Hello all and thanks for coming back :)
Hope you're all good! This was a great ride, but did go wrong in too many ways. Some out of my control and yeah, some in my control... I love riding to London and this was a great new route, so now I get to ride it again and actually finish it!
Have a good week, andy

OMG you cycled past my parents village, I recognized the vintage Bentley garage. I live in Canada in Montreal and I cycle in that area when I visit my parents (the old A303 road) Liphook area has some punchy hills. I was watching this and thought I have cycled there. Big fan of the Liphook Links Pub which you must have cycled passed.

Still a great effort, at this time of year with the rail network you have in the south I'd be planning a route that shadowed the train route for emergency bail outs! My rides here in the Highlands are like mini bikepacking trips now, every spare and clothing permutation I can carry as there's no bail outs up the glens and in the hills. Weather has been lovely and set to continue though! I'm currently off the drop bars, nasty crick in the neck that won't go away and I need to re-evaluate the bike fit so over the winter (Zwift aside) I'll be on the MTB..... An adjustable stem arrived today, put it on the gravel bike, jeez it's as ugly as hell but need to raise the bars somehow, pitfalls of needing a bike with an XS reach and a L stack and having way too long legs and an inflexible short torso.... (TraceVelo did a review of Ali Express 40mm suspension forks, could be the answer with an uncut steerer and a bag of spacers, get the normal stem raised up and back without looking too damn hideous lol)

Three weeks I've got tubeless set up with new 28 pirelli winter tyres works well no punctures at 55 PSI. And ps if you going to travel by train buy a Railcard it save you money on all rail tickets 😊

mate what a ride! - that ave speed including all those hills is pretty decent but yep, you maybe would have not cut it so fine to the station on your all out road bike! Still a strong ride, well done - I'm planning an easier route Pompey to LDN for next year - the easier route over the downs, Guilford then via Windsor and off road as much as I can! it is good to get out in the autumn for a big ride though, nice vid, cheers

Couple of equipment questions. Where were your aero bars? Your helmet is an ABUS? If so, which model and how do you rate it? Thanks.
@theroadprovides
@theroadprovides 14 күн бұрын
Hey, yeah I take them off over winter as my rides are shorter, less than 100 miles mostly. The helmet is an Abus game changer, I have two of them, great helmets if you like the way they look

At least we don’t have to hide that coffee stop from you other half😂. I don’t know about speed, did that 14 mph include your stoppage with the flat and navigational delays? If your not already running a waxed chain their is a few watts in that and if your not using like the silica tire pressure calculator, other than trying to be in the aero bars more the only other thing I can think of would be around changing your position and that’s probably not gonna be of much help as you need to stay very comfy for these ultra distance events
@theroadprovides
@theroadprovides 12 күн бұрын
Maybe the filming didn’t help, I’m interested to try a waxed chain actually

That was great, Andy! It's not a real adventure unless something goes wrong, something you have overcome it to reach your goal. I appreciated every single passing shot - I know how much extra time and effort they take, but really added to video.

@theroadprovides 14 күн бұрын
Thanks for mentioning that mate, they are more work but I'm enjoying spending a bit more time making vids look better nowadays :)
@huntos83
@huntos83 14 күн бұрын
How much extra time do you think all the filming adds to a ride like this? Must add up quite a bit with stopping to set up a stationary camera, ride by and then go back and collect, or just stopping to do pieces to camera. Even the pieces filmed on the bike probably add a bit of time fiddling around getting the camera out and sitting up filming, could easily knock your average speed a bit.
@theroadprovides
@theroadprovides 14 күн бұрын
Yeah that’s true actually, can definitively attribute some of the delay to that, not too much I think as I pause my Garmin in some cases 😬

I was going to say the same thing,that way you’re not rushing for the train or potentially missing it,also by doing in reverse you can jump straight into the shower after your ride instead of being a sweaty mess on the train for an hour or so.

"all for a 14mph average speed"........think about what you've just said. You rode lanes and hills in the south of England - hardly a race course. I'd say that's pretty decent.
@theroadprovides
@theroadprovides 14 күн бұрын
Thanks make its just much slower than past performance, the gripe was more about how long the rides sometimes take than having a high speed, I just get through them more slowly

I laughed when you went the wrong way. It reminded me when I got into cycling. I'd regularly get confused when I'd stop to go into a shop and sometimes ride the wrong way after. I solved it by always parking my bike facing the way I needed to go

Sorry Andy but 5000ft of climbing over that distance isn’t really a whole lot of climbing in my eyes. The last few century rides I’ve done have been over 6000ft and averaging out at 18.1. Sorry this sounds negative but I just can’t understand how your average is so low with someone that has so much experience even my worst experiences on a bike my average has never been below 16
