Rob - don't feel bad about that shackle failing. In the last years the UK (and the rest of the world) has been flooded with sub standard shakles from the Far East principally China. They look good, same size etc but haven't got the tensile strength particularly if pulled at an angle that they should have. One of the refreshing things about you and Chris is you show your experiences "warts n all" that's what makes me and others value and look forward to watching your channel.

It may be worth considering a set of wheel dollies, which would make these recoveries simple if you take them and a trolley jack. I know it wouldn't have solved the shackle breaking, but dollies are like putting a car on castors. Great video again. The back bumper is actually an easy repair.

Credit for being so honest on the incident Rob. We've all made mistakes - glad there were no injuries. There are little trolleys available to move cars - don't know if you've seen them but they have 4 little castor wheels and fit around the car wheel. You can then pump them up to lift the car wheel and move it even if the brakes are on. I used to have a flat with reserved parking and the enforcement company used them to move illegally parked cars... .

Hi ROB, IF you haven’t already, invest in a set of wheel movers or a beam to use with a trolley jack. That would be so much easier for a job like that. Another idea would be to carry a sleeper type block in case of roll backs. Well done keep up the good work.

When you pull cars up, always leave the handbrake on - not all the way obviously but just enough to keep some tension, that way if anything breaks it will stop or atleast very slowly roll.

Don’t stress Rob, it’s majorly annoying but it happens. It’s better that the shakle let’s go (it looks a bit small) before the cable, that’ll cause proper damage. I move all sorts of cars for a living, often dragging them out of barns, garages, compounds etc. I keep four small sheets of plastic and a bottle of fairy to slide cars into position - go jacks take up too much space on the truck for the amount of use they’ll get. To ease the resistance of dragging a car a couple of Maccy D’s trays under the tyres really helps if you are stuck. Anyway, a quality video as always, when’s the big reveal?

I'm not gonna jump down and call names , Back in the day we had metal hub cabs flattened and with a lift and push would slide side ways and with the hand brake on would corner like a artic . In my 20-30 I could lift a Corsa Fiesta into a parking space just get the front end in and lift back in. I had An Imp for a year and would lift it on to my knees to change a wheel. Now-a-days the Recovery uses Skates made with shopping trolley wheels something Chris would knock up in an afternoon while you jet ski . Another great video mate you've saved that car from the scrapping pile I wonder if you had used another tow truck would have ate into it a bit more that's why you got your own little Beaver Tail Alloy Bedded with Manual Ramps which is slippery when wet but easy to clean .

Rob, you can’t beat yourself up for accidents, they happen. We all have the capacity to look at things in hindsight and wish we’d done x, y or z differently but, I’m agreeing with Chris here, it’s just one of those unfortunate things because a part failed. Ultimately, you’ve still earned money and you’ve saved a car from scrap, it’s a well spec’d cheap car for someone who needs it to start, stop and go safely and, at that money the cosmetics really don’t matter as much. Looking forward to seeing the mystery project

I'm insanely jealous of the cheap prices these cars are going for across the pond. Here in the States the used car market is so topsy-turvy that sometimes low mileage used cars are selling for more than what they'd cost new if only new examples were available. I know that the whole point of the Cheap Car Challenge is to keep the spend as low as possible, but would getting a "proper" key with the remote and fixing the bumper have paid for themselves? Good thing you weren't hurt when it snapped and the car rolled back Rob; that's the only thing that really matters at the end of the day!

We used to move big keelboats boats around yards that had fixed trolley wheels by putting 2 BFO trolley jacks under 2 end corners, push it with the tractor and steer the trolley jacks. You can do that with a car. As long as it’s a BFO Jack well located in the centre of front subframe, on smooth ground, you can pull & steer the car to line it up.

I don’t think anyone will give you stick, if anything I give you full credit for leaving it in and showing a mistake/accident in the first place and it can only be considered a mistake/accident if you haven’t learnt anything from it. The only thing you could’ve done differently is fit a wireless remote winch and sit in the car covering the brake(s) whilst it’s loaded up, but at least you didn’t run yourself over or get hit with the winch/cable when it snapped, there is a hell of a lot of tension in them.

I’m using a wireless remote I had to be outside watching as the steering lock was on and it was left hand down 👍

Just to clarify it does state they are accident damaged but doesn't give any details of the level of damage.

Love your channel and have done for about 18 months now, always look forward to new uploads and usually enjoy the content. The fact that you are so transparent in the way you work and also the way you cost everything out has always been a major draw to me. As is always the case with internet geniuses and keyboard warriors, you will occasionally get some stick, but I for one wouldn't want either you or Chris to change anything that you do. Keep up the good work and don't keep us in suspense for too long about the 'epic' project.

Considering the positioning etc of the Peugeot I think you did extremely well. I'd also say you were lucky not to suffer an injury when the clip failed. Totally agree with Chris, accidents happen. At the end of the day you've got a nice car there, so I reckon you've done really well. 👏👍

Maybe. Either way when a Ford Focus with the same engine all parts were cheaper in the Citroen garage as opposed to the Ford or Peugeot Garage.

Glad you did not hurt yourself in this episode. A little bit of damage is neither here nor there, you'd be much more difficult to repair! Would you have considered getting the key to move the car initially? It would have made life much easier.
