On the subject of the economist in this video who is autistic that reminds me that one of the biggest misconceptions about autism is that people who are autistic cannot understand the concept of money. This stereotype came about because in the movie Rain Man the Raymond Babbit character does not understand the concept of money. If you do a new video about misconceptions about autism maybe you can address this misconception in that video.

The belief that Mozart was autistic is mostly a result of him having perfect pitch. That ability is not unique to autism, though. It is also seen in certain other conditions like Williams Syndrome.

Thank you! You can also have perfect pitch and not have any mental health diagnosis or any illness. People also often forget that sensory processing disorder exists and that about 20% of the human population have it. It simply means one or more senses are either hyper or hyposensetive. It's not an official diagnosis in the DSM though. So the difference between neurotypical and neurodiverse isn't as clear as people often believe.

Leonardo da Vinci most likely had ADHD. There are a few in the historical category that don't fit. I think this comes from the way people judge and assess autism. If any person is relatable to the neurodivergent community that person gets analyzed and interpreted that way, because it is amazing to have popular rolemodels who made it far in life. So it often happens that some peoples headcanons are treated as facts, even though other diagnosis match much better like ADHD, SPD or OCD I'm german. Beethoven is not agreed to have had autism either here. Someone else mentioned already that Mozart had perfect pitch, but many people without autism have that as well. He also has no autism. And Hans Christian Andersen is not part of the "schwarze Pädagogik", "black pedagogy" literature. His fairytales are dark but were not meant to educate or scare children into submission. You might mistake this with the book "Struwwelpeter" which in infamous for scaring children into submission. Though that is german and Hans Christian Andersen was danish. I had both as a child "Struwwelpeter" and a collection of H.P.Andersens fairy tales. If you read both you will see the differences. His fairytales are more for older children though not toddlers. They are too dark like the girl with the matches. I liked the first half of the video and the message. I just think from the middle on there were quiet a few mistakes.

Most had Asperger's Syndrome. Although it's a part of Autism now, I see it differently. They get age appropriate language, they understand social cures. Those problems aren't as many as our kids'. But anyway, it's unfair to say they have fewer challenges. But, if I have the PoV of a mild autistic child, I'd not regret saying that.

Just because someone does not suffer or struggle in a visual way for other people does not mean they do not suffer internally or have a mental suffering. Just because a child or adult can mask, it does not mean it is less hard for them, it is just easier for others. The struggles are different and the suffering is different, but I don't see it as less or more, just different. How many very successful people die by suicide and overdose? Being successful and the length of their accomplishments is not a measurement for their struggles. Suicide rates are way higher in high functional autistic people because it isn’t easier for them just difficult in a different way. I am not saying this to confront you just trying to bring to you a broader perspective on the topic, these people are seen from the outside and is said "well, is not the hard for them" but people don't know, they don't live their experiences.

I'd add Johann Sebastian Bach as another possible candidate. Some of his music is very patterned and so complex that it would take a human a boatload of hyperfocus and obsession to create it. He ended up in prison once because he was at odds with his employer and the reasons were a) employers could do that back then, and b) Bach's own lack of emotional regulation. He signed a contract with a different employer without permission and it's like he existed in his own world and didn't think about anyone else, only he existed to himself. There may be SOME neurotypical composers out there but many have traits consistent with Autism. It takes hyperfocus to start AND finish an artistic project. Creating art is a way of processing all that is overwhelming, coming to terms with it, understanding it and regulating a person's human experience in a world that is going too fast.

“In a world that is going to fast” well put! This is precisely how the world is for me and it’s hard being around impatient people. Slow down so I can get back on, world. Thought processes are tricky, and is sometimes like hearing a delay or an echo chamber on bad days with brain fog. For some it could relate to the first day of a menstrual cycle when the mind feels slightly off, a day I think it’s best not to drive if I don’t need to because I don’t feel sharp enough to focus. Mine seems targeted around hearing. I have perfect pitch and can hear high frequency sounds other’s can’t but it also can be motion sickness and started with painful earaches as a toddler, later Epstein Barr that lasted 3 months and I believe lurked in my system a lifetime since I’m still autoimmune. This is not the typical disability but more one with abilities and yet we can still need help and support systems to help deal with challenges it can present with employment or filling forms, understanding red tape or procedures, filing taxes, applications and so forth. It’s embarrassing to hear the words ‘super salad’ instead of would you like soup or salad? This is an abstract thought process of Autism.

@@FreeSpokenOne I hear you! The only thing I have going for me is that I finish everything I start -- so perseverance -- it may take me longer, but I often catch details others miss, almost like Attorney Woo. I have those "aha" moments, too. I also hear interesting word combinations, like "Excuse me while I kiss this guy," instead of "Excuse me while I kiss the sky," that type of thing. I make my friends laugh endlessly by saying, "Did you actually say THIS," and then it's like an autocorrect moment, only out loud. I'm 50 now and only just aware that I have had undiagnosed Autism all my life. I was diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD a couple of years ago but now know we should have gone the full gamut and had me tested for both. I've pretty much learned to live with it by now. Me and my high-functioning autism are buddies. Life is full of red tape, metaphorically, for people like us. So you just gotta get creative with the colour red.

From what I have read Bobby Fischer was either autistic or schizophrenic (or perhaps both). On one hand he had perfect pitch and was able to repeat anything that he heard in any language after only hearing it once. Savantisms like this usually indicate autism. On the other hand he also believed in too many conspiracy theories to list here. From what I have read he believed almost all conspiracy theories. This points to him being schizophrenic. The two conditions are not mutually exclusive but it is very rare to see them together (Five percent is the highest figure I have seen for such an overlap. The real number could be lower).

Lewis Carroll being on this list shows the people with Asperger's/autism can have imaginations just like I did and do imaginative play. They just do a differently. There can be entire worlds of imagination inside someone, it's just that they have trouble communicating it. And even now we are still learning new things about autism, I hope that science continues fast and we get more answers that are more concrete.

Susan Boyle is learning disabled from anoxia at birth. Most of the people you have cited were diagnosed as adults when being autistic became a "thing." I think these kinds of people lessen the seriousness of autism, making it seem trendy, just another label to make them interesting. I was married for 18 years to man with ASD. It was hell. There's nothing fun or trendy about autism. It is a serious disorder that should not be taken on as a persona. Claiming every famous person is autistic, with no evidence to back it up, does not help anyone. I don't mean to be a downer, but I believe in keeping it real, and I do not think this video is realistic.
