevant to be discussed as part of the conversation? They have defined all trans people as groomers. Why are they calling them this? Are they actually accusing them of being pedophiles? Are they accusing them of intentionally brainwashing kids to grow up to become gay and trans? Are they grooming children simply by existing in society? There is no agreement on this and, as far as I can tell, they don't care which justification has any merit. Ideally all of them should work together to demonize trans people as threats. They say that children are having surgeries performed on them in secret without the parents knowledge, that kids are using litter boxes in school, or any number of false claims with no cases reported anywhere. They're saying that hundreds of thousands to millions of kids are currently receiving gender reassignment treatment, but the number is so low it shocks every anti-trans debater/politician who hears it. After they're corrected, they usually make no effort to spread awareness that they were wrong and will often continue to use that same misinformation in their arguments as though it were true. The studies they point to are almost always misunderstood interpretations of the data which the very same study explicitly warns you not to assume, are so flawed that they are redacted, ignored when the studies they point to are redone to account for flaws in methodology but find different outcomes, or come from extremely biased sources that are not respected in the scientific community. It's really frustrating when you're trying to have a constructive conversation on these issues, but when you bring up any counterpoints they rarely even try to give a valid defense. They immediately reject your issues as being lies or claim conspiracy, yet their evidence of conspiracy suffers from many of the same issues. I don't know for sure why this keeps happening to the right. I've heard some good arguments but they're always from the center or moderate left, never the right. The right gets angry at the moderate left for taking the questions and concerns seriously. It does all sounds a lot like discriminative lies where it doesn't matter how much of it is true, only that it makes people angry and gives them ammo to demonize their enemies and justify their opinions.

All the Trans ads were based on children and it being pushed upon them. Kids aren't allowed can't get tattoos in some states some have parental consent, Kids can't drink, and children can't give consent so why are we mutilating children at a young age. Also, She wanted taxpayers to pay for Illegal immigrants to transition and also having criminals in prison would be allowed to transition on taxpayer money.

17:35 My understanding of tariffs is like how KZbin or Twitch gets a cut of all the ad and view revenue from your videos. In this analogy, the "ads/videos" are the products made in China or another country that are being sold in America. Americans are the viewers consuming the product from other countries. So the viewers might have to "watch an ad" (pay a sales tax) on a product made in another country, but with a tariff in place, those countries would have to give a cut of their revenue to the U.S. government (which is equivalent to KZbin and Twitch) in order to host their products (which are equivalent to videos) in the U.S. It wouldn't completely eliminate taxes for Americans, but with the government making a lot more money from other countries this way, it would reduce the need for them to tax the U.S.'s own citizens so heavily. You may not see the difference in products' prices necessarily, but you would definitely see a difference in how much or your own paycheck would be taken through income tax or when tax season comes around. Not sure if you're gonna read this, Nux, but I hope it makes sense. Great video, by the way! I'm here for the chaos o7
@xeno-andrewАй бұрын
small point. US citizens pay the tariff. Example: 25% import tariff on cars, means the dealers have to pay the tariff which raises the price here. Can bypass by importing/making components and building here.
@t-rizzle0016Ай бұрын
@@xeno-andrew I honestly think the goal is to encourage more US manufacturing whether or not it works that way is another question
@xeno-andrewАй бұрын
@@t-rizzle0016 exactly, that’s the 2nd part, the bypassing(make it here). The main point though is the tariff itself is paid by citizens. I’m not saying it’s a bad idea or a good idea just who actually pays the tariff. The effect of making domestic more competitive is typically the idea.
@adamdonovan4071Ай бұрын
@@xeno-andrewI think technically indirectly. The company has to pay the tariff, which forces them to raise the price the consumer pays…which is intended to make the consumer choose a non-tariffed product. In the end the effect is that consumer can either choose to buy the tariffed product thus paying the tariff, or opt for a domestic option. The product is tariffed on entry, at which point the customer has not yet chosen to buy the product, so the customer only ever indirectly pays the tariff. It should be noted that this is how all corporate taxes work too though; when we raise corporate taxes the corporation passes that cost on to the consumer via increased prices. The customer always pays, but also always has the choice to avoid paying by making a different choice. We vote every 4 years for president at a ballot box, but we vote every day for policies with our wallets.
@johns6014Ай бұрын
@@t-rizzle0016 To note, Trump implemented tariffs in his first administration, and the economy was dramatically stronger. More incentive to domesticate = more domestic jobs and less import and transit costs = stronger economy with more people making more money. Less incentive to domesticate = businesses leaving for countries with slimmer tax and labor laws = higher import and transit costs = weaker economy with less people working for less money. Tariffs, when applied properly, balance out the negatives (higher priced items due to lower competition from slave-labor model production (less incentive for slave labor is a positive on its own, imo)) with more positives. People who are able to work are also able to afford more. Products that are produced domestically don't have to be shipped as far for as much cost as products that are produced on the other side of the world. Overall, tariffs are a net positive, even before tacking on other things, such as the removal or reduction of certain taxes, including the removal of taxes on tips. Moreover, in 2020, Trump was promising the removal of the federal income tax altogether, and if that carries through to his new administration, and he manages to get that through, then that would be absolutely massive. It's _very_ important to note that the federal income tax hasn't always been a thing. It was first introduced in 1913. Tariffs were used to fund the government before income taxes were put in place.

Adding an extra item for free shipping can have its uses: If shipping is $12 and you need less than $12 to meet the requirement, arguably you’re saving money. $30 + $12 vs $35 + $0
@RikkuEcRudАй бұрын
True, but "Girl Math" is talking about buying another $30 item to "save" the $12 on shipping. Note that it's not included under the umbrella of "Girl Math" if the product is something consumable that you're going to use up either way, only when the extra item is unneeded. Doubling a grocery bill and freezing some of it until you use it to get free shipping, for example, is not part of "Girl Math"

1:35 that chatter was very misleading. Those ads didn't vilify trans people, they were the "Kamala is for They/Them" ads the criticised one of Kamala's proposed policies to spend money on transition surgeries for prisoners; specifically violent murderers. Now you can say what you want about those ads but a violent murderer getting tits and possibly transferring to a women's prison to become a constant threat shouldn't be too high on any Presidential Candidates To-do list.

@ZeroZepherDamselDesensitizedАй бұрын
@VJP8464 Ironically, that might not be a wise thing anymore. It definitely used to be in the past though. Rich people have been rigging the system systemically for many decades now, lobbying and bribing laws and regulations to keep out fresh money. In other words, it takes A TON on money to start a business and even more to meet all of the standards set by the rich people who came before and don't want competition. So if you invest in something nowadays that actually tries to produce value, it's potential is severely crippled. A million dollars all invested in one place is almost impossible to make back on its own. Most modern buildings for businesses alone cost more than a million dollars. Then there's all of the other expenses, like maintenance, worker wages, materials, goods, intellectual properties, management of standards, taxes, etcetera... this is no problem for someone who can spend monopoly money to make it happen at the start, but extremely difficult if you can't. So even a million dollars won't get you far in that regard. It's better to invest it in wise assets that won't depreciate in value over time and will be useful forever. Like a house made out of stone that needs very little to no maintenance when modern houses are made out of basically cardboard and plywood. One cost less than the other over time because of repairs. And your kids can inherit that and use it, even if a business you put money in fails. That kind of thing. But I'm not rich, so what do I know I guess?

Firstly. I grew up poor on a fixed income. I know how to go without if we don’t need something. She grew up middle class with the wealth to always have what she wanted. Secondly. I rotate goods. I’ll buy one kind of cookie one week one kind of chip one week etc. then buy a different kind the next. She buys in bulk. Gets 3 bags of chips so everyone can have what they want. 4 kinds of muffins 3 different cereals. And I’m just like. We realistically don’t eat and need all of this 😅 when I was single. I only spent $60-80 on groceries. Milk. Bread. Lunch meat. Cheese. Pound of beef. And maybe some instant meals. Only ever what I needed.
